i think it's less 'parents being authoritarian' and more that much of the world view children as inherently subhuman property that expected to develop amnesia about their treatment once aging into an arbitrary age of majority

I love the chequered floor tiles at Holborn London Underground station. Chequered tiles are surprisingly quite unusual in tube stations, the only other station I can think of that has them is Houslow central but there must be more?
im sad that coptic doesnt have a native word for cannabis (it has the greek loan ⲉⲣⲃⲓⲥⲓ for the hemp plant) even though scholars are fairly certain that late egyptian šmšmt (spelled in hieroglyphs in the image below) probably referred to hemp as used both for rope and for consumption
I’m grateful that ethnic studies have become mandatory classes for transfers to state colleges in california. It’s been good to see things like what justice means, the mass incarceration endemic, and systemic oppression sink in for people who haven’t thought about it before and how it affects them.

Btw apparently some people need to hear this but Darwin didn't propose "Darwinism". His theory of evolution was a descriptive scientific theory about the origins of species. Some eugenicist chuds turned "social Darwinism" into an ideology later on. So, I don't think it's fair to hate on Darwin.

Where something approaching drudgery or the need of fulfilling externally imposed tasks exists, the demand for play persists, but tends to be perverted. The ordinary course of action fails to give adequate stimulus to emotion and imagination. So in leisure time, there is an imperious demand for their stimulation by any kind of means; gambling, drink, etc., may be resorted to. Or, in less extreme cases, there is recourse to idle amusement; to anything which passes time with immediate agreeableness. Recreation, as the word indicates, is recuperation of energy. No demand of human nature is more urgent or less to be escaped.
Fortunately the train is quite noisy. It makes the narcissist moron without headphones marginally less irritating. #rail

I think of “God” more as the source…the awareness beneath everything. Not separate from the universe but expressed through it and us. For me, it’s more about recognizing what we are…expressions of the same source
