I rarely buy from Amazon - it's a place of last resort. This list appears to have been populated because I bought a naked portafilter and a can of La Tourangelle Pistachio Oil (I couldn't find either locally). Amazon doesn't know much more about me, and I plan to keep it that way. Duck Duck Go FTW.

Screenshot of my Amazon "About You" profile. It reads as follows - Product Preferences: Prioritizes commercial-grade equipment for home use. Interests & Hobbies: Likely makes espresso and specialty coffee. Departments: Coffee equipment. Product Preferences: Likely favors La Tourangelle brand for specialty oils. Departments: Specialty cooking oils.View full-size image

Acorn is an indie image editor by Flying Meat. It replaces Pixelmator for me, which I bought long ago, pre-Acorn, and rode until it stopped working. (Just now.) Flying Meat made VoodooPad back in the day, a kind of personal-wiki app that was my core digital notebook from around 2004 through 2021, long after its sunset. (I use piles of Markdown files + Nota now.) Been aware of the studio’s next big project for years, and I’m happy for the excuse to finally throw a little more money at em.

A little lull in my day job while waiting for corporate approvals. I wrote two small command line apps in Rust for my own use. First one loads all local git branches and let's me select one to check out, also has text filtering. Second one shows all git branches with a multi select. I can delete local branches easily en masse. Stale branches are marked as such. I learned that programs prefixed with `git-` can be run through git like an alias without configuring anything special. #rustlang #programming

I bought an OPNsense router back in 2023 when I had my own internet, and it was easy to setup because my ISP modem at the time (AT&T) didn't have restrictive or abstracted settings for configuring a secondary router in passthrough mode. When I moved back in with my parents, my ISP made it extremely difficult to use anything but their own equipment, so I just let the OPNsense router sit unused in a cabinet.

I recently cancelled my Comcast Xfinity internet service and am now using my parents', which is in the same house but just on their own network. I've been thinking about ways to keep my network devices logically separated from my parents' and other family members' devices, and I stumbled upon an article on how to do that with my OPNsense router without putting my parents' modem/router in bridge mode. It's always a win when I can use technology I paid good money for but for whatever reason haven't been using. homenetworkguy.com/how-to/use-…

I pretty much only buy things on amazon I can't get locally so amazon is now convinced I am obsessed with "specialty aquarium equipment" and "home filtration" - I'm surprised they didn't decide "buying filters for my car / aquarium / HVAC / air purifier / humidifier / hot tub" is my hobby.

Installed a J2ME game to my feature phone which requires connecting to an ad server to display ads before the game will load. Given that the ad server as well as the payment server to turn it into an ad-free version are dead (and 2G has disappeared for these phones here even if the servers were up), this would make the game unplayable. Thankfully there is a numeric code you can retrieve which you are supposed to enter on the computer while purchasing, which can be used to generate a key that can be input manually without any Internet connectivity. So I just cracked an 18 year old Java phone game... And I might have also discovered the key algorithm that is used in all games with MobileRated's ad system - I don't have any other games using it to compare with.

  • I checked the Amazon "About You" thing and it turns out I barely shop through Amazon and they don't have enough data for their chatbot to make guesses about me, which in retrospect yeah actually, I guess I wouldn't.

So far there's only a few traces of RenPy Loader in my PC, for now I had to unplug my modem, boot to safe mode and do a full scan to see if there's more. I still need to stay cautious until I have enough time to backup my data and reinstall Windows..

  • I'm not big on Prime Days deals, but I’ve had my eye on this Anker Thunderbolt dock to tidy up my desk for a while, and I just think it looks nice. $310 on Amazon today, so I snagged it. anker.com/products/a83b5-anker…
