  1. I'm not seeing anything about Lochiel/land defenders who stopped border wall construction for over two months and are still there after arrests, brutalization, and the devastating murder of Grandmother Cottonwood. I'll try to post resources here. This gorgeous piece is by Maria Renee Johnson.

Original art by Maria Renee Johnson, black and white featuring a detailed cottonwood tree leaf, beetle, bird and jaguar from the reparian refuge where land defenders camped to protect the last remaining cottonwood for over two months. Overlayed are the words: Every wall will someday fall. Tree Spirits stand tall.View full-size image

  2. My month of ‘Tober Art Prompt List No Pressure Roulette continues with an entry from Trektober, because the prompt was Meet The Family and I had to do it. Also, obviously I know Garak is like five ten. It’s his cultivated air of vaguely threatening and offputting energy that makes him seem so imposing. #art #ds9 #garashir #trektober

Day 7 of #Arttrober is Slan from the manga Berserk. I first encountered Berserk when a friend got a DVD of the original anime series, and *wow* was it dark. And then at the end, (almost) everyone died horribly. Much later I read what was then available of the Berserk manga, and actually got to see what happened after the Eclipse. Stlll very dark, very adult, but engaging if you can get past all that. #Drawtober #Inktober #Arttrober2026 #MastoArt #FediArt #Manga #Anime #Berserk #Slan

poketobers 5 & 6! "season" and "sword" gastlys (and their line) are very halloweeny, but SWORD isnt really something found in poison types... i reasoned beedril's mighty pointy arms and roserade's knight-like schtick might be sword enough to pass muster?

  7. #drawtober / #sonatober #6 - Moebius the Thylacine I wanted to push my ability to paint forms like I did yesterday, giving it a geometric twist to be in the style of the recent Marathon game adverts. Mostly happy with it, though I'm still one behind with how long it took me to render 5 total heads all at different angles.

A friend of mine told me he wanted to be Superman (I will not share in what context) so I thought I’d try to draw him like that. The foreshortening got away from me a bit. And I kind of gave up on the hands after 15 redraws. But I like the vibe. #inktober #inktober2026

Decided it has been entirely too long since I made something based on a random piece of art from the Rogue Trader rulebook. So I made a little epic scale tank thing inspired by that one bit of art of a tank with a weird scorpion tail turret (plus a slightly more normal looking variant).

My favourite paintings, no.66 Anne Redpath, Still Life with Teapot on Round Table (1945) Following yesterday's post here's a very different take on the still life from Anne Redpath, whose flatness of composition is clearly influenced by Matisse & fauvist colours reflect her association wth the Scottish Colourists. Once again, I like this because it can be read as both subject & abstract pattern. As so often still lives are a celebration of the everyday. #art #TodaysPainting #Scotland

Not all my #pottery pieces have direct inspiration in nature, but this Japanese tea cup does (available on Etsy): morinopottery.etsy.com/listing… It's a rugged take on a mountain brook I saw a few autumns ago on a hike. I carved a handful of lines and used wax resist (that lets the stoneware body show) to make the glazes break and pool in flowy blues and golds. I also used paddling (i.e., I thwacked it 😜) to give the wheel-thrown piece an organic, rock-like shape. #hiking #ceramics #ArtForSale

These look like the jankiest things I've ever stitched together. I'm still proud of them anyway because it was a first run at a completely new design, and I get to post that I created this. Because they're also not done yet, despite the two hours' work I put in on them tonight... soon, more pics!

The Ghost, Josef Mandl, 1898 idk it looks like the grave has been disturbed, the knocked-over cross, the shovel, the planks. Also something glowing at the base of the next headstone over. This ghost seems spooky but not the kind that is going to eat your soul? Maybe the danger here is getting bummed out on an otherwise nice trip to the cemetery. We came to put flowers on a grave and enjoy the cultivated landscaping but now we have to solve the case of the crying ghost! ruh-roh. Leonardo da Vinci, da Vinci-chan as I like to think of her (cf. the #FGO gacha game which we play like once a week for five minutes, making no progress) was fond of drawingb in a method popular with many other practitioners during the Italian Renaissance: silverpoint. A rod of silver metal is brought to a point and, when applied to paper specially coated to give it a very fine-textured abrasive surface, this silver stylus leaves a fine silvery mark, a reasonably dark line too because finely divided metals tend to look dark.

(Remember The Treasure of the Sierra Madre? The alluvial gold, once panned out, looks very much like ordinary dirt--except it's much denser, revealing its golden nature.) Other soft metals have been used in a similar fashion. The method seems worth giving an amateur try, perhaps with the hope of finding a clever trick for coating the surface in a facile way. But I also find myself considering the possibility of a reactive coating. What if you used a copper stylus, for example, on a paper that had been treated with a mild oxidant? Would it be possible to get a copper line that rapidly turned red or black or green because it got turned to Cu2O or CuO or a Cu(II) basic salt (cf. verdigris) swiftly with a little chemical assistance? How about a bismuth metal pen on a paper treated with an iodide? Could one perhaps get red BiI3 (or a tetraiodobismuthite) or black BiOI?

I might like giving my OCs scars a bit too much. Wilfrid has whatever is going on with his nose. Monty has his back scars and Caspian has burn scars and is missing some fingertips. As well as other assorted lasting injuries, Zendaya’s eyepatch, etc etc

Made myself a new notebook using a whole sketch pad, including the back board for the cover. Used a Coptic stitch for the first time, attaching the cover directly to the book block. (It then goes in a reusable case, so aesthetics don't matter) I liked the process, Coptic binding is very cool, but getting the right tension on the thread is, as always, tricky. Still don't feel like I've really got the hang of it 😂 #bookbinding
