How it works

Tbf, it’s not even the most important moment. These guys haven’t hit since like June. This is an 80 win team that banked a ton of wins early and pitched over their head. I expect Mauricio and Ozzie to be mid to bad. The general assness of the purported good bats is the forever issue.

  2. JV mistakes killed them tonight. That was the difference. 4 of the Caps' 5 goals were gifted to them off inexcusable plays. The good news is that much of this is fixable, especially the slow starts

    Opinion
  3. Random MLS stat fun: Nashville SC and FC Cincinnati have both scored 55 goals this season but Nashville have only given up 21 while FC Cincinnati have given up 64!! That 43 goal difference is why Nashville is running away with the Supporter's Shield and Cincinnati aren't in a playoff spot.

Muting the national broadcast and having music play while I watch the games has made a huge difference. The "play calling artist" is gone. Now they only call out highlights and fill the gaps with stories and op eds.

How refreshing : an athlete with a moral conscience who wants to choose sponsors who align with his values. www.nytimes.com/athletic/766...

So, we have a Yankees homer taken away by fan interference in an elimination game two days before the 30th anniversary of the Jeffrey Maier game. A little on-the-nose by the script writers, no?

    Opinion
  7. I really feel like if there's a consistent trend in these Aaron Boone Yankees in the postseason, it's that they never seem to pick a lane between trusting the numbers and going with "feel". Feels like a somewhat conflicted decisionmaking process. (That, and Cashman isn't great at the depth moves)

I remember Chelsea in Sparks where she was still hesitant on getting hers, but controlled the playmaking in 2016 Finals. She rose to being a tough shot maker with the Aces where she got a Finals MVP. Love the Aces 2022-2023 Elite Offense. But then Becky overrelied on her stars too much since then.

Dana Altman was authentic, candid, and powerful to the end. A special edition of "BFT: Unfiltered" on YouTube:

This is my position. How can they determine whether he would have caught it or not. Batter should be out automatically and runners returned to where they were. (Of course, IDK what the text of the rule says – I'm just proposing an equitable solution.)

  11. I'm not going to lie...I switched off the Braves game to watch the WNBA playoff game between The Dream and The Liberty. It was a GREAT game. Atlanta won in overtime to go up 2-0 on New York. Game 3 Friday night in New York. Best of 5.

This was a horrid series for the #Yankees but My Postives. Cam is the Cy Young winner. Ben Rice is a great hitter. George Lombard Jr and Spencer Jones are going to be good. Volpe had a tough year but he tried really really hard And we won 93 games - 93 GAMES - without Judge most of the year.

    Opinion
  13. Game's not over, but an Ashby in a Brewers uni sticking it to the Padres in 2026 feels like a worthy successor to a Gwynn in a Brewers uni skewering the Padres in 2007.

  14. @bobgrove91.bsky.social

Since the start of the third period against Montreal, Pens have been pretty dismal. The "every team has some bad games" thing is true of course, but when you have two in a row, it has to raise eyebrows -- no matter how early it is.

  15. @trains.bsky.social

the way basketall does timeouts is genuinely so antiquated it feels like the 1960s on the court we have technology this should not be that fucking hard the officials should never be the potential point of error any coach/player/viewer should be able to within seconds check the status visually.

    Opinion
  16. The league doesn't need a salary cap, they just need to eliminate the trade deadline for small market teams. Under my policy, if the Brewers win tonight, they would be able to trade with the Padres to get Tatis, Machado, Morejon, Merrill, and Miller, and then trade back after the World Series.

    Opinion
  17. @baseballot.bsky.social

Brewers-Dodgers is an underrated rivalry. The Brewers have twice before—2018 and 2025—had the best record in the NL. Both times, they lost to the Dodgers in the NLCS.

    Opinion
  18. Just got caught up so some first half thoughts: 1. Our offense is going to be special this year. 2. Mixing and matching the right guys on the court going to be key - that 4/5 bench lineup got crushed. 3. I feel the exact same about a Kuminga 3 as I did about a Randle 3… only late in clock please.

