  1. We know the rare 20th Century Fox Archives logo? The one was a still graphic (drawn) render. What if it was an on-screen logo by Flip Your Lid, then Blue-Sky Studios, and later Picturemill in 20th Century Fox Archives to either 20th Century Studios Archives or 20th Century Archives? What would YOU pick? Crafted on ChatGPT & Gemini.

and let us not forget, the equally Debordian point - the fashion for religion and race, is the image commodity taken to its sick conclusion. Deleuze and Guattari point out that Atheisim is philosophers serenity and achievment. You can imagine what the fashion is... consider the philosophers who have faded and why over the past 3 or 4 decadads

would free credits change your stack? i'd still want the paid bill to make sense. anthropic's new startup offer includes $1,000 in api credits for approved companies. that's room to test a small product, though i'd price the same workload without the subsidy before getting attached. would you experiment or fund what already works? The thing is: the iPhone is an *amazing* camera. Having spent many, many hours with the Nikon ZR, it's even more apparent to me how incredible it is to be able to whip out this thing and grab this.

  5. May I ask: have any of you played with the deepseek harness? I’ve heard that it’s pretty good, I tried it one time and it seemed to be pretty accessible although I should probably try it again. What was cool was when I pressed the tab key it would give me a lot of verbose information about what I was highlighted on which I personally liked. Like it even told me how many tokens a turn used and stuff like what the heck?

Muting the national broadcast and having music play while I watch the games has made a huge difference. The "play calling artist" is gone. Now they only call out highlights and fill the gaps with stories and op eds.

I really appreciate that the Nobel folks do the science communication thing of releasing different explanations of the winners' work for people with different pre-existing levels of understanding nobelprize.org/all-nobel-prize… both "They solved chemistry’s asymmetric mystery" and "Non-linear effects and auto catalysis in asymmetric organic catalysis"

People who feel they actually save time by coding with AI: what are you actually making? Every time I'm convinced to dip my toe in this environment, it can't solve any problems of a mildly esoteric nature - that is, anything I might need help with.

  9. #WritersCoffeeClub Oct 7 Does your editing process tend towards addition or reduction? Both. The first rounds are always addition as my early drafts are incomplete, like scaffolding or a line drawing. I add details which bring the story to life. Later go throughs are about trimming excess words or duplications, revising to make things clearer, etc

by Paul Lehr couldn't find a title. I think this has a spooky feel? Maybe it has the same sort of aesthetic as a sort of 60s - 70s science fiction that scared me when I was a kid. It's dark and there are evil-looking implements being used and idk I don't get a definite good guy sense from this character - that could be the cape and helmet of an evil alien villain. Weird energies flying around that don't seem normal, and maybe a vision of hell behind them. I'm spooked! 🤣 #art #scifiArt #evilVillain #probe #helmet #hellscape #space #spooky

I liked the first episode of the new Carrie. Summer Howell is great as Carrie and Samantha Sloyan has a gift for playing villains who are genuinely terrifying without ever being over the top.

I don't think "Happy Science" would hold my attention long if it weren't for the weird euhemerization of Hermes and Aphrodite, who get scaled down into a human couple who have a child, Aeros or Eros. Geddit? Except that in Hellenic sources, Hermes and Aphrodite did have a child named Hermaphroditus (geddit?) who famously got fused with a horny nymph named Salmacis to become a single non-binary being.

    Show more of this post

I'm at pains to point that out because surely the Happy Science cult people who came up with their cosmology and adapted it to the big screen (kinda) were making a conscious choice: they must have known the existing lore about Hermaphroditus and deliberately rewritten it, putting Eros in there--Eros, who was Ares's son by Aphrodite (when he isn't depicted as a primordial god.) It's like multiple symbolic snubs at once and the overall effect is a tremendous sense of anticlimax. The euhemerized Happy Science versions of the gods seem quite small indeed, flimsy in the way of characters from inept fiction, and both Aphrodite and Eros have been robbed of the better part of their power. The Hellenic lore suggests the overwhelming power that these deities tap into but that's just the sort of thing that isn't welcome in a right-wing cult that's telling all its victims to smile more. There's another curious detail: Happy Science also has a tale about Earth being populated forcibly by beings taken from another place (Venus, supposedly) and then blown up with volcanoes. I suppose this could simply be copying from Scientology but it's a funny coincidence.

  18. Saw an article today where someone earnestly made the case that "engineers" don't need to be able to understand the code anymore, because we can just ask the LLM to describe what it does in plain language. You realise these things are still fallible right? What if its explanation is total BS? What's your fallback when the code is broken and your LLM is lying to you? It really feels like full-on psychosis. I suspect they just don't want to be developers anymore but don't want to admit it

I have a question that probably relates either to #activitipub or more specifically #mastodon (or even more specifically @SocialCoop 's setting?) When an image from a remote server in my timeline does not fetch, I routinely hit *favorite* (we should all hit favorite 🌟 more routinely, by the way), which, until recently, fetched the image. This seems not to be the case anymore. I am curious to understand why it worked like that in the first place, and why it does not work that way anymore.

  26. I do wish developers would scrap roguelike game design. Take Star Wars Galactic Racer; regardless of how skillful you play, you are 100% guaranteed to fail the ~90 minute championship playtime for numerous attempts, until you a) unlock enough good buffs to use on future runs, and b) the RNG actually lets you use them. It's a lazy, artificial way to get more playtime from a game whilst ignoring difficulty balancing. It doesn't encourage you to get better and instead disrespects your time.

  28. Is there a standard "I made this with AI" content warning that we can encourage people to use, so I can filter them out and save the disappointment of finding out halfway through reading about a project? I guess if others choose that as a method, that's up to them, but personally I have very little interest in reading about it from that point onwards. The enthusiasm just drops away sharply for me once that comes out. It seems more and more common in #RetroComputing atm unfortunately.

I have seen complaints about there not being enough grad school AUs and i am going to hold your hand when i tell you many people don’t even get a bachelor’s degree. i think the universality of high school is what makes those AUs so popular.

  30. It's interesting to be cheering good news for Bambu, who have been actively assertive that rules don't apply to them where open source licenses are concerned, unilaterally take away functionality from customers as the price of security updates, and aggressively court influencers whole being reported to actively muzzle them with anti-disparagement or similar clauses. (The report that they have done this for many influencers makes me suspicious of every popular influencer who claims that they themselves have not been so constrained. 🤨) The enemy of my enemy is not always actually my friend, but I can still be glad to see these patent grabs at least somewhat extinguished.

Content warningWon’t someone discuss the Iliad with me?!

Ok is anyone on here into the #classics or #hellenism? Cause what is the deal with Achilles? Like, he seems to operate in a totally different social context from everyone else. 1. He’s the only man who expresses any sense of like “why would I fight in this war? My life has value” 2. When he does fight he’s fucking bonkers 3. Then he does these games where he resolves all these conflicts peacefully, makes sure everyone feels valued, which doesn’t seem like a thing anyone else sees as worth doing Or am I misreading? Totally possible. But he seems like an enigmatic figure to me, not just an angry pouting rage-aholic. Also if there are good scholarly discussions of him as a character I would love a source or two! #literature #ancientGreece
