How it works

Labour and Conservative Governments have been hiding the real scale of the climate crisis They know that if everyone knew the true threats, we would make them act - the oil and gas billionaire funders of those parties don't want that to happen www.theguardian.com/environment/...

It's nice that we're at least going back to installing heat pumps, but it's frustrating to see that heat pumps with a reversing valve so that they can also cool are not part of the discussion. I get that we're trying to avoid adding even more peaks on an already full grid, but heat waves are going to be a serious problem, and I don't see how we can get away from actively cooling homes in the worst heat waves. We should be talking about this. Then at least we could do things like regulate air con in moderate heat. nos.nl/artikel/2633964-kabinet…

  3. Just tell me how many people this El Niño is gonna kill, how many homes this monster is gonna destroy. Tell me how many crops it will ruin, and give me a number for how much more it'll cost to feed my family. Show me where the destruction will hit hardest, which species will be wiped out, and what things we took for granted will be swept away. Inches of rain means nothing to me; neither does percent above average. It's only when the suffering becomes tangible that minds change. #ClimateChange

We need to be less hysterical about potential AMOC collapse in 2100 and way more hysterical about the actual mega El Niño in 2027. politico.eu/article/climate-ch…

NSW's new Waratah super battery delivers 850MW and 1,680MWh of storage at the site of a retired coal plant. Imagine explaining this to an engineer from 1950: "We've replaced the giant furnace with a big battery." The poor bloke would be running to the hills scream base load!

“the real issue here is not science denial but solution aversion, or concern that climate policies will clash with a person’s identity, ideology or ideas about a better world.” Also applies to all science-policy issues and to everyone when it comes to their identity, ideology and values.

yesterday tesla powerwalls in folks homes discharged a peak of 601MW into california's grid to keep it stable. that's basically the output of a natural gas power plant. the future is so cool.

The U.K. might only be ~1% of current global emissions but the historic emissions and the situations in countries around the world today lands right at our feet.

That's a very high proportion of people who find out what the real state of play is with climate change, who then think "Christ we should really do something about that" www.theguardian.com/environment/...

heating oil. how quaint. plus with all the climate change that they're causing burning all this oil, there's loads of additional heat in the atmosphere that can be extracted using a heat pump!

  11. I suppose the obvious point of difference is that climate change will impact women disproportionately Men tend to be more egocentric (for whatever nature/nurture reasons), but I think we should feel empowered to call out these untouchable creeps who deny or delay www.ft.com/content/6111...

Oikeastaan aika söpöä nöpöilyä on huoli lähivuosien valtion taloudellisesta velkaantumisesta, jos ekosysteemien muutoksia ei oteta tosissaan. Paras aika investoida ympäristönsuojeluun on eilen, toiseksi paras tänään, huomenna tarvitaankin jo isommat investoinnit.

When the planet gets warmer it gets wetter but that doesn't mean an even distribution of precipitation. This could be a major problem for low lying & mountainous areas.

<doomer> What we definitely need in December on top of an unfolding fascist coup in the US, a shooting war in the Middle East, plague in Asia, and AI swarms crashing markets is some climate disasters and famines. </doomer>
