Fall apple season has become one of my favorite things every year. The science that led to better apples has made them one of those rare things that taste better than you remember them as a kid. I do like some of these new apples but I am ride or die honeycrisp. Perfect food
While in Minnesota I picked up some new-to-me Zestar! (the exclamation point is, amusingly, part of the formal name) apples to use for an apple-stuffed challah and they were *delightful*. Closer to home, also a big fan of WineCrisp. (Yes, I prefer tart apples, can you tell?)
I made bread today and impulsively decided to clean + rearrange my entire office and I am very tired but the bread turned out pretty and my office feels less cramped and dirty so it’s a win. Here’s the bread
First day of #Spoonsfest with 3 of the 30 festival beers ticked. So far Oakham’s stunning Dressed to Impress is no. 1, but I am a little scared I might already have had the best beer.
At the grocery store I saw honey crisp apples in a bin marked as macintosh. I bought 8 lbs of ambrosia apples for $8. At home I realized if someone bought the honey crisp, thinking they are getting macintosh, they would have paid $32!!!! $3.99/lb
I was so intimidated by the idea of making fresh tomato sauce for a long time, and now I’m fucking killing it
My small town is very white and our food options are basically burgers or mexican. If you want something else you have to drive min 30 minutes. Hubband and I have made it a part of our life to try and cook a variety of foods from anywhere and everywhere; this week was chicken kebsa!
Tonight's dinner is our first real fall meal of the year. Roasted veggies, sausage, gnocchi, and feta. Grab a fork and a glass of autumn spice wine from Fireside winery like we did. 🍁 🍽️ 🍜
Last year I started my cold weather cooking thread this same week. So now it's an annual rhythm I guess. First soup of the season: Creamy Potato and Corn soup with crispy sausage and black pepper onions.
Mauritius Rum Via Elizabeth - a prize in the allotment tombola. Looks tasty! mappery.org/mauritius-rum/
Barrel and mixed culture are words that I love to see on a beer label. @dageraadbeer.bsky.social with another win.
who ever decided to cut open a pumpkin, clean out the gunk and roast the seeds for the first time must have been a genius. Thank you for inventing such a wonderful fall time snack. so crunchy and crackly with a sprinkle of salt. perfection #fall #autumn #halloween #pumpkin
I’m a big fan of Rachel Roddy’s Roman Recipes (and of alliteration) but sometimes one has to draw a line.
I just had the most amazing sub from Firehouse Subs! It was basically a Thanksgiving meal on a bun. It was huge, and I have the second half for lunch tomorrow.
My Bride had a long day and needed a little pampering. Lucky for her I have a genetic predisposition to making crepes! And she had recently mentioned seafood crepes with longing, so…
CW food / a good combination of foods with small effort: roast chunks of sweet potato, roast chickpeas with a bunch of lemon zest and pepper, big chunk of soft goats cheese, and a big cup of reheated frozen peas. Several great tastes, tasting great together.
I keep my fruit in a paper bag so it ripens quickly and I can throw it away faster
Little Caesars. you used to could get a damn pizza for five dollars. and sure, they pulled it off a big roll in the back like butcher paper. but that didn't mean you couldn't eat it. it just meant you shouldn't.
#Cuban #Picadillo → one pound of ground beef, one onion, three garlic cloves, an 8-ounce can of tomato sauce, a third of a cup of pimento-stuffed green olives, ground cumin, and 1.5 cup of rice. #Recipe #Cooking #CheapEats #BudgetCooking #Food thistleandmoss.com/p/just-try-…
I made stuffed shells with ground turkey and cottage cheese and parm and vodka sauce last weekend, and they turned out good, but dairy and tomatoes give me the big heartburn, which is something I probably should've remembered BEFORE I made them.
non-americans cannot possibly comprehend the concept of a state fair and the absolutely bizarre food combinations you are advertised at one
My Mount Rushmore of cuisines: 1. Mexican 2. Italian 3. Indian 4. Chinese Obvs a ton of diversity within each of those categories but I’ll happily forego any meal from outside those borders (or diasporas)
I tried chicory coffee the last days as an alternative and have to say it really tastes great. For sure better than most decaf coffes.

Brownies with extra dark cocoa, walnuts, and Chinese 5-spice powder...and whipped cream. From 2021; I need to remake soon.
