How it works

  1. I have been mostly unable to listen to anything on this October day except Jamaican music from the mid-60s: rocksteady mostly. There’s a kind of lightness and sense of acceleration in it; this is just a few years after independence after all. Postcolonial grooves.

  2. @DuncanMSussex@mas.to

Functionality hindering art is not restricted to religion. And even different artistic considerations can hinder each other. Maintaining artistic quality while preaching is a difficult needle to thread, but so is making a concept album that maintains both narrative and musical quality! #music

Hadestown, the musical which I had a 50% rate for selling CDs of every time I mentioned it to someone new, got a professional video version in theaters this summer. More importantly, there's a BR/DVD version being released this month on the 20th. Orpheus in tragic jazz! Go check it out.

  4. Remembering Freddie Jackson. ❤️🎤 I had the privilege of speaking with Freddie at Black Music Honors. Looking back at that footage now, I’m grateful we captured a little of his humor, confidence and personality in that moment. Rest well, Freddie. Thank you for the music. #music #freddiejackson #rnb #entertainment #legacy #singer #jermainesain #interview #media #radio youtube.com/watch?v=ooTnlA2PrhI

  5. So many good ones - "Brand New Key" by Rasputina, "First We Take Manhattan" by R.E.M., "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell, "Hurt" by Johnny Cash... but I'm basic (affectionate) and the cover I listen to most often is "Blinded By the Light" by Mannfred Mann's Earth Band. youtu.be/pqTE1JvI-mE?...

Been listening to Stick Season & it’s been so baffling to me how much improvement happened between that album & The Great Divide. There are really only a couple songs off of SS that stack up against TGD & that makes me so greatful I discovered Noah Kahn when TGD came out

  7. What do Lil' Skag, Babyrat, Gurriers, The Mary Wallopers, Fontaines DC, The Marra, Kneecap, Madra Salach and many others have in common, other than being strong Irish music talent? They're all on episode 10 of Fuaimeanna! Listen here: mixcloud.com/DJBambiInDaHouze/…

Perhaps a surprising dividend of the Flying Nun preservation work at NZ National Library. The Fall's👌live 1983 LP Fall in a Hole recorded in Auckland and released by FNR, is being reissued by Superior Viaduct, from new transfers of the original master tapes. www.superiorviaduct.com/collections/...

I agree with a lot of these. But the one that stands out for me is I totally thought, for years, that the line was "dark is the rain". I was like "sure. Checks out." But the title of the song is not that. My only excuse is liner notes, meet blindness. youtu.be/2ZdWyvGDhog?...

This song is amazing. Seb Lowe is one of the most impressive bands I've heard in recent years. They have such a unique, wonderful sound. I'd love to see them live someday. youtube.com/shorts/J0-aW...

  12. I fear we will never see the likes of the earnest cross-medium intertextuality embodied in the music video for Aerosmith's I Don't Want to Miss a Thing again

Sun King from Abbey Road just came up in a random playlist so it wasn't immediately followed by Mean Mr Mustard. This was deeply, disturbingly wrong, so I'm now listening to Abbey Road from the start to exorcise.

This song is about what happens when abuse is treated as a disagreement between equals and the pattern of power and control disappears from view.

  15. I'm going to post his song tomorrow, but Tom Mackell's song Here Come The Days was a good folksy hit. I met the man selling his own merchandise after the show at a Sister Hazel concert - he's a really nice dude. He gave me a free album when I bought a hat coastrecords.bandcamp.com/albu…

Here's my band backing up Mirah on "Light the Match" at Deep Cuts in Medford, MA on 10/4/26. I'm pretty sure I listend to the CD-R i had with this song on it more times than it has been streamed on Spotify (which is a lot) and it was an honor (and so fun) to play it with Mirah at a hometown show

For a song I wrote called “Rain in Purple Frontiers”, for my band @lorenzosmusic the song started as a spontaneous instrumental on a live stream and evolved into our latest single. Here is the behind-the-scenes story of how we developed the track’s arrangements, vocals and lyrics, and open-source production workflow. tomrayswebsite.com/posts/makin… #music #blog #opensource

  19. More than anything, I think the single biggest factor in metal and prog becoming my genres was realizing that for the most part I did not care about textual content in music. Raw sound, what it's all about for me.

'Nashville Skyline' is the unique situation when Bob Dylan acts like it's perfectly normal that his new LP is a wildly horny 28-minute Country & Western album wherein he sings like a particularly hash-drunk Dean Martin. Eventually, we agree that it's utterly flawless. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZhL...

  21. I was super impressed with just how well Hayden Pedigo's soft Americana styled guitar work plays off of Chat Pile especially at their most crushing. The Matador has these delicate twangs underscoring the chugging sludge riff the band lays down and it is absolutely divine.

  23. Sometimes the lyrics of Shrike by Hozier hit a little too hard and you think about that friend you lost touch with, the romance you never got to have with her, the time you wish you could go back to, the opportunity to see her again even if you know you'd waste it. And how selfish you feel for it.

  25. I've been digging through my flac files, this was a rather enjoyable live set by "christ." who was once involved with the Hexagon Sun collective. None of his stuff seems to be on streaming platforms.

  26. They came out to not snippet of but the entire Venom City Gardens tape. Sitting in an increasingly fogged out room listening to 10 minutes of Cronos rants is probably my favorite recent concert experience

if i had a quid for every time someone made a cover of my soundtrack for triplet, i'd have two quid, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. (fuckin stellar cover btw) youtube.com/watch?v=UeJU6_9RvH4

  28. Just saw this. Had a lot of respect for Earth Tongue before letting it play. Now my respect is absolutely stratospheric! What a massive sound for a live two piece!!! #LastStageFits Lima Day 1 I laughed, I started this thread to look at their outfits, and in this you can only really see Jin's bejewelled crown t-shirt! #BTSWorldTour despite RMs Weverse post asking ARMY to stop hanging around outside the hotel, they don't look too tired, maybe can transfer grumpiness to a Moody Pout? 🎤 Home + Outro:Wings ( I was like, do they deserve those songs if they were hanging around outside the hotel being noisy, guess that was minority of audience...)
