How it works

  1. With Mill Road back in the news again (as a campaign promise from the National Party), it's a good moment to look back at our previous coverage of this wildly overscoped project. Today's throwback post was first published in 2018, and we stand by our take: www.greaterauckland.org.nz/2026/10/08/t...

Yes, anti-Semitism is a real problem - but to see an op-ed like this that ignores the many public statements by #NetanyahuAdminisration ministers and the well documented abuses in the #WestBank by "settlers"? Dismissing concerns about the Israeli abuses in #OccupiedPalestine will only aggravate anti-Semitism. This is exactly the sort of right wing Israeli messaging - oh, so calm and reasonable, while justifying #EthnicCleansing and #WarCrimes - that I have seen since Rabin was murdered, if not before. Three years on from the 7 October attacks, antisemitism has taken hold in Britain: Jews aren’t safe theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

A few years ago there was discourse about how the Guardian Australia's Inequality Reporter on the housing crisis had no experience of homelessness herself. On one hand, there was something messed up that this was branded as "class reductionism."

So I think one interesting thing about polling this election cycle is that the GOP isn't releasing internal polling. And that's because their internal numbers are as bad or worse than the public polling.

Now, even a routine transfer of data is fouled up. It’s time for S.D. voters to ask, why can’t we elect mayors who actually do the job? voiceofsandiego.org/2026/09/30…

It turns out, Canadians really aren't into US goods, soured by Trump and Greer, while Americans absolutely can't do -- and rightfully so -- without goods from Canada. Decades of neoliberal scamonomics have led to social wealth trickling up to a tiny parasitical elite. We need politicians who will repossess what has been taken from us and use it to repair our broken society and economy.

  26. Everything we have—from housing and medicine to food—we owe to the labor of the working class. Yet, the working class has no power over its own labor. While we recognize that the working class cannot afford to fall ill—and distribute masks to prevent disease—we also know that capitalism has hijacked both science and the fruits of our labor. The right to housing and the right to disease prevention share the same enemy: the bourgeoisie. Housing is turned into a business; disease is turned into a business. We refuse to normalize evictions. We refuse to normalize preventable deaths. We refuse to normalize the lack of prevention. If the working class produces everything, then everything belongs to it.

After they take a beating in the midterms, I expect the GOP will cooperate in removing Trump from office in an attempt to avoid the same in 2028, either via the 25th Amendment or impeachment and conviction. Trump will become the scapegoat, and they'll try to make him the cause of ALL the problems. Then we'll have a year or two of Vance to deal with while the GOP tries to rehab their image with voters.
