It's really not hard to just not use things, I stopped using Twitter in like 2020 or so, I don't use insta or facebook or tiktok at all, I'm only really here because it's got trans people and sportsball posting...

  2. @motorcityadam.com

The owner of X, and its most-followed individual, posts extremely hateful and racist content near-daily. Seems pretty dishonest to not even acknowledge that and how, outside of your personal feed and outside your lived experience, it may be significantly harming people that you do not see.

  3. I run a science communication consulting business. I built it on Twitter. Since Musk took over, it’s been professionally unusable and unpleasant. Getting off of there has been an easy ethical and professional choice.

  4. @alexwinter.com

I agree with this, but it’s astonishing that we’re still having this conversation. Musk’s X is the losers lunch-table, occupied only by Nazis and try-hard desperados.

gruber's latest glazing of twitter is embarrassing tbh i feel like morals are really worth more than reading what people who are comfortable posting on the nazi website where people make child porn someone who is comfortable with that, i simply do not need or want to hear from

Everytime I go on Twitter (it's not called X), I always end up wanting to kill myself because of what's allowed there these days. Twitter is full of facists, bigots, pedophiles, and AI bullshit. You can keep your pro-ICE and pro-CSAM hellsite. I'm good.

Is this one of those whimsical tech CEO posts you're telling me I'll see on X now?

  8. Another Apple ecosystem tech bro (bore surely? - Ed.) laying the groundwork for using X again. Or justifying it after the fact. I don’t read Daring Fireball. I stopped due to the ill-informed articles about the EU a while back. Haven’t missed anything meaningful by not reading it. 👋🏻

I don’t know the dude who wrote the “Twitter is actually good again” blog well enough to know if it was supposed to be satire or not, but based on the general response to it I would say that he missed the mark, whatever his intention was.

We have actual data that proves Twitter is mostly bots nowadays but you're still gonna see a whole bunch of people go "but my audience". Motherfucker, what audience ? At least 60% of them are literally fake.

I check on nitter every now and then to check up on accounts that are either less active on bsky or don't post here at all. and this is PURELY gaming accounts. yeah I don't buy this ngl. can't say anything about algorithms and feeds but in the replies of those posts it's still an absolute nightmare

So you're gonna be a single issue voter regarding trans folks in sports (which is practically non existent anyway) and yet you have no concern about the INSANE betting markets that are permeating throughout American Sports Culture which is far more damaging than a trans girl playing volleyball.

I do think Tech Twitter is a real thing that feels close to what it once felt like And maybe it’s true that if you’ve curated your algorithm it doesn’t dump politics and anger into your feed But my experience on there *is* getting fed rage and conservative crap

  14. @rachelfisher.bsky.social

Honestly the last time Twitter was fun was when Trump got Covid and that was one moment on a site that hadn’t really been fun for years. Peak Twitter was 2011-2016. Then it mostly sucked shit.

  15. @sophiahelix.bsky.social

listen MY Twitter timeline was always good, except for the people retweeting nonstop bad news, but I left because if I ever stepped a foot out of my corner there was so much bigotry and badness I just decided I could live without whatever fun stuff I was reading and the people who would never leave

  16. @hydevoltyge.bsky.social

"The culture on X today is remarkably friendly and inclusive. It is a cheerful place." It's the most miserable place I've ever seen online even besides the bigotry. I get far more of most of my interests by being on here. I don't get as angry or stressed or generally on edge from the rancor there.

    Opinion
  17. @jayreding.bsky.social

I do not understand why someone would stay on X, knowing that it is deliberately structured to feed you fascist content *even if you have zero interest in it.* To put it bluntly, X is intended to brainwash you - what “content” is worth that? I’d rather have no social media at all!

    Opinion
  18. @moxiest.art

"I see more interesting posts on X than I do on Threads, Bluesky, and Mastodon combined." follow better accounts. "I looked at my feed of mostly tech people, notable politicians, and news-adjacent personalities and I'm bored as fuck."... yeah, no shit find some freaks.

