They constantly say things as if they're stating obvious facts. Even though, more often than not, they're unverifiable articles of political-economic faith, and when they are falsifiable they're usually unproven, if not directly contradicted by available evidence. How am I supposed to add alt text to uploaded audio files straight away? The new desktop design now shrinks them to an unclickable thumbnail in the editor. Neither the '...' menu nor the alt text button is visible. Posting them as they are and then adding the alt text later doesn't work either (apart from using another app, client or web interface). It’s funny to hear developers whine about AI-related job loss. Software typically exists to do things humans would have done manually (and been paid to do). Anyone who’s been a professional engineer long enough has effectively eliminated thousands of jobs. I don’t see a future with fewer engineers than today, but the barriers to entry and the optimal skill sets are changing. That will push some folks out, but it’ll open the door to many who just never groked code.
Fellow artists, what was your experience like getting access to VGen and using it to host commissions? It’s been hard to get a creator account started with the code system so far. But I’ve heard it’s very nice to use once you have access. #vgen #digitalart #comission

Apparently a let down for most watchers but I liked it. The idea of monsters coming from somewhere and grooming further monsters, although more often they groom victims. Let's not forgot Laurie Strode was a high schooler when Myers first attacked her.. Jeremy's story was very worth following. It made Michael's appearances all the more meaningful. I expressed my thoughts about Myer's varying power scaling throughout the movies and contradictory canons being a method of myth retelling and fracturing over time. Another possibility is training/taking on apprentices as well. I found Halloween Kills to be a bit over the top.

I still feel iffy about artists who fully gated themselves behind patreon subs. Like, don't get me wrong: it's great that they have found huge success in there, but really disheartening when their public gallery hasn't been touched in almost a decade and just links to patreon.
The XOR and AND gates are making a LITTLE more sense, because now you've got a clearer "IF we passed in any of the other (valid) outputs then there's correct answers at the end, and we're just showing one possible route through" (give or take the fact that one input bit should presumably always be zero because it's your result bit in the output and passing in anything else screws up the answer!) I think that most of the puzzles are just lacking some clarifying context. You almost universally get all-0s as input so you're inherently skipping most of the paths. And without context then you don't know what it all means and why it's doing anything other than moving a colourful ball across the screen!

I wrote a whole blog (several, in fact) about the need to break the ransomware economy cycle and still believe it’s the most urgent and important thing governments can do to protect civil society. Having orgs pay ransoms, including via sham cybersecurity vendors, is directly harming society. Maybe once the AI bubble pops, we can get back to having serious conversations about the harm the status quo has caused.

I think we need to clear up something about the much vaunted conservative plans for #Britaniashield missile defense. The key thing is the Israelis want the UK to be trapped into an Israel dependant missile defense system, and conservative politicians in the UK want to ingratiate themselves with the Israelis.

My major problem with AI is not what it can and cannot do well. It's the vast resources required to essentially pattern match. I'll never say that sophisticated algorithms can't be very useful, but I might suggest that AI companies break them apart into distinct functions or tiers. And to be transparent about them. Chatbots don't need to speak and identify like they are human, for example. The quest to create a monolithic mind is doomed to fail (because it will be error prone) and is a tremendous waste of resources.

When the choice is between living with severe pain that could be reduced if the system didn't place access to necessary care out of reach or assisted suicide, the system has long ago taken away autonomy. Because autonomy requires the option to access the care that may reduce the pain.
