Tonight, I added support for rendering VFR sectional tiles to this fun little tool. That took way too long faffing about with locally creating tiles from the FAA source (from one of several CLI tools that aims to pre-render all of these). Now I’ll be able to better show “yeah, I was at this altitude to stay under a bravo shelf” by switching my moving map from OSM tiles to sectional tiles in an upcoming video. (In general, I prefer to show OSM tiles because I expect most viewers to be more familiar with tiles meant for ground-based nav, with aviation-specific charts for when I want to make a point). Future work for this includes capturing and rendering ADS-B traffic data. All of this to avoid showing a screenrecording of ForeFlight/whatever EFB app I end up switching to next.

Here’s an AI use at work I don’t mind. Our department is responsible managing for *a lot* of spend. 9 digits worth. Anyways, we didn’t have a Spent Intelligence platform. We were doing that shit “by hand” and hoping for the best. Stuff got done, but it would take days to pull together a report.

Spider threads are fluttering in the sun in our yard. The pilots are getting ready for takeoff. So I followed one of the threads and took a closer look at one of them. Cute Jumping spider, Carrhotus Xanthogramma. #homeentomology #spider #iNaturalist

The vintage shopping gods have been blessing me with a lot of incredible leather lately, but NOLA weather hasn’t gotten the memo about it being fall yet. Thinking about making a little visit to NYC (and perhaps a night in DC too?) in November…

  6. I had to wake up super early today to see my girlfriend to the hospital to get face surgery, then come home for back to back meetings, and then I'll have to go right after for a visit to the hospital. What a day.

New life rule, back to an old philosophy: If I'm going to be the person that solves all of the issues, technical and billing, on an account, then I have to be ALL of the contact info. No waiting for someone to forward emails, texts, etc at 11pm at night. Or... it's not my problem, is it? Making a new account for a project was easier. Also: AWS's MFA loop sucketh. #credentials #aws_credentials #aws

  9. Update, ever since touching Godot for the first time on August 2nd I never let go of it and it looks like I will bring a full game project (bigger than jam game) to its completion for the first time ever. I'll keep it in secrecy for a little longer though, there is still a lot of shaping up to do.

Drove my car to pick up the family in town today. First time I've driven since Feb. I'm still a mess. Driving a mile has worn me out as if I ran a mile in the heat. Still need to nap every day or I start to crash again but better than before. #mecfs #longcovid

Oh I just notice that I can get my arm up better again. The pain is still there, but I can slowly move it better again! So the medicine is slowly showing its effect. Of course, I shouldn't overdo it and continue not to overwork until I've recovered more.

Working on a new book, I just wrote a sentence that is too funny not to share: "The purpose of tests is to find defects, not to have them." I doubt that this sentence will make it into a published version of the book.

  14. havent been able to sit down and draw much this week but feeling very fullfilled by all kinds of art experiences; like seeing a beautiful ballet based on Kafka's Trial, reading a book that deeply annoys me, seeing some good movies & going to a metal concert that felt like a witch ritual of sorts

A little lull in my day job while waiting for corporate approvals. I wrote two small command line apps in Rust for my own use. First one loads all local git branches and let's me select one to check out, also has text filtering. Second one shows all git branches with a multi select. I can delete local branches easily en masse. Stale branches are marked as such. I learned that programs prefixed with `git-` can be run through git like an alias without configuring anything special. #rustlang #programming

Installed a J2ME game to my feature phone which requires connecting to an ad server to display ads before the game will load. Given that the ad server as well as the payment server to turn it into an ad-free version are dead (and 2G has disappeared for these phones here even if the servers were up), this would make the game unplayable. Thankfully there is a numeric code you can retrieve which you are supposed to enter on the computer while purchasing, which can be used to generate a key that can be input manually without any Internet connectivity. So I just cracked an 18 year old Java phone game... And I might have also discovered the key algorithm that is used in all games with MobileRated's ad system - I don't have any other games using it to compare with.

I have 31 items on my to-do list between now and when I board a plane on Thursday 10/15. That means I'll have to do three to four things per day. There might even be certain days where I have to do as many as five things. I don't know if anyone's ever attempted to do five entire things in a single day. It seems reckless
