I am grateful I came out 14 years ago (15 come January?!), the stakes were lower but didn't seem that way. Anyone coming out today is remarkably brave. I saw some queer comedians last night who had hilarious takes on staying in the closet to earn a check. Nobody has/gets to live your life but you.

Doing some arithmetic here on National Coming Out Day, and apparently 2026 – 2001 = 25, which means that today marks 25 years since I first told a friend that I’m gay. Total accident that it happened on NCOD, which I don’t even think I knew was a thing until he pointed it out in his email reply. 🏳️🌈
Here's a late entry for National Coming Out Day: A quick review of how far queers have come since the bad old days when teenagers spit on us in the street, cops helped bash queers, and our elected reps called us vile names on the floor of Congress. howtobeamerican.substack.com/p/a-queer-hi...
It's apparently National Coming Out Day. The first person I came out to was my ex. I was 25: One night, she was mad at me for mentioning how I thought Misato and Kaji's relationship in Evangelion was cute. She didnt think they had "real love" and was mad that I liked them together. She told me to
It's National Coming Out Day so its the 12 anniversary of me coming out as gay. It's a little weird to say it was a whim for why I did it that day (had planned to by my 30th birthday the following year) but despite all the ups and downs, I am happier not hiding that part of me.
Indivisible ATL is grateful to all the Indivisible ATL, @necessarytroublega.bsky.social, and @indivisiblega10.bsky.social members who showed up for LGBTQ+ Georgians today to march in Atlanta Pride. No kings! Only queer joy!
Happy National Coming Out Day from your favorite white neurodivergent disabled chronically ill Jewitchy polyamorous Leather fat nonbinary femme with U.S. citizenship privilege. You should not *have* to be out AND you should be *able* to be out about any of your identities. [📸: William Hohe]
"This city used to claim that it was queer-friendly." A police raid on Taipei's Commander D sparked LGBTQ protests after 51 patrons were taken in for questioning and the owner was arrested.
I remember being a young kid, in Texas w/ a religious family, when I saw a docu on Matthew Shepard. It was devastating, it made me scared for many years to even accept my sexuality. Such a heartbreaking incident and sad to know almost 40 years later we still have so much hate in the LGBTQ+ community
October 11, 1987 - More than half a million people flooded Washington, D.C., demanding civil rights for gay and lesbian Americans, now celebrated each year as National Coming Out Day. #NCOD #NationalComingOutDay #COD 1/3
I remember being a kid and watching Oprah when she did the first coming out day special. I was in high school, and had just lost my favorite uncle to AIDS. I cried and cried. And then I came out the next year. Sending good vibes to anyone who feels like it’s time for them!
Actually, talking about my pre-transition life feels like coming out as well, because it always comes attached to my deadname. I do talk about it fairly openly, especially since a lot of it is relevant to my career history, but it does have a different feel about it.
My oldest came to to me this afternoon and asked if I was going to post a joke on Bluesky for Basically Coming Out Day. But I think instead of doing that I'll just say how much I love my brave beautiful kid who's come out as trans and is still sorting out what that means for them. I'm so blessed.
apparently it's "national coming out day" in the US atm so let me take this chance to say that I much prefer the idea of "inviting in" to "coming out" - it is not on anyone to disclose their queerness and assuming a lack thereof is simply someone making a false assumption, and not my responsibility
it's national coming out day is complicated. because i don't think "coming out" has anything to do with the person who is leading a non-hetero life, but more so making others comfortable by being able to put someone in a box.
Coming Out Day! Heya Hiya! I'm transfem, pansexual, and lesromantic. Coming out is scary, but living as your true self will make you the happiest you've ever been. If you aren't safe to do it, then I hope you can find a way to make it safe. You deserve joy and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Coming Out Day! I am, of course, out already, but I shan’t miss a chance to be Visible. I’m transgender! I also use transsexual, I like that one. I’m bi! And a lesbian! I claim both of those! I’m polyamorous! I argue that’s a queer identity as well. I’m hot! I rock! I’m Larabella: queer babe. ♥️
Someone asked me how I came out to my family. "You know how Glenn is trans? Well, I'm on HRT the other way, and it's working out well. I'm going to have to tell other people eventually, and I'm worried they'll be bigoted, so I could use your help and support as a trans ally when I do. Sound good?"
I've been out for 50 years this year. 😮 I suppose that gives me some perspective, so I recorded a few notes today for National Coming Out Day. "Old gay guy observations on National Coming Out Day. Be aware that once you tell someone that you're not cisgender heterosexual, you lose control of that
happy coming out day to everyone but most importantly happy anniversary to this timeless Facebook post from college era Izzy who was definitely the best ally in the world and all her queer friends were definitely not a sign
Apparently it’s National Coming Out Day; to everyone who has been musing on their identity today, I love you! This year I am thinking particularly about how (for me!) being pregnant = gender euphoria, being called “mama”/mom = gender dysphoria. So….*gestures vaguely* whatever the hell that means
When I think about "coming out" stuff, I think a lot about how I came out to my mom and stepfather, which is to say it wasn't "okay I've been working up to this and I'm gonna do it & be proud" it was "i am going to lose my shit, be unable to take another second, blurt out shit, and run to my room"
For National Coming Out Day, a big shoutout to an old coworker of mine who I ran into for the first time in months yesterday. I called them out by their name, but they corrected me and said it is Valerie now! So congratulations to her now! I wish her the best in her transition!
I should expand on this: They're glad I'm not doing anything right away, and they're concerned for me in the social aspects in the caring way. They haven't told anyone else and they won't (I asked them not too). They're allies with Gen X concerns.
