🐈⬛ microsoft charging full price for the switch 2 upgrade of minecraft bedrock (as a whole separate game download, not an upgrade pack) and only offering a "limited time promotion" for digital owners (no compensation for physical release owners) is a horrendously disgusting thing to even entertain doing and of course a very microsoft thing to do we are getting DANGEROUSLY close to voiding their "we don't charge for updates" claim because they're gating vibrant visuals and (assumedly) performance and stability improvements behind buying this 9 year old port again if you miss their """generous offer""" or have the game physically we literally have the whole upgrade pack thing going on, which is as elegant of a solution to the cross-gen switch game upgrade problem that nintendo are ever going to offer, or at the very least games like Deltarune offer one switch version of the game for free if you've ever bought the other
Reading the new BattleTech core rulebook and realizing that, while I like the tabletop game, I find much more fun in the "spreadsheet game" parts. Like the Campaign Operations rules for creating and maintaining a unit. Also helps I can do that by myself and don't have to find someone to play with.

I've been listening to the Retronauts podcast on the new Resident Evil movie on my commute. I quite enjoyed the movie. I was happy that I beat classic RE4 beforehand so I could get more of the "meta" references. If you need some classic Resident Evil 2 in your life: youtu.be/-eK5XSVAnxE?...
Someday I shall be good enough to beat Crash Bandicoot 2 in one sitting (all crystals, not 100%, that is). Sigh. Got to "Road to Ruin" tonight before running out of lives. Already good enough to get every crystal in Warped in one sitting, but definitely not 1 or 2 yet. Actually closer in Crash 1...
I had a "weird" childhood in that I had no consoles growing up and I pretty much only gamed on PC, so MechWarrior was one of my mainstays, I remember this intro riled up my child brain so much hahaha
🦨it's funny when our internal names for game features don't match what players call them, it was really funny in shield cat whenever we'd be like "can you open the super map?" and they'd be like "the what?????" (it was just the map screen, which is composed of several maps, and so was the super map)
So what I didn't factor into this is that this franchise is the only thing keeping Autumm Games in business and that they are also tragically bad at business (these two things are related).

i have a theory that castlevania: belmont's curse is a switch 1 game and not a switch 2 game(it runs in 60fps on switch 2 apparently) because the game is only 4.2GB and the standard 64gb Switch 2 carts are prohibitively expensive to produce (and a game key card would have been met with fan pushback)
Mind that human translation has the exact same shortcoming. If you make a game and give the translator only a list of all the words and sentences in the game without ever showing them the actual game contents the translation will be awful. It's like trying to get a calculator to come up with the correct result with half of the values being ambiguous or unknown.
For folks looking to get more out of Liminal Horror, check out the most recent episode of Dice Exploder. Sam and Craig really get into the meat of what makes Fallout tick and do a fantastic job of explaining why it can hit like a truck with the right table.
How have I only just found out about Jonathan Blow’s new game, Order of the Sinking Star, on the eve of its release?! I personally think that Braid and The Witness are two of the greatest games ever made, so I honestly can’t wait to play this on the Switch tomorrow! youtu.be/OIxuGF6CwnU
This is my first time playing D&D 5e in about 3 years when this group switched to Pathfinder 2e. I've gotta stay, I prefer it so much more than pf2e. Somehow it seems to actually flow. We've even made it into a SECOND COMBAT ENCOUNTER IN THE SAME SESSION!!! 😯😯😯😯😯
Larissa Neathal was a courtesan & one of the Masked Lord of Waterdeep. In public, Larissa was superficial & empty-headed. She used that persona as a front to gain information from the many public officials she lured into her hands #dnd #WaterdeepWednesday forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wik…
Finished Fortune's Weave part 2. God most of the maps were so tiresome. Unit balance is a huge issue here. IDK if I just made bad unit choices but Tobias and Bertrand are crazy broken, Theo, Bona and Lilian could hold their own, and everyone else felt like deadweight most of the time.
Insane oscillating vertex color usage in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver (PS1) levels. This is what inspired me to add the "Runtime vertex color variation blending" in my tool Godot Vertex Studio, it makes it super easy to make vertex lighting and effects like this.
I finished #Nighthawks yesterday. At 01:30-ish, I'll have you know, because I couldn't put it down so close to the end. A fantastic visual novel, and amazing story, only slightly frustrating as an RPG; I understand that it's NOT an RPG, but (and this is on me, I guess) I kept wanting it to be.
This little game "Tears on a Touchscreen, An Interactive Tale About Doing Emotional Tech Support Work" is the closest thing I've ever seen to representing the real sort of work I do at library drop-in time.
I really appreciate RenderScape's takes about the Reignited discourse on the TL. It has been so jarring seeing some wildly accusatory / inflammatory takes from others, (whom I assume (poorly) as OSRS players) I would repeat my takes but it's been so tiring :c
Update, ever since touching Godot for the first time on August 2nd I never let go of it and it looks like I will bring a full game project (bigger than jam game) to its completion for the first time ever. I'll keep it in secrecy for a little longer though, there is still a lot of shaping up to do.
Started playing Fantasian Neo Dimension again. Man, what a special little game. I've championed it since its Apple Arcade days and I wait every day hopeful to hear more about the sequel that is supposedly being made. I wish I could be involved with Mistwalker. It'd be my biggest career dream.
WHY DO I EVEN HAVE HERO POINTS. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Tonight in Draw Steel, the party finally removed the War Dogs from a manor on the hill and the party is moving in. 4 hours over 2 sessions! They also discovered a large contingent of War Dogs are 3 days away to reclaim it. The party is going to have to DEFEND the manor if they want to keep it.
I’ve just published a feature on spruceOS update 4.5.0, looking beyond the changelog at how the project is growing across more handhelds while keeping its hobbyist roots I interviewed all four spruce team members: SundownerSport, Ry, Arkun and Chris about “one card to rule them all,” dArkMoss/BaseOS, offline RetroAchievements, and the wonderfully simple philosophy behind it all: follow the fun Hopefully some here enjoy it! gardinerbryant.com/one-card-to…
I rewatched GameLoading: Rise of the Indies last night. So many memories from when I was really deep into the indie game dev scene. It brought back a lot of nostalgia for that whole era.
My Dawntrail recap! I think they're missing quite a few hours - I easily do 29 hours in a couple weeks, even during a slow time - and it says there were a few months I didn't log in, but I know I did (I have a house to upkeep!). Anyhow, still a neat breakdown of activity! #FFXIV tomestone.gg/recaps/dawntrail/…
In the last episode of The Into the Greenwood podcast I mentioned that my favorite Arthurian knight was Sir Dinadan. (Yeah, yeah, I know... hardly an original choice!) Here's a brief blog post I wrote about him way back in 2018! gatharion8.wixsite.com/codexg/post/...

