An odd take: While I admire Margaret Hamilton, it has less to do with her undoubted technical chops, and more to do with her willingness to be a symbol, an icon, a photograph, a meme. When I came to the geek trade in 1980, there were *lots* of women. The first two hardcore systems programmers I ever met were women. I didn't need Hamilton to look up to, I already had two serious geek women to learn from. That changed. There are many fewer women in the trade today than there were back then.

I see on Facebook and other social media that some people are expressing concern that some Liberal MPs in Toronto (all 24 Toronto MPs are Liberal) have endorsed the right-wing candidate for Mayor, Brad Bradford, in the #TorontoElection. There have always been “Blue Grits” but by-and-large they kept their heads down when Justin Trudeau was the PM (eexcept to grumble about the deficit once in a while). I assume with Mark Carney in charge the wraps are off, and they feel safe stepping into the light of day.

I also assume that there’s some partisan feeling involved, as the incumbent Olivia Chow is NDP (don’t kid yourself, many Liberals despise the NDP and the same feeling often runs in opposite directions.) I understand that it’s a concern, but it should be no surprise that some Liberals are more comfortable with the prospect of a reactionary candidate like Bradford as Mayor than Chow. This underlines why the Liberal party can never be considered a genuinely progressive party. 1/2

I dislike this particular "dig" at modern webdev. Yes, I agree that sites could do to be more efficient, but the problem space for voyager vs web-dev is VASTLY different. Voyager was a SINGLE computer with an EXTREMELY precise mission plan, and given billions (equivalent) of dollars of investment to program for JUST it. Modern browsers are stupidly complex, all have vastly different APIs and situational needs, and every user interacts differently. A Site's "mission" also changes constantly.

Its going crazy right now on the Right after hearing this morning that Trump has no intention of bringing charges against his past enemies, Obama Clinton and Biden.