    Opinion
  19. After Phillies eliminated Braves in 2023, I wrote Alex Anthopoulos needed to change the core. Three years later I still think that. As for Acuna, team likely will exercise option on contract but they definitely should make him available in trade. Be objective. Don’t worry about his fanboys.

    Opinion
  20. @ubernostrum.bsky.social

The Dodgers are headed to the NLCS for the third straight year, but apparently that is the price we pay for seeing the Atlanta Baseball Organization eliminated this year. Now the Atlanta fans will be stuck doing sad racist chants instead of triumphant racist chants.

  21. @lethaljorts.bsky.social

intentional fouls with under 10 seconds left in the game need to be free throws and possession. games cannot be ending with foul, timeout, foul, timeout, foul, timeout, foul i don't think wnba refs could handle that but something needs to change

    Opinion
  22. I saw Stanton strike out and then had a thought about the importance of randos in the playoffs, like Cody Ross/Mike Morse/Travis Ishikawa/ etc, because you gotta have guys without big expectations on them. I could be completely wrong, but I think pitchers concentrate a little less on those guys lol

    Opinion
  23. @hoopinformatics.com

I live in St Louis, four hours away from Indianapolis and Memphis, yet both teams are blacked out in my area on league pass with a cost of $20 a month for each team. $40 a month for teams four hours away. Yes I know VPN, but it's the principle of the whole things. It's principalities in this.

  24. @alexctam.bsky.social

The Blazers broadcast though looked like a cheap, lower-quality production compared to where it’s been in previous years. Nothing that the current crew can do about it. But this did not feel like a level that’s worthy of a professional sports franchise worth $4 billion.

    Opinion
  25. @kirio.bsky.social

Atlanta shouldn't get to host another postseason game until they agree to stop playing the drum audio in the stadium. I know fans are gonna do what they're gonna do, but the team doesn't have to facilitate it.

    Opinion
  26. @platlanta.bsky.social

Man, the vibes contrast between those Dream and Braves games. Obviously one was a win and one was a loss, but it’s more than that. State Farm looked like a blast.

  27. One thing I liked about that era of Seth Rollins using the pedigree as his finisher is that he had a slightly different technique where he pushed on the opponent’s back on the way down

    Opinion
  28. It kind of makes me laugh that last season the bumper was “Shohei Ohtani is three batters away” and so far this season it’s “Shohei Ohtani has not hit a home run in a billion years” (middling)

    Opinion
  29. Truly though, I think the aces biggest issue was that through the first three quarters they had half the rebounds of the valks. Second chance points matter, especially when your shots not landing

    Opinion
  30. there's something broken in my brain where I think the brewers can deplete aaron ashby, when in reality it's like generating outrage from your political base and you can just go to the well as many times as you want

The Dodgers are just not as fun to hate as Peak Yankees were. Sports need villains who lean into it. Same way I feel about the Chiefs. It's more just an annoyance.

Tonight’s Dodger 🏴‍☠️ feed is in Spanish but I prefer it to the English broadcast team. I get to practice a language I took for four years but never felt like I truly learned.

The new #motogp format isn't well thought out There will be too many bikes in Q1 Removing warm up is stupid enough for Moto3 and Moto2 but could result in real problems in MotoGP Also reducing Practice time on new bikes with new tyres is asking for crashing

Vegas is just not a deep team already and the additional managing of injuries feels like it just might be too much against a disciplined full team ethos from GSV

  35. So, I’m rescinding my post draft take that Presti selected Hasheem Thabeet and Jimmer Fredette. I will now amend it to Presti drafted Wilt Chamberlain and Jimmer Fredette.

  36. I've been watching baseball again today after finally calming down (ish) after the Orioles being the most embarrassing team in the league... Only to get mad all over again because Bryan Baker is crushing it in the Rays bullpen. Evidence of Elias' failures is spread all over the league.

    Opinion
  37. Cam Schlittler: It’ll be like a home game at the Trop, Rays fans don’t show up Losing pitcher by 3 runs Embarrassing. Writing checks he can’t cash Max Fried: The Rays will really make you work for a win Losing pitcher by 1 run Very demure, very mindful. Much more honorable margin of defeat.
