There were two games on Sunday - before Gravenberch's red card, and after it. Analysis of that, Anderson winning 8 fouls (no player on record has won more at Anfield in the Premier League), and Liverpool's start after Iraola's first defeat in charge. mreidstats.substack.com/p/lfc-v-manc...

  2. @theboytimi.bsky.social

I do not care for the people who have suddenly awakened with righteous indignation since the City verdict was decided. The evidence was in the public for more than a decade that City was a criminal enterprise but they chose to look away.

The most dangerous thing for the reputation of any league is when punters start thinking games no longer matter. Interest in a league nosedives when the title race is over. The Premier League can’t have Man City top of the table when everyone is expecting them to get relegated. It’s pointless.

The see the media are fawning over plucky Man City who have battled against adversity and remained resilient in the face of… ***checks notes*** Being found guilty of industrial levels of cheating/fraud that has allowed them to assemble a dream team of the worlds best players. So brave. So pure.

  6. @ianpatterson.com

Man City rumbles on. It’s hard to undo something like £1bn of seeming extra expenditure over a few years. But how about: a forced divestment of a net £1bn of players, with proceeds going to every club they beat in the period, proportional to # of lost matches. Bench players until sold. Payments …

  7. Beyond the individual punishment, this City verdict should be a watershed that changes how football is run in this country. Unlikely as it is, I'd love Burnham to push for a 50+1 ownership model that hands control to fans. Get rid of all states, oligarchs and hedge funds

Andoni Iraola has played down the seriousness of Dominik Szoboszlai's hamstring injury but admits the midfielder is unlikely to be passed fit for Wednesday's Champions League trip to LASK. www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/footba...

I have a theory: that football enables people, usually men, who never developed an emotional vocabulary (beyond rage) to feel things in the safety of a closed-loop system. And Man City have broken it.

    Opinion
  10. Perplexed by the coverage of City's win yesterday: all triumph-against-adversity hero stuff. The vast majority of those players signed after the league charged the club with committing a massive fraud. Did they just laugh it off; league v Abu Dhabi = no contest? I've no sympathy for them whatsoever.

    Opinion
  11. @adamlsmith.bsky.social

Yep. They’re guilty. That’s a fact. Even if they somehow win their appeal, no one will take it seriously because we all knew what they were up to even before the independent panel’s findings became public. The Premier League now has a massive credibility problem.

    Opinion
  12. @philarsopher.bsky.social

The nature of fanaticism in football means that there's no clear point of acceptance of wrongdoing. Imagine there was hard evidence of paying referees, or taking performance enhancing (or recovery-accelerating) drugs? What is the point at which the fan groups would disown it?

    Opinion
  13. @agaff.bsky.social

I have a horrible feeling that the PL will hit City hard financially but avoid the catastrophic points deductions and stripping of titles many people feel would be fair. We are in an era where blatant corruption and abuse of power is expected and, the reaction to said actions, is largely apathetic.

    Opinion
  14. @will-davies.bsky.social

Hope the Premier League will learn from the judicial tradition, that a punishment is gauged partly by whether the defendant (or maybe just *a single one of their representatives*) shows any acceptance of guilt or sense of contrition

    Opinion
  15. @domsenal.bsky.social

No surprise City, the club that lied & cheated against all of its competitors by assembling an improbably elite squad through corrupt means continues to benefit from those actions & win football matches. Until they are punished, their cheating remains justified & they drag the league into disrepute.

    Opinion
  16. @adampowley.bsky.social

Some other Citeh musings, prompted by a good BBC Five Live phone-in. Abu Dhabi have cheated Manchester City fans as well. In a sense they are also victims of this grand fraud. That won't ruin the joy of winning, the Aguero-o-o-o limbs, or the rare treat of going into a game knowing your team are

    Opinion
  17. City were found guilty of industrial scale financial cheating. So far I’ve yet to see anyone connected with City show any sign of remorse or humility. What I have seen is: •Heysel •Hillsborough •Clubs banned from Europe •Hacking •Wirtz is shit •Dudek cheated •Red cartel •Match fixing in 1915

    Opinion
  18. @glider.bsky.social

Football would benefit massively if Manchester City's penalties included a demotion to League Two (plus paying all local costs including local security.) Three years of big paydays and big thrills for clubs further down the ladder, local economies boosted, massive schadenfreude dividend.

    Opinion
  19. @foolsrushin.bsky.social

The hardest thing for the sanctions panel & PL is what to do with this season. If you expel City now you have a mess. At the end of the season and you risk them winning the title or a farce. So you give a ceremonial points reduction and that makes all their games redundant.....1/2

Today's game was prime reason as to why so many, myself included, are falling out of love with the game. Not only do city have all those charges hanging over them but then a very competitive game is ruined by a ridiculous sending off for sky to then cream themselves over city

    Opinion
  22. @doctort1992.bsky.social

I think City fans referring to their previous demise by resurrection of bananas does them credit. They were every bit as loyal as #lufc support in League 1. Their attitude does not imho endorse the owners behaviour. It reiterates that it is their club. They are, and always have been, scumlite.

    Opinion
  23. As a Rugby League fan I've no dog in the Man City fight. Did they cheat rules they agreed to? Probably. So they only have themselves to blame. But EPL is absolutely culpable. Did they think Abu Dhabi was buying City to compete on a level playing field? Hell no! They knew from the very beginning.

