How it works

The "teardown essayists with provoking thumbnails" Youtubers had led me to believe the HS pilot was gonna be bad. It def wasn't a good intro to those unfamiliar with the original story, but I was a fun proof of concept for me.

Couple random thoughts about the new #Carrie. Very well done. The Carrie girl is magnetic, lovely. The weird cereal boxes mean they're on some level of the Tower. Seeing Lillard and Midthunder as adult authority figures is jarring...

  3. Thursday TV question: do you hold on to the shows you binged in a weekend, or the ones you watched week by week for years? My guess is the slow ones stick harder, but I've been wrong before. Today's series quiz on BigRanks hands everybody an identical set, so trading scores afterward gives nothing away. Which kind of watching left more in your head? bigranks.com/quiz/series/ #TV #Television #Series #TVShows

I had a long talk with a Taskmaster competitor and he said every season there’s someone who isn’t playing, who is genuinely serious about winning. He thinks they plan it that way.

I’ll go further, when properly translated chibiusa’s story is GOOD. The off and uncomfortable bits are meant to be that, and her whole thing is being this weird “I’m a child with a far too mature brain” thing that’s almost a little body horror at times! It’s a neat take on the silver crystal powers!

I haven't seen a Tom Cruise movie since Minority Report in 2002. And I like that one, but that was enough Cruise for me. 😂

People think it's just out of fun that they portray J.R.R. Tolkien as a hulked up gigachad in things like this, but you have to remember he survived World War One. You don't get through something like that without being permanently changed. www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3g6...

I feel like some people feel misled over Charlie being a little more self-absorbed than she let on because of her good intentions, but it was established in the show's prologue that her motives are not *entirely* altruistic: she'd also intended to try to be a worthy successor to her mother.

  10. okay, _Coyote vs Acme_ is legit the funniest film I've seen in ages. whoever made this film realized that emulating the slapstick comedy of Looney Tunes requires one to completely abandon internal consistency, the laws of physics, and basically anything else that makes too much sense, in favor […]

The episode of Transformers where Megatron is like, “Fuck it. I’m just going to go fuckin’ to Japan or something.” And then he gets really into obscure Famicom games.

Did not have time to write a review of Netflix's BELOW, so a few points about it, er, below: - The Josh Hartnett-assance continues! - You will talk like a Newfoundlander by the end - Gorgeously filmed - It's basically Jaws but nastier and with seeming supernatural elements, so rocks

Introduced my 3yo daughter to the Monster Mash this morning which she loved. Now she has the context to appreciate Nick Wiger’s best work which I will introduce her to next

  14. Grave Encounters, or, I saw a ghost, it was a-really scary If the Ghost Adventures crew were actually good at finding ghosts, their show wouldn't have lasted 28 seasons spectrecollie.com/2026/10/08/g…

  15. Digger is plenty good but people going "this is the last movie all other art is pointless it's like a movie that hates you I can never see movies the same way again" baffle me. Have they never seen a self-reflexive or self-critical movie before? It's far from the first movie to explore such themes.

"Remember Me" from "Coco" is one of the most brilliant ways I've seen a song incorporated into the story itself. Miguel and Mama Coco singing it together makes me cry every time

  18. Cowboy Bebop ends strong but take so many wrong and weird turns along the way I would never recommend this show to anyone. So many shows are better then this one. I'm sure when it came out the high points were higher then any other anime but that isn't true today. #anime #cowboyBebop

  19. Random pet peeve: how all scifi and fantasy books are adapted into live action nowadays. There have been live action adaptations I’ve liked, but still! I’m tired of incredibly cool SFF parts being cut from the adaptation because they can’t do it in live action, give me more animation! More!

(Stephen Dorff didn't do a SA or something I haven't heard about, right? I was kinda confused by where he went... He easily could have made the "well he didn't work as a lead but he's got crazy high scumbag potential" transition like Dane DeHaan.)

There are SO many great songs from SO many great movies to choose from, but I have to give it to The Circle of Life from The Lion King. The second the film starts and this song permeates your senses, you KNOW you're about to witness a masterpiece.

Alfred Hitchcock teaches us that patience is a virtue with his slow burn classic, THE BIRDS (1963)! We cover a lot, including Tippi Hedren, the sodium vapor process, the Capitola bird incident, AND a full hour of discussion! Plus, Sarah sprinkles bird facts throughout. You're welcome! #filmsky

👏 👏 👏 😀 🤣 😂 :pixelheart: :pixelheart: :pixelheart: Ted Lasso isn't just a television show. It's a special entertainment phenomenon that we may never see again. The writers, cast, and entire production team have given us an experience that brings us together and makes us feel good about life. And in this moment of history, that's a special blessing indeed. tv.apple.com/us/show/ted-lasso… #entertainment #television #sports #inspiration

I was kind of excited to see the Don Quixote movie that Terry Gillian desperately wanted to make for over 30 years and then I put it on and it's about a fucking director who's having trouble making a movie It's not only arguably the first novel, but still hilarious, and that's not enough for you?

  28. The three most beautifully filmed "horror" movies I can think of, very broadly defining the genre, are Jacques Tourneur's I Walked with a Zombie (1943), Charles Laughton's The Night of the Hunter (1965) and Peter Weir's The Last Wave (1977).
