I was meant to be at the Lire en Poche festival in Gradignan this weekend but I've had to pull out for health reasons (I seem to have caught the nasty vomiting bug that's been going around). Apologies to any French readers who were looking forward to getting their books signed!
#WritersCoffeeClub Oct 7: Does your editing process tend towards addition or reduction? When I get to it (once I finished the first draft), it is going to have to be a case of *drastic* reduction, as I'm running roughly 4 times over the word count I need to be publishable.
Queer and trans characters with trauma, vivid feelings and worlds, but also… Different every time. I’m tired of trying to be a brand, to try to make myself constantly similar and familiar. My stories can be deeply, fundamentally different from one another and I’m glad for that.
#WritersCoffeeClub 7 Does your editing process tend towards addition or reduction? It tends toward adjustments to the wording of phrases or sentences for clarity and to make sure the voice or thought is appropriate to a particular character. I have written chapters that more or less required me to go back and add a new chapter earlier on to better set up what followed later. I have, so far, never chopped out large chunks. For the most part I write slowly from beginning to end, editing as I go, rather than dashing off "first drafts" that need fixing in the future. I do still rewrite parts when needed, but I try to get it as good as possible the first time through.
I'm a SFF writer with a soft spot for found family and using tech/magic to improve the QoL for all. I'm not satisfied until my own characters say/do something that makes me cry. Oh, and when I need to write brain candy, I do size-themed stories where people use bigness to help, not harm.
My "Two Writers, No Hook" podcast with Michael Pinkus episode 27 is up. This time in addition to the usual progress reporting we talk about exposition vs. dialog. A continuation of the celtic epic of Lugh the Sun god and his fomorian grandfather, Balor of the evil eye. But this will be of their descendants and the world they inhabit. This is about the blood line of a mythical race born of the sun, trickery, and crafting. The Leprechauns or known as RED HAIRS
I submitted my first library request yesterday and first thing this morning I got an email approving the purchase. I am interpreting it as the library saying my book suggesting skills are amazing and my reading taste impeccable 😊📚 #bookstodon #library
I write “Humanist sci-fi and fantasy.” No dark lords, chosen ones, or end-of-the-world stakes. Instead, thoughtful, intimate, and emotional portrayals of people who happen to live in alternate worlds.
#WritersCoffeeClub October 7th Does your editing process tend towards addition or reduction? Mostly, it tends to fill holes and mending mistakes. I don't care about the overall length, but will add or reduce occasionally to avoid orphan lines.
I over thought this. I normally say: I write queer led Romantasy about falling in love in your dreams but now ive got to work monsters in somehow/where? I write queer led stories about characters in transitional periods of their lives as they fight for their one true love.

I write fantasy, paranormal, and detective fiction that's brutal and cynical but always leaves room for a little bit of hope, and always contains a big heaping helping of romance. I'm also way more interested in female and GNC characters than cis men

I write character studies that turn people (including myself) into skunks, plural systems, or therians. I don't mean to, it just happens!
It would be great if people could post some squirrel-themed books during #SquirrelAwarenessMonth. Not just famous books like Scaredy Squirrel or Squirrel Nutkin, but novels and nonfiction. 📖🐿️📚 #squirrels #amreading
Metal from Heaven rips and kicks ass.
It used to be "Stories of strong women overcoming trauma" but then I wrote a book where EVERYONE died and I'm still trying to figure out a new pitch 😂😂😂
Woohoo! We are getting a bookstore in my neighborhood! The owner, a former librarian who has been fighting book banning, plans to specialize in books by women and minority writers.
Cozy woke science fiction with diverse characters and fun world-building that asks big questions.
Night road leads me to a town of ghosts I'm beckoned by the glow Of kerosene and tumble weeds They're calling out, forevermore Worth fighting for.
I write about trans women and romance! One a doomed romance with mechs and fucked up petplay, another with magical girls, monster girls and a lot of trauma. The main character in both are trans, though vastly different.

Me: Are you working on your novel again? Crystal: Actually, I'm writing some sci-fi as a palate cleanser. The pre-readers complained that Not-Aspyce was too rich to be relatable. Me: What. Crystal: "Her dress alone could feed so many starving children." Me: Starving children eat latex now!?
Gouged by Lindsay Owens. I wish I had the spoons to prioritize reading this book. On the other hand, I expect the contents would really piss me the fuck off. gougedbook.com
One option: you could "accidentally" feed them into a shredder/wood chipper and attempt to recycle them. Book paper's gotta come from *somewhere*

My current audiobook is @tkingfisher.com’s Astarion and my current ebook is @brandonsanderson.com’s Fires of Dec. the result is I now read Hoid’s narration as @neilnewbon.bsky.social’s Astarion. I think I have inadvertently altered the Cosmere and the Forgotten Realms in my head cannon. #booksky

I write a mountain of lore that all plays into itself to give a cohesive and real-feeling world. Detail is my specialty! I also produce graphic design, and video editing!
Working on a new book, I just wrote a sentence that is too funny not to share: "The purpose of tests is to find defects, not to have them." I doubt that this sentence will make it into a published version of the book.
Going over the third Itachi Shinden novel, which focuses on Sasuke, I recall reading how all three books were adapted in Shippuden. I should freshen up on those once I’m done. Not writing about Sasuke any time soon, but rather allowing myself to enjoy media with no underlying motive.
“Those windows will be the death of us when the zombies rise up,” Cal had warned. Aaron replied, “I’m pretty sure when the zombies rise up, I’ll be ready to check out anyway.” “I don’t necessarily want to join the world after a zombie apocalypse, but I don’t want to join the zombies either. I think it’s okay to have nuance with people wanting that their fics on Ao3 to be noticed by at least a few people. And yes, there are certain things you can do to improve your writing, tagging, etc. that consequently can also help you get more eyes on it as well. They’re intertwined, not separate.
