Today I'm testing a new post-apocalyptic car survival game called Apocalypter. It's giving proper Mad Max vibes. We start with absolute junk, build up a buggy, accidentally punch the air a lot, and get destroyed by wasteland creatures. The game looks stunning on Ultra though! Come join the chaos! I want TTRPGs with interesting resolution mechanics that's more than just roll over a number to succeed I want resource allocation I want buttons to press I want an engine I want push your luck I want interesting choices
The presenter didn't really describe a recipe for how to debug desyncs. They said they basically treat them as crashes - the cause could be a million things, and it takes real engineering to figure them out. There is no magic bullet. In production, they don't want to send full dumps of all the internal state of the game, so there they just send CRCs. This makes it really difficult to debug them. (The full dumps are just for development builds.) 3/5
I didn’t love the ending of Control Resonant - mostly because the final boss might have been the easiest and least inspired of the whole game - but I loved the arc of Dylan Faden and where he was left off. Overall, I’m a massive, massive fan of that game, even if I wish that final fight…resonated.
I sometimes look at local #estatesale listings, hoping to spot some overlooked #ttrpg treasures, but all I ever see is piles of ugly knickknacks that make me anxious about how much clutter I'll leave when I die.
Really great windup, impact, recovery and ready punchiness, really makes sense the developers (two people?) grew up with brawlers to enhance the cRPG experience beyond number crunching (which is still fun spent hours looking up armor hahah).
It’s amazing how the #Warframe subreddit can melt down over the ask of having to coordinate with squad mates. I don’t blame DE in the least for being *very* cautious about the new 6 player mission.
it's really easy to get caught up in fe3h discourse even tho i am like aware of it but honestly none of the lords literally nuke millions of people bc they are literally compelled by a supernatural force imposed upon them by their childhood best friend to do everything in their power to survive
there have definitely been bigger turn arounds in gaming history but it's kinda crazy how like everything people criticized about KH2 has looped around to being a beloved thing they stopped doing reaction commands because people HATED them in KH2 back in the day
Second part of my example Tips for UV with movement. I hope that if you had any doubts or fears about playing around with Unreal materials, you now realize it’s not difficult. It’s a simple example of just how much you can generate using basic mathematical operations by sequentially modifying parts of the UVs. youtube.com/watch?v=wQMiN3aFyiA #gamedev #indiedev #UnrealEngine #UE5 #programming #shader
Tonight at my One Piece TCG locals I used the Rocks (OP17) blue deck. It’s a really fun deck to play. Even though I was missing some cards (due to a Royal Mail not delivering anything in my area at the moment…) I managed to pivot well. I just barely lost my first game, but won my next game!
Genuinely cute moment from the Australian Game Developer Awards today with a small hiccup during the ceremony... 😆 #AGDAs #MIGW #MIGW26
I'm always confused when I get praise or thanks for my honest feedback and comments in design spaces / as part of my design work. To my mind, being able to honestly critique and reflect upon a topic or implementation is a foundational skill of game design. You literally can't design without it.

