Bioware made some of the games that made me want to study games. I published my very first game studies paper on Mass Effect. They were not perfect but I know how their stories meant a lot to people and communities. Not a lot of my students remember their games but I certainly won't make them forget
Bioware was woke before woke was a thing. Baldurs gate 1 and 2 ignore the ruleset having female/male gender differences. Unsure if 2 had same-sex relationships but I know Dragon Age did. They were making Fox News flip out in 2007.

I think one of my first "I might be good at these" moments for games, was seeing people comment on Mass Effect 2's final mission... I had no issues, felt the choices were obvious based on the crew members strengths and personalities but I'd seen so many people talk about struggling a lot with it

BioWare did kinda save western rpgs twice, first with Baldurs Gate after the ultima style went out of vogue and again with Mass Effect by making something that was dumb enough that Xbox owners could play it without reading anything
I meant to include this in my original post, but for as much as I like Townfall it has this pretty obnoxious screen-flicker effect on the CRTV that I imagine could be a problem for some people. The ingame screen replicates the flashing static you'd see on a CRT, and it can be pretty intense.
I guess what makes me sad is that I grew up on Star Trek, and while both Star Trek and Mass Effect had their flaws, ME engaged and drew me in in an interactable format. The Angara are legit one of my favorite alien species from any IP and I knew I'd never get to see them again, but now it's Real.

i hope i’m not a broken record over bioware but i also need y’all to understand that i truly fell in love with both mass effect and dragon age and they shaped my view of storytelling in games and gave me the push to be a writer seriously. i will forever be grateful for that.

The Mass Effect trilogy gets a lot of shit these days, but it was my Bioware series and I will always have a special place in my heart for the characters. Genuinely sad to see so much talent poured into the grinder for nothing.

Femshep is the definitive choice and what I always recommend to anyone new who wants to play Mass Effect. Same with Female V voiced by Cherami Leigh.

It is a shame that this was the final game in the series to be directed by the late creator but for what it’s worth, he definitely went all out with this game.

Not watching the leaked Mass Effect 4 trailer that they put together for N7 day because I don't want to know what could have been, only to know it was stolen away by Trump's loser son-in-law and an investment fund run by a kingdom that by all rights should have its royal family executed en masse.
