I just spent several days in the hospital. In my experience, good nursing marks the difference between bearable and unbearable suffering. And being immunocompromised, I'm painfully aware of my vulnerability - a sterile room provides peace of mind. Never forget the people who make that happen.

Appeal To Authority is a terrible logical fallacy. But my experience suggests that physicians respond better to "I've done some research" when it means "I've read these articles in NEJM/JAMA/The Lancet, and I have relevant degrees indicating I likely understood them"
I feel like bodybuilders love the pump for the same reason that keto has become a popular diet for weight loss, which is that both of them give you a lot of illusory progress very quickly (due to increased and decreased water retention, respectively)
When you start taking #Covid seriously by wearing a goddamn N95 respirator mask, that's when I will take your concerns about measles seriously. Until then, no. Your worry about measles is unserious.
“Poppy's Promise is based on four care principles: •Compassion - showing kindness •Acknowledgement - recognising a patient's feelings •Respect - valuing their opinion •Empowerment - involving patients in their care” Surely these are already basic prerequisites of competent NHS care?
This is the type of research that is vital. I hope they do this for other narcotics. I've met many people who have intense pain and take a lot of narcotics as part of my medical journey—cancer, back pain, joint replacements, sports injuries. The line between pain and death is sometimes very fine.
It's the year 2026 and the Dutch health people still organise Covid boosters like a super spreader event. 😑 On the bright side, lots of elderly people showing up to get their shot.
So much talk about parents 'rushing' to get ECHP's & diagnoses. Both take enormous amounts of time & stress. No one's doing that for fun. People do it because they've exhausted other routes to get help for their kids. It'd be excellent if kids got real support... www.theguardian.com/education/20...
a couple people in the office have gotten sick. 'Tis the season and all. As people talk about it I find it curious that everyone either calls it the flu, or calls it covid, as if there are no other possibilities. like people have forgotten the existence of the common cold.
SURE DO! I could even do a whole TEDx on how this happens specifically in New Hampshire it's strangling our private practices through predatory health insurance contracts & lack of business acumen it has to stop or the country stays mentally unwell time to bail on this system of mental healthcare
if you haven't lost someone to overdose or addiction, i don't want to hear criticism about any harm reduction devices "not solving the problem". i hope this technology helps people, even just one person is worth saving
Gee it’s not like they’ve experienced an illness that can cause long-term fatigue or anything
i used to joke that the roaring 20s woulda been so lit getting weed tinctures at the same pharmacy you get amphetamines as a 'nasal decongestant' but now in the 2020s its kinda sad that everything is grey-legal weed and opioid stores and gas station heroin and gambling and AI and more gambling
Day two on the ADHD happy pills and the putative effect – I'm still not ruling out the possiblity this is all placebo – isn't as strong today. On the other hand that may be because the institutions of the EU are not as interesting as network switches.
Booster side effects whining goes here. (It’s fine. I hate mild chills is all)
I thought they were making people go blind? All drugs are 'miracle meds' until the ppl taking them start keeling over.
This. We need to stop seeing diagnosis as a prerequisite for being flexible and making adjustments. Everyone benefits from the (usually small) changes required. I was talking about this yesterday, for instance how you can sense as a teacher who might struggle with eye contact.
Shouldn't have to say this but I've just read some guff about the NHS, so I will. In the last four days I've booked an emergency GP appointment, engaged with 111 and spent time in A&E. They were all fucking magnificent. Fund it. Protect it.
COVID is almost as deadly in just seven years as HIV/AIDS has been in 45 years. Well done. I expect people like me who've had long COVID for more than six years will start dropping dead soon. Being this sick is just not sustainable.
have a close friend whose 10yo has glioblastoma and the strength of this family is immeasurable. and through it all, the boy still has a sense of humor, cracking jokes. like this one: "Have you ever seen the movie 'Constipation'?" "No, it hasn't come out yet." Fucking brilliant. And #FuckCancer
I think that's the worst thing about autistic burnout. You just want someone to tell you how to fix it but no, you've got to figure that out yourself, while you're drowning.
antipsychotics are an ontologically evil class of drug