    Opinion
  24. @adammarrett.bsky.social

Elliot Anderson was superb in Manchester City's 3-0 win over Liverpool. On top of his performance, it was Anderson who stood up after City were on the back foot early to change the tone of the match. esteemedkompany.com/2026/10/12/a...

  25. @lawriebhoy.bsky.social

Some people say “Don’t blame the Man City players or managers, they didn’t know there was any fraud.” But. Many of these players and managers allegedly had dual contracts in order to hide their true transfer fee, wages and bonuses. So, they were complicit in the fraud and cheating. Strip them

    Opinion
  26. Armageddon awaits Man City. When the axe falls, good folk will lose their jobs through no fault of their own. Chefs, cleaners, groundsmen, etc. It's tragic, That is true. But sell your soul to the devil, And the bill comes due. Always. #MCFC

    Opinion
  27. The attitude from the City team and supporters was depressing to see. Cheats openly gloating about their false achievements & victory. And now the farce endures as City top the table. Joke league until they are gone. I hope the Premier League takes into account the brazenness of their behaviour.

    Opinion
  28. @wardlfc.bsky.social

I think the Premier League should have postponed all of Man City's games when they were found guilty. All their games are meaningless now. Plus they've won all their games so no one loses any points #lfc

    Opinion
  29. @mgeo.bsky.social

Absolute farce, the PL are in no way managing this well, if they were to be charged and loose points it should have happened before the season started. They also need to crack down on their refs, too many dodgy decisions been going on for years!

  31. I'd thought it was hyperbole to say this is a crisis for the league - and ultimately I think people will be happy to pin this on City if an appropriate punishment is finally meted out - but in this limbo period, or if City get away with it... apathy could easily take over.

    Opinion
  32. It is a very weird time in football No one wants to see the cartel clubs do well but also all the clubs that have been held back by following the rules have reason to be pissed off that City didn't and even with punishments they have the profile now to stay "big" And also the rules are shit 🤷

It's interesting to look back at the beginning stages of a project. Under 1st yr HC Yoann Damet, St. Louis City is unbeaten in 20, all comps after 6-2 rout of LAG. Here's what capt Roman Burki told me on Feb 6 for SiriusXM FC after just 3 weeks w/ the new coach. Listen👇 @stlcitysc.com

  35. Yesterday still doesn't sit well with me, the whole thing, all this build up around the obvious, for 60 minutes they were second best, within that time an incorrect yellow was given then the second was given incorrectly also, the game changed from that point Then after it Sky are kissing...

    Opinion
  36. @fplgoosiero.bsky.social

The way City players were milking the win suggests that they think they were the ones wronged, not all that suprising considering the club's attitude. From a strict fpl perspective, their assets will likely continue to score well and astute managers will embrace the big ugly bunch a flippin cheats 🪿

    Opinion
  37. @runcorn.bsky.social

My overriding emotion today is sadness. Ive seen City when they were rubbish and enjoyed the ride over the now asterisk years. It needs sorting and quick because this wont work like this . The fans of all clubs deserve closure at whatever verdict is eventually reached.

    Opinion
  38. @davewolinski.bsky.social

The mask has fully dropped hasn’t it, the reporting on the City fans is beyond absurd. This “it’s the owners not the club we take issue with” fully out the window because the away supporters *checks notes* had fun? Still waiting to read an actual alternative too, just pious shite and head shaking.

    Opinion
  39. @pnamblath.bsky.social

Drury and Neville sympathising with the wonderful bunch of Man City fans, and the team, none of the blame is on them Have you ever heard such bullshit??? The PL credibility and reputation are thrashed until City are punished #LIVMCI

    Opinion
  40. @msyellowhat.bsky.social

I keep thinking about City’s attitude yesterday & I really hope their arrogance and lack of contrition is taken into account when sanctions are finally given. You can argue the players on the pitch blah blah but unfortunately for them every single one of them is complicit. Those titles mean nothing

    Opinion
  41. @christoronyi.bsky.social

Say (when) they receive a hefty points deduction, what of the results this season? Sure they've lost points, but their cheating will have impacted champions league places and even relegation. The incoming points deduction this season isn't enough.

    Opinion
  42. @bradsked.bsky.social

Still annoyed at yesterday. I can take losing. I expected it. On paper they have the much better side. That's not what's annoyed me as much. To offer no real fight or desire to get back into the game against 10 men against your rivals is absolutely shameful stuff.

    Opinion
  43. @nufcsoprano.bsky.social

Man City cheated with money manipulation. The traditional big 6 are cheating by not allowing others to invest to recognise ambition. It's all cheating and should be recognised as such.

    Opinion

looking at fixtures, and from 24 november, when we host borussia dortmund until 16 january, when we travel to hull, every single fixture is in the city of london.

If they insist on having the south coast derby on a Sunday then I think the Monday after should legally be a bank holiday for sotonians (work is a struggle today)

    Opinion
  46. Going to be interesting listening to the football podcasts this morning trying to get the balance between how good City are and how meaningless this now all is I suspect that last weekend might have been as good as it gets for the competition No saving this season unfortunately
