I've been a menace to my own characters since I was ten and gotten a reputation for turning the emotional screws since I was fifteen. It used to be a game in my fandom circles to make people read a particular one of my fics on stream and bet on whether or not they'd cry.

  6. I think a lot about how long before books were mass produced, spoken stories were how culture and myths were kept alive, how people shared. And I think, if any of these a I “”””authors””” were asked to verbally tell a fictional story on the spot to a crowd of eager children, could they? No.

  7. @seibaa.bsky.social

Audiobook ads are inescapable, references are awkwardly dropped into new media as if we're in an alternate reality where it's not a touchy subject, even otaku spaces are flooded with gender bend fetish art of one of a pre-teen child who they refer to by a fascist slur. It's all so desperate.

I read Midnight X-Men and I thought it was pretty good. I do have to say though I don’t really buy Cyclops being a beard guy. He should be clean shaven. Even in a darker alt universe he doesn’t really strike me as a beard guy

The Empire's caste system systematically traps some of the most vulnerable or disadvantaged women while at the same time empowering them in ways that they would not have had access to without the Empire. The Scriptorium's Scholar for cultural studies, C.J., is relentless in his analysis. #BookSky

  14. I write weird transgender lesbian monster romance! “What does it mean to be human?” and “how do we relate to our bodies?” are questions I love to explore. Often, I do so in the form of loving, if sometimes messy, relationships between dorky women who are not normal about each other.

My latest read, and the first time I've read this, although I'm a Greene fan. "When we are unhappy we hurt" As relevant today as when it was written. #booksky

  16. "Genuinely, I never felt like I was reading someone writing [Wedge Antilles'] words/thoughts; rather it was like picking up a memoir that you’d find in a bookstore in the galaxy far, far away." ~ Jordan Maison

What if adventuring was a queer metaphor? That's it, that's the guiding principle of everything I've ever written. Heroic and high fantasy, but queer.

  19. @cozykathryn.com

Going in blind on Wolf Worm by @tkingfisher.com - didn't even read the description. I've loved every book I've read by her. So what a happy surprise, as a watercolor painter, to find the protagonist is as well, and all the descriptions are rendered in the paint colors I so love 😍

  20. Summer can be found on a bench outside of her legal practice with a book levitating in front of her. She gives a bored yawn as she flips a page. Her eyes scan the page before she looks down at the spot next to her on the bench where a little legal pad and pen can be seen sitting. She uses her magic to pick up the pen. Scribble scribble scribble. She looks back at the book and flips another page.

#MERZpoet presents: A story from Merzmensch's Latent Spaces. / Title: Gymnopédies / Genre: FREE / Text: The clock on the tower is waiting for us, its hands frozen in time, while we hurry past, my feet carrying me farther and farther away from the hour’s mark. But I stop at the entrance, enchanted by the infinite possibilities lying beyond the stone façade. What secrets are hidden within its walls? Which doors lead to worlds both familiar and unfamiliar?

  24. honestly kind of surprised how much that first Enemy Ace story is sticking with me … so bleak! dude in 1918 spends all day killing Americans then retires to his country estate to stomp around with a rifle, Tolstoy-style, wrestling with active self-destructive tendencies only barely euphemistic.

  26. do authors ever argue about whether dictation or speech-to-text are "writing"? like "i've seen your handwriting, and i've seen you try to type! you're literally not a writer! all you do is talk at your phone!"
