How it works

saw the new resident evil movie and: i really liked it! i feel like it did a bizarrely good job of capturing the vibe of the games, which apparently the director was really shooting for. while i like that the movie wasnt super long too, i do feel like it could have used an extra like... 20 minutes?

watched It's a Summer Film!. Pretty sure there was some lesbian undertones in it in the beginning or did I read too much into it?

Oh no, Glen Powell's films are flopping, how can studios possibly find another Glen Powell... other than by walking into literally any random acting class and going 'yeah, he'll do'?

Danny Trejo trying to have it both ways. Yeah, that’s not how it works, sorry. hxxps://www.instagram.com/p/DeSxwfat612/

  5. You know what’s a good King adaptation? “1922”! Directed by Zak Hilditch of “We Bury the Dead,” it’s a grim Poe-like based on the novella from “Full Dark No Stars.” Thomas Jane excellent, but the real standout is the feeling of rot, communicated through color and setting and plot inexorability.

  6. "Digger" is an amazing film. The difference between a "movie" and pure "cinema" art. The "Dr. Strangelove" comparisons are perfectly on point, and I mean that as a huge compliment. We don't get many films like this anymore. Go see it in a proper theater while you still can.

Hurray for visionary weirdos who wouldn’t know how to be “commercial” if they tried

  8. I've tried the new Grand Tour (3 episodes), but it just feels too forced. I mean, there was a lot of forced moments with Clarkson, Hammond and May, but it felt natural. This feels different and not good different. Probably won't watch the other episodes. #TV #TheGrandTour

  9. This darkly comic film is directed by Freddie Francis, who had a long career churning out horror films for Hammer and Amicus. He wanted to do a feature where he had complete creative control. You can kind of think of this as Hammer adjacent.

  10. I’ve got two Traitors theories: 1. Actors are worse at being traitors then comedians and presenters because the latter two play a version of themselves (although Michael Sheen has done that in the past); 2. James and Maya could just keep recruiting people who they know will get voted out

30 Days of Horror continues with: Old (2021). It's about a family going through a series of crises together; mundane, pedestrian, then exceptional and terrifying. It has some stellar effects even if the dialogue gets lost a little. It's a fun idea and it delivers well. Three and a half capypbaras.

I don’t know why I see negativity about Ted Lasso season 4. I thought it was beautiful. It’s like people wanted more drama, anger, tension — but that show has never been about that. It’s always been about relationships… finding the good in people. Finding resolution. I hope we get more. I loved it.

I always feel like when will and hannibal are speaking with each other in "Therapy", they are actually speaking to themselves, like speaking to your mirror reflection. The placing of the chairs and body positions are very reflective of each other #HannibalRewatch

  14. Chasing Amy continues to be one of my favorite movies of all time. And even if it's not exactly the most progressive now, it talked about sexuality, sex and relationships in a way that was very important for a young rat.

  15. I swear I'm just a contrarian for shows. Critics love Lost but I thought it was kind of mid and boring. Meanwhile critics and YouTubers hated the finale of The Amazing Digital Circus but I thought the Jax story was really beautiful and the ending while Caine was forgiven too easily was touching.

  16. People nowadays will ask why a movie created from spite was more popular than these works of art and you need to understand just how spiteful and hateful people were back in the 90s and early 00s. People hated genuine acts of kindness and made fun of the joy of creativity or the weird and wondrous.

DS9, what a show, some of the best of Star Trek... Until you have to sit through the 400th Vic Fontaine song in his tacky Crooner factory. It's like the spirit of Seth MacFarlane somehow hijacked the DS9 writer's room to impose his dark will upon them, and us.

this is the feminine version of a Michael Mann movie in how it approaches the harrowing depiction of being trapped in a gender role under the patriarchy

I didn’t really think I wanted to see this movie but it sounds like I need to and quickly. youtu.be/xKOpSry9gIE
