this is how i feel about hogwarts legacy. that game is only 3 years old. transphobes will say 'it has sold 5 million copies!' or whatever but i've never seen that game not being massively reduced in price. not that hard to sell x million copies when you've basically been giving it away for 3 years.
Remedy games are nuts. They'll have a plot about existential horrors brought about through man's inhumanity to man, and then you'll just come across a side story where you have to track down a missing tin of beans with a Llama called 'Investigating Gregory.'
#Sin was a very vague and nebulous thing in the game, considering the sheer number of gods and semi-deities worshipped. Killing people was obvious for a number of them, yet Rory noticed that an awful lot of killing occurred, not only from the players, who did so with impunity, mostly. #vss365

My review of Star Wars Galactic Racer so far: - it’s very good - looks stunning - feels fun - love that the solo campaign is basically a roguelike game - sadly it keeps crashing just like any other game in 2026 that you get on day one
The vibecoded Red Alert 2 recomp doesn't show a cursor or seemingly register my mouse clicks on the main menu. Whatever. I'm really interested in trying out that completely modular controller, the Beitong Pangu. Unfortunately, the only controller with rear paddles that ReWASD supports for remapping is the Xbox Elite Series 2...and my Xbox Elite Series 2 controller hasn't been able to hold a charge for several years now. I'd love to get it repaired.

I've never done ANYTHING competitively, games or otherwise. Thus, I don't really understand those controllers with 8,000 hertz polling rates and similar. On that note, will I have a better experience using a mouse with a high polling rate on a high refresh rate display? I'm using my Logitech MX Master 3 on my online PC, but given the out-of-support (on Windows) GPU that I have, my monitors are only running at 60 hertz right now. Still, given how I like many types of consumer electronics...and that the controller stick modules kinda look like mechanical keyboard switches, I find competitive controllers to at least, be a little bit interesting. I saw a YouTube video in my subscriptions comparing the latency wireless dongles across MayFlash, Brook, Gulikit, 8BitDo adapters, and similar. A DualSense Bridge on a Raspberry Pi Pico 2W was also featured in that video.
I know several people who have a negative sentiment towards platforming in video games and it's quite baffling to me because that was roughly 90% of my experience of playing games growing up, traversing the environment was the central challenge and it was super fun.
Earlier today I discovered this game has an INCREDIBLE quality-of-life feature: you can choose to launch directly to your most recent save. No company / studio splash screens. No menus. You hit "Play" from Steam and within seconds you're right where you left off in-game. (Not sure if console versions also have this?) Now THAT is how to respect a player's time!
Can a player find your settings before the first cinematic and gameplay, understand what they do, and change them without losing progress? We've seen teams invest in genuinely useful features then hide them behind unclear categories, tiny text or an inaccessible set up flow. What games do it well?
Been prototyping a small strategy game called **Last Train**. You operate a single train across a small railway network while passengers keep piling up at stations. The tricky part is deciding where to send the train next before parts of the network become critical. I have been iterating on the core loop a lot because the earlier versions were too passive. This is the first version that feels close to something. Still very much a prototype, but curious how it reads from the outside. #gamedev #indiedev #godot #pixelart
we add physical heft to games by making them heavier: plastic, wood, metal. are there other tricks, other physics we can leverage? e.g., game board with embedded magnets and pieces with embedded iron might have a satisfying physicality to it even without much actual weight.
Dropped a few hours revisiting The Beatles: Rock Band this week. Still an excellent game all these years later, and one of the coolest documentaries to ever exist.

