How it works

  1. @pixel.protogen.nexus

pretty much been reducing my reliance on meta while also trying to keep the apps too basically switching to various apps that are similar to meta apps (Pixelfed, Signal, never used Threads, Instants nor Edits)

I didn't have "replace charging connector on your laptop" on my todo list today, but here we are. It's not even #MaintenanceMonday! Not the prettiest fix, but was using the only socket I had to hand, and it'll do until I can source one the right size. Laptop is back charging nicely.

  3. Internet go burrrrr. On stock ISP equipment none the less. LOCAL ISP really has upped their game little by little. Native DynDNS on the stock modem, IPV6 support, proper radio control and the ability to test for noise around itself, the ability to have a guest network setup, and site blocking/time blocking. Anyways, my partner has given me a 3 hour window that started 47 minutes ago. With DNS fixed on the stock modem, lets go rip that shit out, bridge directly from the ONT and install a proper Sophos Firewall.

New life rule, back to an old philosophy: If I'm going to be the person that solves all of the issues, technical and billing, on an account, then I have to be ALL of the contact info. No waiting for someone to forward emails, texts, etc at 11pm at night. Or... it's not my problem, is it? Making a new account for a project was easier. Also: AWS's MFA loop sucketh. #credentials #aws_credentials #aws

  5. Met a YouTuber offline today. When they asked if I saw their channel, I gave a benevolent grin and asked, I would love to check it out! How can I find you via PeerTube or podcast? They are exclusively on YouTube and have no plans to move to a podcast or Peertube but Even though I have a YouTube account, and use the YouTube account frequently, It always gives me some joy to remind everyone that not everyone uses walled gardens. #PeerTube #YouTube

  6. I have a smart plug that doesn't work because cloud service ended and it no longer receives updates. I also have a 486 DX running Windows 98 SE and the really bizarre thing is how I can still play all the games on it I could 25+ years ago.

i’m at the point now where i’m just using wikimedia commons as my main image search engine does anyone remember when you could just find images of things that actually exist? that was a pretty cool time

I helped my mum with applying for a bonus for her new electric car. You could only do so online and it was … not easy. The most aggravating “feature” was getting logged out (*without* saving what we had already typed in) because we took some time to figure out a correct answer. After that, I regularly checked and unchecked one of the checkboxes further down and that prevented the auto-logout. 😬

Ran into that recently: github.com/r-lib/devtools/issu… And this morning I had to help someone that install package on some OneDrive, using wininet and Using Rstudio without using 50% of the panels (I think I make them discovered they could make them smaller so they could have more screen space). I am not sure we progressed neither sure we did the right think along plenty of way... #Rstats

  12. Ok, it's been 15-something years I haven't touched SolidWorks but just to make an assembly, I could be able to use FreeCAD just by instinct, right? *20 minutes later* Well, I don't know how to "properly" move objects other than "transforming" them, I can't find a grid to align stuff and it crashed when duplicating pieces. Ok.

Reading up on how to manually create an RSS feed which will get updated every time I add pages to the Polar Bear Comix site. Looks pretty straightforward. Which is what people always say right before they find themselves neck deep in xml.

Speaking of faffing about with other tools, I still want to create a swift-native tool that on-the-fly generates slippy map tiles (yes, that’s the name of the tech. You can blame google in the mid 2000s for this) from the FAA sectional data. It’ll allow me to save on storage for this little video generator, I won’t have to spend so long generating tiles that I’ll never use, and I can reuse the tech for that EFB app I still want to make. I didn’t do that for this because one thing at a time.

Just because it’s possible: the next video will be done using Kdenlive on Linux Mint using the 2013 iMac. All in all, I didn’t need to buy the M1 Mac at all. 😄 Well, apart from the encoding being MUCH slower on the older iMac. #kdenlive #linuxmint #imac

  18. update on that laptop... archstrap+fix worked, but... now it's running freeBSD and serving as a CUPS proxy for a printer that only works when connected to over its internal wi-fi AP due to a phone-home feature that resets it every few seconds if networked over wire or wifi client. 🥺

Today's tech-geek achievement - installing LineageOS on my Pixel 6a, getting termux working on it, getting sshd working on it, figuring out how to get the key file from the phone to my Mac (using OpenMTP) and then connecting to my phone like it was a server through SSH. Sweet! Next up, installing Apache on it so I can use it as a web server. Because... I can!

  20. @mweston@ieji.de

Earlier today I posted on #Facebook that I would be away for at least a month as a trial. I uninstalled the app (Messenger too) from my phone and tablet. I've closed my #Instagram, #WhatsApp, and #Threads accounts months ago, and I look forward to a possible #Meta free life. Google and Amazon are both going to take more time, unfortunately. Probably a lot.
