How it works

  1. Gabby Williams & Angel Reese will meet each other in this year’s Finals. 2 former Sky players who wanted to win here, who sacrificed to try and make that happened but Front Office had other plans to try to dim their light. Congrats to these 2 because clearly God had a plan.

Yesterday, Sophia Wilson called Crystal Dunn a role model as a soccer player and mother. Today, Dunn returned the compliment:

I loved watching Ditka’s Bears but I’m spending this weekend celebrating my Chicago hero John Prine, who would’ve turned 80 recently and who never palled around with fascists

I think this more or less boils down to the fact that as you construct a roster, you can’t afford to pay a backup QB. It’s an unproven freshmen or a recycled 5th year vet. If your starter goes down everyone but the blue bloods are in trouble.

  5. Both Joe Pohlad and Derek Falvey, who signed off on Derek Shelton’s hire, were out of the organization before the 2026 season started. How Shelton won over Tom Pohlad in his first season and what he learned after he was given a second chance to manage: www.startribune.com/minnesota-tw...

If I didn't believe already for Spirit reasons and USWNT reasons that Audi Field is cursed, the playing of Taylor Swift's The Life of a Showgirl (featuring Sabrina Carpenter) during the postgame has sealed it for me

After the Knicks win I thought to myself “I don’t really need anything out of sports for a while to be happy.” Since then my three teams all lost their most important player to season-ending injuries.

Big Ten Men’s Basketball Media Day gave us a preview as to how the overhaul of Northwestern’s roster gives it an upper hand in the areas in which it failed last winter. Drew Christmann breaks it down.

Two massive opportunities to take the lead in the first half from Buendia and McGinn. Brentford executing their game plan to press and disrupt, which the referee is helping them achieve more often. I don't think I need to talk too much about Mings, we can all see what happened more than once.

Oh shit, I haven't looked. Have the Flyers won yet? *checks* ... No, I don't think so. Okay, so we're on track. Cool.I'm still waiting for someone to just slap skates on Gritty and get him out there. It has to happen one of these days.

I 100% get that it's a safety issue more than anything else, but practically every other form of motorsport can operate in the rain while F1, the pinnacle of motorsport just sits there twiddling its thumbs when its wet? Also, I definitely didn't imagine all those wet races in the 90s, right?

So the focus on tiki-taka passing in training seems to have had the unintended consequence of making the difference layers feel like they don’t have to run very much all game. Thank god spurs have an even bigger finishing problem in gen we do…..

  13. i love writing about prospects because i love knowing how things work and thinking through process. i'm doing grades for prospect pools right now (look for that tomorrow) and it's like — so many of these teams' grades and places in the rankings we published in august hinge on one or two prospects

    Opinion
  14. Johan Manzambi largely operating as a right 10, aiming to create overloads down that side with McGinn and Cash. But he has already popped up on the left, so has freedom to drift across. Joao Gomes making his Villa Park debut and has to be good in finding those neat passes under pressure today. #AVFC

I see comments that the #Habs second period struggles can be attributed to the "long change" required, with defensemen on the bench far from their own end of the rink when a change is needed. The flaw in that argument is that the opponent also has a long change in the second period.

This summer marked a major reset for Marseille, but after failing to sign a single new player in the transfer window, they spent the international break in the relegation zone. Here’s my piece for @theathleticfc.bsky.social on the high-wire act at the Velodrome www.nytimes.com/athletic/767...

This revised explanation by the league seems credible. With the benefit of hindsight (or common sense), their initial statement was ill-advised (seemed like they were blaming Stewie / Liberty). Having said that, the blame still lies with the Liberty coaching staff, that's their job.

    Opinion
  19. In the PL these days, coaches work you out so quickly. We started the season playing beautiful tiki-taka with our nimble little floaty 8s, and teams have started realising they might win some duels against us with some high intensity pressing and power. Football is a constant search for balance.

On the Celtics 2 way players. Amari Williams was here last year. He remains perplexed despite the talent. The Cs see something and will keep working on him. The other 2 ways are major upgrades. Mitchell and Carter (lets hand him the open spot) are way better prospects than Shulga and Tonje.