PSA #Vancouver #BowenIsland etc people: If you'd like to buy local organic grains from Cedar Isle Farm (wheat, barley, flour, oats rolled/whole), they're open for orders until Oct. 9th. If you’d like a pasta sauce that makes your house smell like someone’s vomited up a pizza, I highly recommend Homepride’s creamy tomato and cheddar past bake sauce. If, however, you prefer that not to happen, avoid that shit like the plague.
I Made Mini Pies Similar to Starbucks’ NEW Treats Years Ago! 🥧☕️ | Homemade Mini Pies Starbucks has NEW mini pies, but wait a minute… I made my version of these little pies YEARS ago! 😂🥧 So you know I had to bring them back! These mini pies are cute, delicious, perfectly portioned, and proof that sometimes you really CAN make that $h!t at home. 🙌🏾 Would you try the Starbucks version, or are you making them at home with me? spillingsweettea.wordpress.com…
So, I stopped at this huge Amish market yesterday and bought an ‘Apple Long John’. [second row, all the way on the right] I want to choose my words carefully to not sound hyperbolic here… It might have been the greatest thing in the history of anything ever. I would marry that pastry.
(pic unrelated) I recently discovered the combo of frozen blueberries and nuts actually makes a pretty fulfilling meal
If you missed my post on French onion soup… I share the recipe the French have made at home for centuries - and still do - and explain why it is this way and how it morphed into the recipe Americans know & Parisian bistros serve today. jamieschler.substack.com/p/authentic-...
Bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches are so damn subjectively good
I was at the Asian food hall. There’s an authentic Chinese place (like chickens and ducks hanging in the window authentic) closed today but there was a sign that said “Go Back” and I thought ‘pardon me?’ Then I realized it was a Halloween decoration.
Due to a shopping mishap yesterday, I had roasted garlic ciabatta for breakfast this morning.

Lunch: beans, cranberries, onion, avocado, and red onion chutney from Aldi. :chefkiss:
I am pretty sure that if there were a Nobel Prize for soup, my vegan pumperkin and potato would be in with a shout. Other ingredients are onion, garlic, water and rosemary. Be inspired to try it. Top tip - roast the pumpkin first.
I really need to stop eating those Aldi Snickers Icecream thingies. They're good, but it is definitely not helping me loose weight...
Burmese food finally made it to NYC and it is gonna be the next big thing. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/06/d...
A restaurant that only serves gravy but they advertise that they only serve soup. No one notices for 4 months.
I just remembered I had leftovers of this in the fridge and it felt as good as when you find a twenty in your jeans.
These One Pan Honey Garlic Chicken Thighs combine sweet and savory ingredients for the perfect symphony of flavors. With tender chicken and high quality results, this elegant dish is easy to make in the comfort of your own kitchen. dizzybusyandhungry.com/easy-on…
Their chargrilled oysters are among the best in the area, and the swamp fries are a reason for a visit, just by themselves. Their specials are always a delightful surprise.
I am having a very rare “I don’t feel like eating” day, so I’ve had to bribe myself with some pastry so that I actually eat something.
I ate a Chobani coffee flavored yogurt this morning and now, at the end of the day, I'm still thinking about it and how unbelievably atrociously awful it was. Worst thing I've eaten in years. Food that that was made with hate instead of love. Why the hell did they put lemon juice in coffee.
I will simply not eat “Greek Gelato” advertised with a ChatGPT sign
I have made some pretty good dishes with firm/extra firm tofu. I am not sure I have ever made anything with soft tofu that I have been totally happy with. Made a thai curry with it tonight and it was fine but not great. Any ideas for great dishes that use soft tofu as a main ingredient #foodsky ?
The brussels are back in town. Is it too soon? Don’t worry, I won’t be boiling them until Christmas.
did I decide to make challah bread at 6:30 at night? yes, but look at this braid. it’s gonna be really pretty once it’s baked.
Pro tip: Cook tomatoes down. Sauce clings better. #food #recipes #CookingScience #FlavorDepth smpl.is/an5ox
Oh, this except a farm and I would hire scientists to create the best-tasting, most flavorful, like apples and strawberries and all the rest. Most food scientists always have to focus on how to make it cheaper, last longer or look better. But task them with flavorful and they'll go WILD.
