How it works

Here's a great protest song for Indigenous Peoples' Day tomorrow -- "Ice People," by Link Wray, an artist of Shawnee descent. It was released in 1971.

Jazz OTD: The brilliant vibraphonist Steve Nelson has led only a few albums; "Communications" is terrific, combining standards with a few originals (like this). With Mulgrew Miller (p), Ray Drummond (b), and Tony Reedus (d). No precise track dates, but the second session was Oct. 11, 1989. #Jazzsky

  3. "Nowhere Man" sounds like The #BEATLES Mod period and Psychedelic period mixed together. Very 1965/66. The 2026 remix for the newly remastered RUBBER SOUL lets you hear that bright simultaneous guitar solo from John Lennon and George Harrison in a pure way. Great lyrics, clean sound. #MusicSky

  4. Stan Lynch from The Heartbreakers, along with the Speaker Wars, recently released "High Flying Bird." This rock song is a sentimental song about Tom Petty, with lyrics written as a kind of "conversation" between Stan and Tom. It's a beautiful song and a touching tribute to his late bandmate. youtube.com/watch?v=iISk2F_LDs4 #Music, #StanLynch, #TheSpeakerWars

Avant garde trumpeter Lester Bowie would’ve turned 85 today. I’ve been pretty obsessed with Bowie and the AEOC since catching them live in the early 90s. I made this edit of Bowie & Amina Myers’ God Has Smiled On Me when I supported Sun Ra Arkestra many years ago soundcloud.com/wrongtom/les...

  6. I've never really appreciated before what a brilliant record this is. 32 years old and it absolutely stands up. Could have been made yesterday - the production is perfect.

  7. when a record label says they’re releasing a new album from one of your all-time favorites less than a year after they died, well, you’d be right to be suspicious. but after listening to it for a few days, i can recommend Todd Snider’s MY SECOND RODEO. rest in power to the bare-footed folk singer.

RIP to Stephen Jones of Severed Heads. One of the early Industrial bands and also one of the first bands I saw when they opened for Skinny Puppy. They had giant video screens showing these random images and I was totally blown away; www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVMi...

zsotd no. 658 "Rose" by Chloé Antoniotti absolute gem of an artist i stumbled on randomly today. this is a little different from my usual tastes (tho i can't help but her a bit of Lena Raine and others in there), but it's lovely either way :) i'm sharing the piece i found her with, but you should also check out her latest album, "Mana," as well as the rest of her lovely (sadly small) discography youtu.be/aY1XYf_xG0c

And that was 'Au-Turn' with "An Age Of Chance" Au-Turn are Dolan Hewison, who you may remember from New Fast Automatic Daffodils. You may also have recognised Andy Spearpoint doing vocal duties on the last track 'Waterboatman' which technically isn't on this album, but its so good I had to sneak it in. All this and more is on bandcamp, the 'Paint By Numbers' EP has four more tracks with Andy as lead singer. It's great. #listeningClub

Oof, spilled some tears at the thrilling new EDM musical THE HEART, about a race against the clock to complete a transplant. Fantastic cast, choreography, and music. One of the best new shows I've seen in a while. Here's a montage from the out-of-town La Jolla tryout: youtu.be/YSCylOv629Y

A bunch of talented bluegrass legends, including Steve Martin, turn Old Town Road into a legit roots song. There are some new lyrics in here that suggest Martin punched up the material. Trent Reznor, Lil Nas X, Billy Ray Cyrus, and now Steve Martin. What a musical path. youtu.be/a_GCX5IoCds

Originally from 2017, this had 3 cosmetic remixes, the last being in 2022. It's an #ambient piece featuring a synth and a field recording. It appears on my 2023 album "E tenebris oritur lux", and was conceived as an alternative soundtrack. "Tears in Rain" www.youtube.com/watch?v=_z8h...

  17. I mostly know them from their song "Friends of P." but I remember seeing this video maybe once so long ago. A fun song and very silly and entertaining video. Sadly, they have been very inconsistent and had a rotating membership in the band. Their last album was in 2020. #music youtu.be/VW15vdcNSSk

I've been vibing to an artist called Realecta, who calls their music "Shamanic Bass." It's like a mashup of dubstep, Nordic folk music, and throat singing, and it's kind of amazing. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQAJ...

#MusicChallenge 30 years of Ultra "Big Time." 1st listen. Forgot about this transitional album for Kool Keith with Tim Dog. Nothing too surprising here. Keyboard beats mostly by Kutmasta Kurt. The MCs are certainly outlandish but also entertaining. It's best when they team up like this one:

This track was the 4th single from Busted's self-titled debut album and reached number 3 in the UK charts. More mellow than their previous singles, it was heavily remixed for its release as a single. The frosted tips in James' and Charlie's hair were very of the time! #music #Busted #00s #poppunk