Hard to come out when you were never in, but Hi, Happy Coming Out Day! I'm queer/bi/pan/whatever. I have latched my heart to people of multiple genders and naughty-bit configurations, with varying degrees of legal recognition. I still love every one of them, and I don't have to choose.
It’s National Coming Out day so let it be formally declared I am a nonbinary trans person, and also asexual & aromantic - huzzah! (I’ve been out for about decade in various capacities so this isn’t exactly the hottest news but I keep missing the specific awareness days)
Its National Coming Out day, and if you didn't know: I'm Gay, Poly-amorous, and so very tired. I also believe that Trans Rights are essential to the queer rights movement, your AI poster is ugly and you're stupid for making it, and no one is illegal on stolen land. (pic: baby me at pride)
I worked up the courage to say those words and come out aloud to my first person many years ago on this very day. I only found out afterwards that I had done the deed on National Coming Out Day, and I was mortified to realize what a cliche I was. This began my career as a practicing homosexual.
For the record, I'm still cis but taking some pronouns for a spin. Long story short, I haven't felt 'me' since I started working fulltime, and I had an inkling there was something 'gender' about it, but later figured it was actually expression specifically.
Today was National Coming Out Day. So today I say once again, I am a transgender woman who is attracted to other women. Four years ago I made a social media post to friends and family announcing I was trans. I’d already spent the year before that struggling with the realization and accepting it.
National coming out day and I have mixed feelings. I grew up in an era where coming out was easier but I still faced very vicious homophobia from my family and others. But me being able to come out so early is a gift. Yet I know people who still face their sexuality like they’re in the dark ages.
So it's National Coming Out Day, and I have several intersecting identities, most of which I've been out about for over a decade now, but the most recent one is that I am altersex. I wrote about it back in January: riverside-wings.com/2026/01/05/t...
National coming out day? The first person I told I was bi was confused because they thought I was already open. The second person was my mom, and she just looked back at the tv and casually said, “yeah I had a feeling.”
Today is Coming Out Day. I’d never give anyone advice on when/whether to come out — it’s a personal decision. I will say I support folks regardless of where they fall on the spectrum of sexuality and gender. However you choose to present yourself to the world, I’ll back you.
I know there's a lot of arguments on the web about Bisexual Vs Pansexual. I tend to use Pan because I find that gender doesn't matter that much. If I'm attracted to you, I'm attracted to you, regardless of your gender presentation.
Happy coming out day to all! Coming out of the closet is something we do for ourselves, but it is also an act of immense kindness to all. Everyone lives better in a world where everyone feels free to live as their authentic selves. Without others coming out, I would never have found myself.
Oh, hey! It's National Coming Out Day! Did you know I was a big ol' tranny queer? IT'S TRUE! If you can safely come out, I encourage you to do so -- normalizing queerness can only make everyone happier and safer. If you can't, know we all love you and support you. You do what's best for you!
I never fully "came out," as bi. I've mentioned it offhandedly to my parents, and obviously I'm not shy about it in furry realms, but it's not something I've shared widely. Partly because it's nobody's business but mine, but there's also still part of me that's uncomfortable with it being out there.
My coming out story isn’t exciting. I was in my 30s when i accepted my bisexuality but most of my friends had always known. When I told my mum she asked why that was a thing, didn’t people just love who they loved. When I told my dad he ignored me which is not bad for an Egyptian in his 70s.
I came out as trans, furry, and with a boyfriend to my stepmom the same day. She was actually really curious and asked a bunch of questions and even went with me to a furry convention. Told my dad that I had a boyfriend and had them meet, but I'm never telling him that I'm trans or furry.
Happy National Coming Out Day! It's only my third! And point of fact, I nearly chose it as my actual coming out day instead of 9/9 but I was afraid I'd lose momentum if I waited. It was a long road but the short story is that I spent a... (1/3) #Gay #Queer #LGBTQ #ComingOut #ComingOutDay
National Coming Out Day 2026 Today is a day of reflection and understanding. Coming Out is a deeply personal journey and decision. There is no 'right' timeline. You decide what is right for you and do not let anyone tell you otherwise. #NationalComingOutDay2026
I mean I never technically came out. Everyone just kinda knew. I'm Trobs. I'm queer. Call me whatever you'd like, but please, the name is Trobs. That's like the extent of it I guess. As more than a few friends have said. I'm a amorphous gender creature not seeking definition.
It's National Coming Out Day! I've come out a fair few times over the past 12 years, but I am ALWAYS happy to let others know: I am TRANS! Yay! I am PANSEXUAL! (Kitchens beware! :3) And I am NOT ASHAMED of being who I am! www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xMv...
Today is National Coming Out Day. I wish I could come out to my parents and get it over with 😔. If you have parents who accept who you are, don't ever miss the chance to tell them how proud you are of them. ❤️
It's apparently National Coming Out Day and I will repeat that I am bisexual every chance I get because my ex made me sleep on the couch for almost a week after I was outed and my stupid ass stayed with him for 2 more years.
Hollis and Rowhan want to wish everyone a happy #comingoutday 🌈 If you are still not ready, that’s okay! Know you matter! Your life is yours and you can live it as open, or not open as you want! For me, coming out was scary and hard but things are so much better with time! Hang on to your rainbow!
I forgot this was today. In case you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m bisexual, non-binary, I have an asymmetrical haircut, and I really like public transit.
It's National Coming Out Day, and life got so much better when I accepted that I'm queer and nonbinary. If you're not ready yet, that's okay. You're still valid, and I love you. 💜
Before National Coming Out Day comes to an end, I just want to say to every struggling gay bi lesbian trans queer follower I have: I know it will sound trite, but it does get better. Life will reward you for what you're going through right now. Find your people. Don't give up.