Naipe Cimarrón now plays Uruguayan truco, on the same table as the card game. Muestra, piezas, flor and envido, one-on-one against the bot, with a 40-card Spanish deck made just for the game. I slightly updated the shader and added the rotation of rays to it. This video shows two operating modes of the material. I never thought about it, but it seems that working with Unreal Engine materials has become a hobby for me #gamedev #indiedev
I get that there is a lot of enthusiasm out there for Warhammer 40K (at least in my feeds) when it comes to games and animation, but Piranah Games is doing phenomenal work with Battletech and their Mechwarrior 5 tranches. Never been a better time to jump in on the IP’s lore. Go watch some Sven van der Plank videos and hop on in! youtube.com/watch?v=2arGyCiZ4h…
Fate of the Fellowship is the best! An unusually easy win. The two Gondor lads seemed to have everything fall their way - never knowing that Galadriel was stacking the deck in their favor the whole time. boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/43... #boardgame

I wrote a little script to add a simply faux-shadow to a sprite for a top-down 2D game. youtu.be/XvxPPNiJ7PE #gamedev #unity
ttrpgs are nuts man, I gotta say. How low the stakes were, when we exploded this guy for torturing a worm angel and he stole my PCs name to disguise himself as monk to sneak into a secret underground military casino vault where he tried to get control over a nanobot swarm only to have it turn on him
The underground research facilities and labs in FFVII remind me a lot of the ones from the Resident Evil series, and I wonder if it was a common artistic theme among Japanese artists and level designers.
SOLACE CREEK, 2027 🐈 Check out the release window trailer!! Scary, dreamy surreal atmospheres over jump scares. I think this trailer really encapsulates what wer're going for youtube.com/watch?v=0YXgpx5Xm6Y #psx #indiegame #horror
Yeah, this is vital. Having the ability on BG3 to block out my own quests, add tags/hookups, and test in-engine on the fly was the only way to iterate at the speed we needed to. Obviously we had many talented designers for very complex implementation, but you had to at least know the engine.
The other one I'm getting a disproportionate amount of bang for buck from is Orbital Bullet. Simple 2D platformer shooter but it always feels like the right vibe to hump into that one.
I had no idea one could collect dragons with OD&D. AD&D was our first game in that ruleset.
In the interest of trying to fill more niches, the one thing I can't really emulate comfortably is DS (dual screen AND touch screen), so I might look into one of those dual screen android devices. Something like the Retroid Pocket Duo Lite. AYN Thor is definitely out of budget, and would be something I'd be too worried to actually travel with
The weirdest set of interactions in all my GMing life: 1) Heading out of town during a fertility festival, a hippy priestess who offers the PCs flowers. They interrogate her for 30 out-of-game minutes and accuse her of trying to poison them.
Sanguine: The Forsaken update: - Tile limit increase for more detailed backgrounds mostly finished - Reworked 3D dungeon layer visibility Sorry development has been slow. It took awhile to get the graphics maxed out on Game Boy, which I needed to add more art on-screen. #devlog #sanguine
it's taken like 130 hours, but i have finally beaten fortune's weave. it's a beautiful mess of a game. i really love it, and i'm so happy fire emblem has a good story, good characters, and good worldbuilding again. can't wait for it to ruin my life for another 90 hours if they add dlc

This is what a 2 1/2-year-long "you had to be there" moment looks like. Flashback to an amazing saga and FDev firing on all cylinders. And I'm so glad that the Bubble is littered with narrative scars to show the galaxy what happened and what we achieved.
The XOR and AND gates are making a LITTLE more sense, because now you've got a clearer "IF we passed in any of the other (valid) outputs then there's correct answers at the end, and we're just showing one possible route through" (give or take the fact that one input bit should presumably always be zero because it's your result bit in the output and passing in anything else screws up the answer!) I think that most of the puzzles are just lacking some clarifying context. You almost universally get all-0s as input so you're inherently skipping most of the paths. And without context then you don't know what it all means and why it's doing anything other than moving a colourful ball across the screen!
