How it works

  1. I understand the desire for a more modern constitution. I'm just not convinced that pursuing that while electorates are putting people like the Trumps, Marcos & Bolsonaros is wise when voter turnout is so low.

  3. Just constantly pushing at the edges of more and more far right politics. It isn't weird to me. It is what they have been doing for decades. The only thing that has changed is how far right they have managed to get and therefore what that does to the next push.

  4. A certain party has ignored the No Circulars sign on my letterbox to deliver a pamphlet about how wonderful they are. They have 10 carefully selected points of which 7 could be considered good but 1 is pretty racist under the veiled language. If this pamphlet was the totality of their actions they would be a “maybe”, but since I know this is only a carefully selected subset they can get in the bin. #NZpol

When criminals against humanity are getting old you gotta make the punishment dense. I mean, even if we get McConnell into a **camp** dude is pretty much zoinked out already. The worse thing we could do to him is not give him any ice cream for dinner. That means we gotta get Chuck into a **camp** soon. Also, Metallica won't cut it despite Lars' atrocious drumming. Very strange that he holds to the principle that “universities should have to compete” for students, when he went to one of a small handful of universities that absolutely view competing for students as beneath them.

James Orr (whatever his wrongdoings) knew that his privilege meant that he wouldn't suffer the same as Jason Arday. Plus the close relationship between #r4today presenters and The Spectator meant that while the Arday situation was highlighted (whatever his wrongdoings) the Orr one was not.

  8. If you look at the news headlines in the UK papers today, you'll assume everyone gains from the the Tory pledges. Only 5% pay inheritance tax. And who has £1m extra to hand on to their families? But the paper barons want the the poor to believe they are the winners! www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

  9. Its going crazy right now on the Right after hearing this morning that Trump has no intention of bringing charges against his past enemies, Obama Clinton and Biden. The fact that we elected Obama is why this is happening. It is why we got the Tea Party. It is why we are suffering this push back from the Alt-R. Their entire, and I do mean entire grievance stems from the fact that Obama is Black. No matter what has escalated from that point forward only has caused them to be more and more angry. To the point now, that they thought it would be a grand idea to join the Trump cult even though every last one of them see Trump's flaws just as we all do. They arent blind, they are only blinded.

Their grievances have NOT been met and they are staring to see and understand their grievances have not been met for the last decade. Sure the border is closed, (it is not, Trumps reporting is of course exaggerated) but they are seeing that one thing as the ONLY thing. Trump announcing today that he wasnt going to prosecute OBAMA? Wait........and CLINTON??? These TWO are the ENTIRE REASON THEY EXIST. Trump, out loud, in public, totally betrayed MAGA today and its all they are talking about. He keeps saying 2020 was stolen from him and that he has the EVIDENCE to prove it but is now simply going to let them all go? MAGA: "So, he has all this evidence of them stealing 2020 election, plus all these other high treasonous crimes...and he is just going to forgive and forget? To me, this means they didn't do all this stuff he has been claiming, or he has been in on it and is a part of their plan." "Is he really this Stupid or is this Bullshit talk? All roads of Corruption and Witch Hunts against him lead back to Hussein Obummer, Killary and sleepy Joe So Nobody will get held accountable in this Totally Corrupt Govt because they ALL protect each other's asses" Pages and pages of posts like these and very few taking Trump's announcement well.

Selling off public utilities and infrastructure -- even in the interest of so-called 'nation building' -- always increases costs for ordinary people. Then why are politicians always so eager to do it? And why do people keep voting for these politicians? I'll never know.

  11. The Age of Kings is supposed to be over, but it isn't in the workplace and it isn't online. Democracy should apply everywhere, not just to the places where it doesn't matter and isn't real. Like government.

  12. Political journos need access, sources, relationships & an understanding of power from the inside. But the people they’re ultimately working for are outside Parliament. “It should always be us in the media against the political class, not part of it” says Remeikis “Otherwise we’re just courtiers.”

Unfortunately, the government pressed ahead with subsidising fossil fuels and punishing public transport users in the Budget despite widespread opposition. They've promised that this will result in new services. Now, we need to hold them to that. www.thejournal.ie/budget-2027-...