    Opinion
  19. @danarel.com

Where he's right: Bluesky, Threads, Mastodon, are all basically dead sites. I know my posts aren't mass consumption, but zero engagement makes coming here useless, and the algorithm is terrible. Where he's wrong: X is still the worst of them and supporting X is direct support of a Nazi.

    Opinion
  20. @freeirony.bsky.social

The thing is, the longer Im away from X the more I realize that it really doesnt matter. "But more people post there! But thats where a lot of companies post first and maybe only" Shit works it's way through the system really quickly nowadays and people who are only on X arent trustworthy anyway.

As soon as ol mate Saffa Elon took over I was part of the great and heroic Kiwi diaspora. Account nuked. Never looked back.

  22. @cypheroftyr.bsky.social

Same. I was close to cracking 50K, was legitimately verified (not a bough blue check) and I haven’t regretted locking it and walking off from it; at all.

  23. @nopassaran.bsky.social

I left Facebook years ago never looked back it was super easy despite all their slimy attempts to get me to log back on Twitter was even easier, it’s not that hard

  24. It’s genuinely upsetting we cannot figure out how as a society how to organize a collective action boycott of X for this reason (as well as all the Nazi posting, which is disqualifying too imo). Just consider how many Democratic politicians are still active on there! That shouldn’t be happening!

    Opinion
  25. @starshark.bsky.social

The argument is that X is a cool and chill place to post now. Even assuming that’s correct (I’m skeptical), it ignores the larger problem of it lining the pockets of a murderous nazi. But well done addressing the less-important issue.

    Opinion
  26. @mekka.mekka-tech.com

No one is angry at you. If you enjoy X, then be on X. If you like Trump, then vote for Trump. It's 2026. We're past scolding people. Just know that when the "Elon mistreated me!🤡" Or "But Mr. Trump, I voted for you!🤡" comes, there won't be any sympathy. There may even be a few laughs.

  27. @patrickwyman.bsky.social

When I posted something on X after a break someone immediately called me a race traitor. Posts about ancient history inevitably end up in race science territory. So I’m sorry, but I wouldn’t call that a friendly place. Is there an audience? Yes. I don’t want to sift through shit to talk to people.

Just saw an exchange where someone insisted that being on Twitter/X doesn't change how anyone thinks or behaves, and when asked to explain why they brought this up they said "Well, I don't know why someone with as many followers as you would care what I think..."

    Opinion
  29. @anildash.com

I (probably obviously) disagree with John's POV here, but let's grant that all of what he says is true, and that X is good in all the ways listed in the post; let's even grant that's true for all demographics (it's not). It'd *still* be a site that pays known CSAM distributors at its owner's behest.

I don’t get why some people feel the need to run a full court press on Back To Twitter. It’s always Twitter too, there’s never a Back To MySpace movement. If you like hanging out there in a cesspool of racists and nazis, just do it and shut up. No need to bother the rest of us with it

    Opinion
  31. @mayorseidel.bsky.social

Posting on Bluesky is like being cringe in your late 30s or 40s using outdated slang and getting embarrassingly excited when they go out. Posting on X is like being creepy in your late 30s or 40s and still going to parties at frat houses.

    Opinion
  32. @zenofdesign.com

While I think the anti-AI sentiment on Bluesky is often ludicrously overblown, I would still much rather be on the site that is ‘we have reasons to be skeptical about this technology’ than the site that is ‘LOL let’s all make Nazi CSAM revenge porn’. That might just be me.

people forget when comparing bluesky to x that 2007-11 on twitter, the was little to no “action”. it takes time for new social media platforms to build up and retain users. people like this guy are not willing to put in time to rebuild an audience again, but don’t have the balls to admit that

  35. I logged back into my old twitter account (where I followed a lot of comic and horror creators), and this is what x dot com is recommending to me: racism, xenophobia, misogyny, and misinformation. This doesn’t include the White House and stephen miller posts being promoted.

  36. Not using X/Twitter is like the easiest thing you can do. I left that joint so fast a few years ago I forgot to nuke my 2008 era account and now I don’t even remember the login or password and I probably should just to clean up but ya know.