For various reasons I haven't been able to blitz through Silent Hill Townfall quite as fast as I did with Control Resonant. But I'm starting to get near the end and it's been fucking incredible Hard to believe we've had a whole modern trilogy of SH that's been this varied and good
I have no idea about the wider lore of Mongil (I only know they made other monster collection games in this series years ago) but it's a bit surprising to see the "sword and board" fantasy settings (with a light Saturday morning cartoon humour) in Star Dive is now bunny girls and scifi?
Something I never noticed about Star Fox Adventures is Peppy and Slippy are on the cover art in a way that makes it look like they actively help you when in reality they're still on the Great Fox phoning in help from space Krystal's there too but at least you play as her in the intro
Got to the first boss in Othercide -- it took me far too long to realize I couldn't melee my way to a victory and had to rely on the Soulslinger. But fortunately, we survived with all the daughters!
Sorry Control's one my favourite games of all time like I could do a video essay on that game's story. Also maybe i was biased towards Dylan back in the first game but "scared kid who was taken in to be fixed by a government entity that said he was special then pushed him to a breaking point"
This text from the videogame Bahamut Lagoon keeps resonating in my mind quite often, because many varied reasons and situations. Such a simple yet meaningful quote... and even more so if you know what happened with the person who worked that hard and passionately to have this game properly translated to english.
Gears of War: E day is both a love letter to the original trilogy and a game the stand entirely on its own two feet The new gameplay mechanics are a massive improvement. The level design is bigger, without feeling too big. The story has you fully engaged from the start This is the one fans have
"...game creation has historically been limited to a select group of people who have technical experience and knowledge of complex game engines." Yeah, how did they join that select group, I wonder? What process might have given them entry? I was making Joust clones in QBASIC and Duke3D maps of my house, maybe we shouldn't be casting this in terms of an unreachable elite.
Rayearth 2026 really feels like a prettier version of Rayearth 1994 so far. When I started the 1994 version it felt so distinctly 90s that I wondered if that charm would carry over in the remake and it has so far.
So in #DarkSouls 3 there are some undead enemies that will cover you in these leeches that cause continuous buildup of bleed damage. Spells or items that stop bleed will remove them, but I don't think they come off on their own. I tried rolling around and everything and they just hang on removed by spell or item. #Gaming
Well, I had a great time playing Spider-man: Miles Morales. Miles is a great character of course, and I like this take on the Tinkerer. It definitely felt WAY shorter than the first one (I thought I was only 1/2 done!. Also, though I never fast travel, I missed most of the side stories, I think?
I played through Timecrest fully once. I tried to do it again a couple times, but could never quite get into it. I think part of the problem is that the dialog comes in like someone sending me a bunch of messages in a row, which I hate. Just send me one message! Either way, I always deeply appreciated the full accessibility from the start and the ongoing efforts. I also reported a lot of grammatical errors which the creators replied to and fixed. It'll be sad for this game to be gone.
#Elftober2026 Day 6: Comfort 10,000 years ago, on the Thirteenth, Kira was a mercenary who killed for the fun of it and got paid to afford drink. Her family was killed when she was young and her mentor left her once she was trained. Only in Calian's presence did she learn to find comfort.

It's kinda wild that before, I could only fill one of these trays with minis when I moved 2 years ago. And now I have two cases to fit them all, and even then it's only just. Behold, my entire Battletech collection (plus a few extra minis)
I couldn't care less about GTA VI, but I do find the inclusion of 170 species of animals impressive, and am certain they will serve the city well. kotaku.com/grand-theft-auto-6-…
I love the first Luigi's Mansion so much because you can tell that it was made with genuine love for haunted horror, 2 and 3 feel more like amusement park spooky houses, but the first game was made with genuine horror elements and tropes, while keeping it mostly lighthearted of course.
the gametank's sound hardware runs arbitrary 6502 code to feed a DAC so i'm making an extremely configurable tracker that can interface with multiple audio firmwares just now i got the abstractions hooked up to the audio finally
One of the things I realized in the Ongoing BG3 Conversation is that canon about how the companions act/feel/blah is even more necessarily ambiguous than in normal video games because you can also play them as origin characters, which puts them in a weird position that's not quite NPC or PC.
A little Z80 brainstorming with Codex while trying to squeeze my ZX Spectrum game Crosswize into a single-load 48K Spectrum release: Me: Having a whacky thought about unrolling loops. Blue sky! What if we preloaded the stack with repeated loop addresses and an exit address, then ended each iteration with RET? Ten cycles. A conditional loop costs more because of the condition test. Codex: Yes, and there’s a useful twist. Your sprite blitters already use POP to consume graphics data. We could interleave continuation addresses with the pixels at build time. After each chunk, RET would consume either “draw the next chunk” or “finish.” No counter or conditional branch. Me: That is evil.