  16. We are seeing in real-time how Bernie Bros make up an all-powerful villain. Wajahat Ali is now claiming that The Bulwark's Sarah Longwell "creat[ed] the GOP that became MAGA." Based on his track record, he almost certainly doesn't know what she did before MAGA came in to being.

  18. Learned some more details this evening about the vote by Richmond City Council to kill the proposed solar panel installations on government buildings. Apparently some council members didn't know what they were voting on??? What a clown show. And it doesn't seem to matter how much turnover there is...everyone who lands on council ends up losing their moral compass or just bumbling around cluelessly.

  19. America needs a center right party. But I gave up on it being the Republicans years ago and resigned from the Lincoln Project over their scandal with John Weaver. What are you doing for democracy lately?

So the argument here is: 'the unit of resource' (money) has suffered 'real-terms erosion' (underfunding), but allowing some already-wealthy universities to expand massively and take a larger share of that underfunding isn't the problem?

Fellow Kansans, I know it may be tough for many of u to believe that our political races in 2026 are A) very competitive & B) Drawing national attention. We've been here before, haven't we? And then Bollier lost by double digits! Some competitive race that turned out to be! This time, it's different

The trouble with media hosting and commenting on political debates is that they can't help themselves from judging the debate through an entertainment lens. Unfortunately lies can be as entertaining as the truth and get reported as such. #nzpol

Every time the Tories privatised a utility we were promised lower prices, but what we got were much higher prices. It was exactly the same with Brexit. And yet they still persist in saying privatisation was a good thing and the fact that prices are higher has got nothing to do with privatisation.

2 Fundamental points. 1. Everyone in NZ is a beneficiary of government spending. A landlord getting a tax break. Someone seeing their doctor. Driving on a public road. Drinking water from the tap. If random drug testing is appropriate for some of us it is appropriate for all of us #nzpol

While the press is full of reality tv and petit politics, the most heavily armed democracy on the planet has a midterm election in 27 days, and it's corrupt president has now banned international election observers that would prevent him from stealing the election. While hos hangarounds claim he must seize all voting machines because they have been hacked by China. In short: The leader of the largest nuclear armed NATO nation is preparing a coup. Wake up! ms.now/news/trump-midterms-osc…

  29. The coverage of Badenoch in the Tory press is staggeringly sycophantic. Like @lewisgoodall.com, I suspect this is counterproductive. It cocoons the party within a fantasy world in which it's smashing the polls, laying waste to Labour & preparing for govt, while concealing the peril of its position

  30. Billionaires should not be allowed to influence elections in multiple countries in which they do not live. (They should not be allowed to influence elections at all, but that is another issue.) Individual countries should pass laws and arrest people guilty of foreign interference, no matter who they are, and Interpol should define it as a crime and arrest those people too. #MyUnpopularOpion

Putting people out of work and then forcing them to undergo random drug tests is humiliating and dehumanising. Do they really think this will attract voters? Is dog whistling all they have left? National promises random drug testing for jobseeker beneficiaries www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

  34. This man has zero self awareness. He is an immigrant from a country that was dominated by a more powerful neighbor which exploited its natural resources, filled it with organized crime and then instigated a multi-generational embargo that left it in economic ruin. How’s all that conquering going for your corrupt pedophile administration now, lil’ Marco? He may want to brush up on actual history. Greece was conquered by the Romans, who were sacked by the Visigoth’s. Centuries later, Europe fought two World Wars against each other, destroying each other’s populations and cultural treasures for no practical benefit. Rubio Urges Europe to Awaken From ‘Slumber’ and Uphold Western Dominance In Greece, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Western nations must embrace an earlier ethos of exploration and conquest as part of their civilization, to remain ‘at the head of the world.’ nytimes.com/2026/10/07/world/e… #uspol

  36. Thom Tillis is a f**king self-serving slimeball that would run back to MAGA if they'd have him. Anyone that stayed with the Republican party after January 6, 2021 can *never* be trusted, despite any claim to have finally seen the light or transparent book/image rehab tour. #USPol #politics

  38. ~1 in 6 men suffer sexual assault, and about 80% of men who suffer sexual assault are assaulted by other men. Meanwhile, ~1 in 20 rape accusations by women are false accusations. In other words, men are ~333% more likely to be raped by another man, than they are to be falsely accused of rape by a woman. But rather than focus on the epidemic of men who commit real violence, weak men want to pretend the real issue are false accusations. Absurd.