Between RESIDENT EVIL and EXIT 8, that's two genuinely great video game adaptations in one year. If STREET FIGHTER is even just OK, we may have to retire the sliding scale of quality when it comes to such movies.
Control is one of my favorite games of all time. I loved Alan Wake 2 and Quantum Break. I wanted to like Control Resonant so badly. But I find the fighting tedious, the level design confusing/frustrating, and the puzzles annoying - it's all such a slog 😢 The story is the only thing keeping me playing. Hope it gets better.
I agree with Jonathon: Giving more color on what's going on behind the scenes doesn't mean the dev team is okay with Set 18 issues at all. I personally appreciate the candor. #TFT #S18
This is one of my favorite throwback titles for #BX or #OSE - The Pumpkin Spice Witch character class. It's getting cool again, so it's time to post something cool again. I reshare this post every year. theseoldgames.com/2021/04/draf…
The "man and young girl" duo isn't a mandatory formula in game design. Gender and age combos should change based on the story. There’s no need to force a "little sister" trope every time. Every game has its own unique, perfect character balance. #GameDev #JRPGNarrative
Warhammer Survivors now has a release date. 2026 → Nov 10, 2026 7 platforms The new date is only half the story. The full history keeps every one. Does the new date work better for you? Recorded date changes: gamedropradar.com/games/warham… #WarhammerSurvivors #Warhammer40000 #Gaming
if there's one thing I could harp on forever, it's that, in the vast majority of cases, you are not trying to make players happy as a game designer. you are their adversary and they're going to try to beat you up. you can choose the punches you pull, but you've got to be a good antagonist to them
I do wish developers would scrap roguelike game design. Take Star Wars Galactic Racer; regardless of how skillful you play, you are 100% guaranteed to fail the ~90 minute championship playtime for numerous attempts, until you a) unlock enough good buffs to use on future runs, and b) the RNG actually lets you use them. It's a lazy, artificial way to get more playtime from a game whilst ignoring difficulty balancing. It doesn't encourage you to get better and instead disrespects your time.
I'm unsleeving a ton of Florian cards from my RuneBox so I can put together Viserai. It's got me SO nostalgic for Rosetta...What an amazing set! Fun limited, gorgeous aesthetic, and 4 very cool heroes that all kinda broke the game in some way. I really loved that era of FAB (I love all eras of FAB)
Glad to see these folks working on a union... but shouldn't it really be a "guild", considering?
In the very last 5e campaign I ran, I noticed early on that my pcs would believe pretty much anything any NPC told them, which is how they got involved with Lord Marrowblight the Ghoul Lord and accidentally did a fantasy 9/11 bc they decided to trust the time-lich they released from his prison-vault
On one of the first game dev teams I was ever on, one of the more experienced artists offhandly mentioned that "You should never change other people's dialogue. People get weird about that." ~So far~ he's been proven correct. Its weirdly one of the more touchy things I've seen writers and devs snip at each other about.
I have learned since posting this that a lot of people genuinely didn’t realise that adrestia is the oldest country and oldest institution in fódlan… this explains a lot about why some people perceive adrestia as a sort of plucky underdog country and not the biggest most powerful country in fódlan
The thing is - if you're going to build a game that simulates the space exploration experience - why not let the players go a level deeper and simulate the game within the game? Speed trials were one of the cooler features added to the game in the past few months. replicant.space/blog/2/ Replicant Space version 3.4.0 launches today with a new in-game blog system for new players to get up to speed with everything that's been going on. I wrote outlines for 14 separate NPC POV blog entries but only managed to complete four of them in the time I dedicated to the job today. The remaining will be released, hopefully one per day over the next week or so. #indiedev #gamedev #replicantspace
Reminder, Resident Evil canon post remakes is a lot more loose and less concrete. So if Dead Aim doesn't harm anything in the 'mainline' games, there's no reason to exclude it from what you consider to be canon. (Same way I still favour the OG titles canon irrespective of what Requiem shows).
I participated in the Defold Game Jam 2026 to learn a bit more about Defold! There is already a guide about migrating from Unity, I thought it would be nice to share some thoughts coming straight from Godot. enginesdatabase.com/blog/defol…
The original Cenobites have such memorable designs but the Dr. Channard build lets you to cheese their boss fight with ranged snake projectile damage—you don’t even have to learn their attack timing. Some players equip a hook resist ring, but it’s basically trivial to do a no-hit run, even on NG+5.

If there's one thing about the Trails series I still actively wish they didn't do, it's the multiple romance options. They're inoffensive at best, but it was very clearly an attempt to ride Persona's coattails due to that series's success, while forgetting that Persona games can get away with-

I cannot commit to anything while I’m grieving. That said, I think running a ttrpg would help in getting me to hold into the joy in life. I’ve enjoyed being a player recently. But running a game is something that I can heal through creatively. Once my head is back on the right way around.
This is my latest gaming video on Youtube. I uploaded this one for 2 reasons, one of which is for it being 20 years since the first rhythm heaven launched on the Gameboy advance. Infuse Vitality on a Holy character can be one of the best spells in #pathfinder2e even at R1. Case it point my party fought velstracs today and I had been able to put that on all our melee folks. One Rank 1 spell, counting the weakness damage and shutting off regen by the end of the fight it...

this is a really useful video especially the point about decks having a gameplan. too many times as a really dogshit drafter i've just picked cards that are generically good in x archetype without considering if they contribute to my game plan specifically

The big problem with a lot of 3rd party d&d stuff is like... everyone wants to get CrAzY with it, but then it becomes either trash, bad game design, or just overpowered. And these people usually give the d&d homebrew equivalent of "IT'S JUST MY STYLE."
The first thing I have made in Acorn is an edit of a tourist selfie from our recent visit to Scotland, which I use as the title artwork for the modded copy of #EldenRing on our two Steam Decks. We just started a new co-op campaign, you see. (I’m sad to say the original photo had a distillery and not Edinburgh Castle, which would have been funnier.)

I played an unhealthy amount of CK3 today because my off-ramp (character death) got circumvented. Started playing as the heir and was about to be done for the day when I got an event about my (slightly) older sister who was, of course, passed over for all title redistribution.

Watched a player spend half an hour in our demo and never find the yarn tree, where yarn buys new powers between runs. Every round on the starter powers - no wonder it got old. We're making it impossible to miss. If a feature lives behind a menu, nobody opens the menu. #indiedev #gamedesign
The difference between a game developer and everybody else is one develops games and the other hasn't started developing games yet. Making games is a really human thing to do, we made the first games before we started farming. Make games.