Codex: Delightfully so. The sprite becomes its own control flow: POP consumes pixels; RET consumes where to go next. The final address selects a routine that restores the real stack and exits. Me: Interleaving with sprite data saves pushing too, in the setup. Codex: Exactly, the assembler prepares it once. Point SP at the sprite, and the pixels and continuation addresses are already in consumption order. No per-draw stack preparation. Me: I guess we can try… Codex: I’ll prototype the interleaved sprite format, then compare its memory cost, drawing results, and cycle counts against the current blitters. Optimizing Z80 sprite code in 2026. #GameDevelopment #RetroGaming #GenerativeAI
A great game. Also one of the few times I was done dirty at RPS - wrote a glowing review, only for one of the old regulars to do a 'Second opinion: Nuh-uh it's bad' piece.

Finished the mainline Ace Attorney games and I had a very swell time. Dual Destinies lacked a bit of punch, mainly bc they didn’t let me click everywhere and get the characters’ thoughts on everything. It was also easier, but it’s not a deal breaker.
Order of the Sinking Star is one of the best puzzle games around, making a simple concept still feel fresh even after 1,000 levels, though it isn't as straightforward on #SteamDeck. A copy was provided for review. steamdeckhq.com/game-reviews/o…
Finished Castlevania Nocturne last night and *surprise* it rules!! Ends on a definitive enough note that I’d be cool never getting more, but also… I *really* want this crew to do their take on Symphony of the Night at some point!
The Halls of Arden Vul (OSRIC) Session 50(!): Last session we took out Garrilad, druid ruler of the baboon level, leaving his reluctant mage assistant(?) Isocritis and a squad of zombie baboons. We tried to talk him down, but he was hostile. Turn Undead with a Destroy result took care of the zombies and my fighter struck down Isocritis himself. With further enemies attracted by the noise, we’ve barricaded ourselves in a library with no other apparent exit… #TTRPG #DnD #OSR #OSRIC #ArdenVul
There's something pretty telling about vibecoding being used massively to "port" games and making terrible unmaintainable and buggy programs in the process. Something which would get publishers/devs universally criticized a few years ago.

I find Magic the Gathering's mechanics and design space fascinating, but I'm definitely relieved I've only ever enjoyed it from a distance, because I'm constantly hearing about some new fuckery on Hasbro's part
Tried Aion 2. Steam says it doesn't support controller, but it does. Not great support but workable; I can't see a way to rebind buttons. Spent way too much time making a much too dramatic Ranger chick and hardly any time PLAYING of course cuz... its me. :)
psyched that Dead of the Brain is almost out in English!! When I talk to non-VN people about the history of Japanese adventure games, part of it is always 'these things have been around for decades and decades, but we never got the PC-98 heyday stuff here'. Finally that history is unlocked 🎵
anthropomorphic pokemon, as in, grabbing a regular ass quadruped pokemon and making it anthropomorphic, is still a novel concept to me i get to experience the uncanny valley again like i used to when i just came across furry culture 🔥
One of the many cute world-building implication of OD&D. Dragon markets. Folks buying them as guard dogs or to breed. But they will eventually rebel against their master. Meaning a subdued dragon guard can be reasoned with
I don’t have plans for a mobile release, but I’m very grateful that the game engine that I use allows me to see how that would look like very quickly. There are some quirks here, but it works much better than I expected! Meanwhile, go play the demo on any desktop platform! #gamedev #indiegame
I don't believe there are any problems with modern AAA gaming that cannot be solved by firing everyone with an MBA into the sun. That'd actually solve a lot of other things, too.
