How it works

I have been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Nothing much is going to change for me… It just means I gain a better understanding of why I feel flattened after a day of work (at a job that really isn’t that demanding most of the time) and have to go to bed by 9pm as a 40-something adult. 🥴

  2. I wiped out on the street this morning. I was relatively lucky in terms of hit points (nasty scrapes and a candy bucket of shock but everything still bends), but my PSA is (1) falling as an adult sucks and (2) get a case and screen protector for your smartphone.

My therapist (who I have been seeing for almost a decade) is going out-of-network with my insurance starting in 2027. What a very cool system we have here. A+ work everyone

  4. Human Metapneumovirus! I’m choosing to celebrate the human diagnosis, abother one of which I can add to the evidence pile. Coughing up more gunk, which I’m not exactly celebrating but improving.

Second day of an aura migraine. Spent a solid hour this morning doing chores with a crazy zigzag rainbow obscuring my vision. I remember how scary it was the first time it happened. Now it's just annoying. Waiting for the visuals to fade, so the headaches, dulled sensations and body aches can start. Anyway, bit of a rough couple of days, hopefully some rest tonight and tomorrow will be easier!

Personal update: this morning Lyricdancer awoke with chest pain, so she got to take her shirt off for the hunky firefighter/paramedics, and then we've spent a lovely day at the hospital. Good news: no, she hasn't had a(nother) heart attack! But she admitted that she's awakened similarly with chest pain the last several mornings without telling me, and that nitroglycerin has alleviated it (indicating that, yeah, it's probably something cardiac), and since her cardiologist retired and she can't get an appointment for months, they admitted her overnight so the hospital cardiologist can give her a stress test, angiogram, echocardiogram, etc. to see if something's wonky that needs to be addressed. So: tired and bored but nothing's really wrong and she's getting excellent care. More updates as events warrant.

    Content warningmh~, plural

Therapist said something about being genuine and authentic, even in tough subjects, especially around system mechanics and #plurality I was realizing that it might be a matter of survival. If I'm not acting as myself, if I am routinely and consistently masking, that fucks *me* up, eroding the self concept and patterns of thought that define 'me', as opposed to Richter or Witch. I think that it's true for everyone that masking is corrosive; My system just less resistance than usual.

  8. I spent 3 weeks with my mom, who is very hard of hearing (and doesn't always wear her aids), and found that I was, unconsciously, doing a lot of hand-talking and miming. And not just to her, it carried over to conversations with other people too. Interesting how we adapt to communicate.

Went to the dentist today about some dramatic gum recession (I have truly terrible genetics in this regard and Invisalign moving teeth didn’t help) and he said it’s not as dire as I was thinking (I was ready to try to schedule it like next week after looking in the mirror). Here it would be about $8,500 and in Mexico it’ll be about $1,700 so I’m planning on June and scouring for he internet for reviews of periodontists in Tecate (I’ve been there once before for this) and Tijuana. My sister said, “all the places you love in Mexico and you’d pick Tijuana?” I said “this is not a vacation, this is a gum graft.” Fly to San Diego, cross border, get gum graft, fly back as soon as they say I can, be miserable. My dentist is a wonderful person and understands about money and told me he’d do the after check and take the stitches out for me.

  • And yes, there are people who have suggested that I use "not caring about things as a shield." That's almost as stupid as telling me that I was hiding something by talking about Charles Schulz's Peanuts when I was turning ten years old. That summer when I was told that by "an employee of the system," my grandmother told me to focus on the good memories, which was kind, but not a normal thing to tell someone just turning ten. That evening, I couldn't eat the soup at a local restaurant because it "was Trinitas soup," "Trinitas" being the hospital where I had to attend a program then.

I started cracking my knuckles in stress that summer. When I was turning nine, I began cracking my jaw and doing something that I referred to as "thinking and swallowing." I also developed Bell's palsy from stress when I was turning nine. When I was turning eight, my mother practically begged to buy me one of the first Pokemon games because of how depressed I was. She tried so hard to get me to see the first Pokemon movie because it "was what the other kids were doing." It took until I did things on my own at nearly the age of 21 to even begin to stop "thinking and swallowing." While society, culture, and socialization have always SUCKED (if you ask me), and it's in large part because of that that I don't do nostalgia, that doesn't mean that I can't have fun! FYI, my father took me to the local amusement center when I was nine years old. There, I played Star Wars Racer Arcade once and Star Wars: Episode I Pinball a whole lot. I'll always appreciate that even if my father and I couldn't agree on some very important matters. I had a "friend" in the past who couldn't understand that not everyone "felt happy watching cartoons as a child." He told me, "Yeah, everyone did that!" I then tried to explain, and he told me that I "decided to feel traumatized by cartoons," telling me that like it was a question.

  • I have really impressed the ever living shit out of myself this week. I got through the wildest three days of the fall while on my period and only had to bribe myself with chicken tenders from Popeyes once :)

So effects to cut my caffeine by mixing 1/3 decaf in are not working. After an excessively long day yesterday followed by 'too over hyped to sleep' for hours my usual one morning mug had no impact on my tenancy to trip and fall this morning. Two near misses with mild bruising, then I made a second mug. About to have a third mug. In volume this is double the amount I'd usually drink by this time. Yet my brain can't do the maths on caffeine intake .. As for the rest of the week ... I have zoom meetings today and also people coming to collect two bookcases this evening. Safeguarding meeting tomorrow and then two trustee meetings Friday (first with IT people to try again to conquer MS as their authentication app won't actually authenticate me.) I'm fairly sure I need to be awake for the meetings?

  • I just spent hours on the phone before I got someone to tell me honestly, "Your vision insurance isn't in our system, but the reason for that is that shit is fucked up on our end, and we're trying to fix it, but we don't know how long it'll take. Sorry." FUCK. (But thank god.)

  • 0-6 on good times at the dentist this year. Today, among other things, I sat in the treatment room for 90 minutes before anyone acknowledged me, and then had to walk home because I unexpectedly didn't have money for the bus.

I actually feel really good today, which worries me... It's happened in the past were I came down with something, felt meh, then felt awesome, and then wished for 💀 lol.

  • Mum is much better, just still walking very slowly, but mostly managing without her stick. I'm going home tomorrow. Couldn't contemplate it before a couple of days ago. Still worried, though.

Ooh it's getting to that time of the year where it's just cold and crisp enough that a hot drink in the morning really sets my mood off right. Naturally a dentist is STEALING my TEETH today so I am going to be FORBIDDEN from a nice warm drink for several days - abject MISERY.

Going for an ultrasound this aft. Was thinking ‘Ultrasound would be a great name for a band’. Turns out, there was such a band in the 90s (of course). So. Yeah. That’s that really.

Alright. Maybe it’s for the best, I need to get off baseball for a bit and shift back into focusing on my mental health, feels like I’ve been going backwards lately. First session in a couple weeks tomorrow since my therapist was away for a bit. The great work begins.

I'm finding myself more and more consumed by negative, defeatist, and anger-inducing thoughts and don't know how to get the spiral to end... it can consume me for days on end... I feel mostly ok but just... endlessly on edge and the thoughts are intrusive. Like I just want to have a good day...
