About 2/3 of the 50,000 deaths from the summer heatwaves in Europe are attributable to climate change, say Imperial College researchers That's risen from 2/5 at the start of the century Note that heat deaths are projected to rise faster than cold deaths fall www.theguardian.com/environment/...

  2. Hot weather from relentless heatwaves killed nearly twice as many people -50k in Europe alone - as it did in each of the 2 next most dangerous years. The share of deaths due to climate breakdown has risen from c40% at the start of the century to 65% this summer www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Climate change has stopped the next Ice Age For thousands of years, Earth’s orbital cycles favoured cooler northern summers, the kind of conditions that help ice sheets grow. Then GHG emissions changed the balance reversing ~2,000 years of ice-sheet expansion. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

  6. #HeatKills: "This summer Europe experienced an estimated 50,000 heat-related deaths as high temperatures scorched the continent, making it the most deadly season for heat mortality in modern records". Which also means that *not* preparing for heatwaves is tantamount to collective suicide.

  7. Extreme heat killed more than 50,000 Europeans this summer: climate change was responsible for two-thirds of those deaths. The 2026 summer was the deadliest so far this century. This study examined records across 850 European cities. www.politico.eu/article/this...

Some of Europe’s highest energy costs expected in Britain this winter. Since privatisation UK gas storage capacity reduced to about 8 - 12 days, EU has 80 -120 days. UK is net importer of electricity. Wars, privatisation and profiteering take toll.

With scientists finding 32,000 urban heat deaths were directly caused by global warming, and over 4,300 in the UK alone, government inaction on net zero is deadly. When will ministers insulate homes, green urban infrastructure, and phase out fossil fuels? #ClimateAction

Unfortunately, the underlying daily mortality data in the US & elsewhere is nearly impossible to obtain. At least for me 🥵
