  1. an entire goddamn chicken is $5 at Costco, and i genuinely don't think i could eat two dollars of rice unless we're talking about some *absurdly* expensive rice $2 of plain old white rice would have to be... i don't know how many batches in my rice cooker

  3. Its going crazy right now on the Right after hearing this morning that Trump has no intention of bringing charges against his past enemies, Obama Clinton and Biden. The fact that we elected Obama is why this is happening. It is why we got the Tea Party. It is why we are suffering this push back from the Alt-R. Their entire, and I do mean entire grievance stems from the fact that Obama is Black. No matter what has escalated from that point forward only has caused them to be more and more angry. To the point now, that they thought it would be a grand idea to join the Trump cult even though every last one of them see Trump's flaws just as we all do. They arent blind, they are only blinded.

    Show more of this post

Their grievances have NOT been met and they are staring to see and understand their grievances have not been met for the last decade. Sure the border is closed, (it is not, Trumps reporting is of course exaggerated) but they are seeing that one thing as the ONLY thing. Trump announcing today that he wasnt going to prosecute OBAMA? Wait........and CLINTON??? These TWO are the ENTIRE REASON THEY EXIST. Trump, out loud, in public, totally betrayed MAGA today and its all they are talking about. He keeps saying 2020 was stolen from him and that he has the EVIDENCE to prove it but is now simply going to let them all go? MAGA: "So, he has all this evidence of them stealing 2020 election, plus all these other high treasonous crimes...and he is just going to forgive and forget? To me, this means they didn't do all this stuff he has been claiming, or he has been in on it and is a part of their plan." "Is he really this Stupid or is this Bullshit talk? All roads of Corruption and Witch Hunts against him lead back to Hussein Obummer, Killary and sleepy Joe So Nobody will get held accountable in this Totally Corrupt Govt because they ALL protect each other's asses" Pages and pages of posts like these and very few taking Trump's announcement well.

  4. As relevant as ever, and as terrifying as ever. And even more possible today than it was in 1984. Special Bulletin - 1984 (Emmy-winning) It is worth the full 100 minutes of viewing. It builds slowly to a terrifying climax. (I find it rather ironic that the view from the newsroom includes a clear view of the now gone World Trade Center towers.) youtube.com/watch?v=Wn7WC3zsEZk

  5. The greedy, twisted logic of the World Economic Forum "Increasing global investment in clean energy, artificial intelligence (AI), industrial decarbonization and climate resilience means countries are increasingly competing for electricity, water, land and critical minerals. These scarce resources are the bedrocks of the green transition, industrialization and AI expansion." weforum.org/stories/climate-ac… Green is the new code word for industrial

  7. Rays winning a series -- at Yankee Stadium, no less -- in *those* jerseys is like Bucs winning a Super Bowl in the creamsicles, or if Sixers decided to break out the old shooting stars jerseys deep in the playoffs. You're talking about unis historically associated with failure.

So LG is apparently partnering (or something) with Apple for HomeKit devices. After their TVs were fingered for snooping it would be hard to trust them. Note: LG denies the snooping but the evidence is strong enough to concern me and since there are lots of other chioces of vendors I see no reason to try.

OK, so if they don't renew Ted Lasso again, that was a great epilogue to the series. I love any excuse to see Hannah Waddingham though, so I won't be mad if it comes back

  13. Y'know what's scary? I sometimes check discussions forums for projects I contribute to in one way or another; and I've noticed that more and more people are starting to *talk like an LLM*, using the same sycophantic phrasing as them. I think LLM usage might actually cause brain damage at this point

Imagine calling Screamer a Cyberpunk 2077 ripoff because of the art style I don't get why that's even a comparison worth making, it's not like the Cyberpunk series is the only one allowed to make stories of the cyberpunk genre

  15. Pet peeve of mine: when tech people who should know better name a thing an "operating system" when it is, in fact, not an operating system. "This is our new operating system for [insert thing here]." -> turns out to actually be an electron app running on iOS or whatever.

There were 60,000 (sixty thousand!) paper submissions to #ICLR2027 (15th International Conference on Learning Representations). This is crazy. Some are arguing for using AI for reviewing, which is completely insane. Maybe, instead, we should organize conferences by only inviting speakers. This will furthermore provide opportunities for better representation of women, researchers from low-income countries, etc. Those 60,000 papers can all go online to feed the slop machines into model collapse.

Interesting point I heard in an interview with a voice actor. He mentioned his work is not that hard in the moment because he has 25 years of experience and knows exactly what the writers want from him. He navigates it through his deep understanding of shows, writers and audiences. I feel that maps out beautifully to game translation. People always focus on characters and puns and funny accents. Which are important but fall inside a larger meta level of knowing what the real intention behind those words. Which -say- tells you how a large character in a narrative game has a lot of leeway for characterization, while a quip from an NPC in a tutorial should stay light and UI should be as unobtrusive as possible. I'm here to serve the game.

  22. Honestly it’s just nice to hear someone else say this? I’ve been on this one for years - that this idea that burning a book is an intrinsically evil act is simultaneously historically illiterate and a form of commodity fetishism. It’s crazy-making. “A book” has zero value, it’s what it represents!

After they take a beating in the midterms, I expect the GOP will cooperate in removing Trump from office in an attempt to avoid the same in 2028, either via the 25th Amendment or impeachment and conviction. Trump will become the scapegoat, and they'll try to make him the cause of ALL the problems. Then we'll have a year or two of Vance to deal with while the GOP tries to rehab their image with voters. Will it work? #25thAmendment #ImpeachConvictRemove

@eofftv.bsky.social I was taking a look at another site's list of Hammer Horrors & they include Crescendo which apparently had a UK release in 1970 but a US release in '72. It doesn't appear to be on your Hammertime list. I haven't seen it, is this another not quite horror like Stranglers of Bombay?

  25. This movie is a level of campy fun not found anymore today. And Raúl Juliá was one of the reasons. Yes, it's far from a good movie. But it's fun. This man went too soon, but the legacy in the few things he made, so admirable.

  27. There's a new kind of disappointment when someone you like or admire starts heavily using AI. I lose interest in them so fast it's crazy. "Their" craft feels like it's not theirs anymore and so I don't have any reason to be interested in what they do.
