I don't think Ultima I can have been the *first* videogame I played, given I was aged nine when the Ultima Trilogy version I owned for the Apple IIe came out, but it feels like the first, and eventually beating it (without any kind of FAQ or hintbook) felt like a huge achievement.

Pitfall on Atari. This pixelated adventure tapped into my sense of wonder as profoundly as any work of art since.
Pong on a dedicated pong console (would play several variations). Night driver. The original with no visible car. Asteroids. I sucked at it but loved the levels with the neutron star.
Bubsy The Bobcat, for the SNES. It’s a crap game, if you’re an adult with goals like beating the game. But if you’re a kid and just wanna jump around a lot and watch Woolies and Bubsy alike get booboos? This is your jam.
Ms. Pac-Man in its cocktail table format at the barbeque restaurant in my hometown The last time I was home (which was fifteen years ago now) the table was still there and still working
Night Driver on the Atari of a friend of my mom's. I was like 3 and barely remember it, but the white lines stood out so starkly against the black screen that it kinda etched a point in to my memory.
“disney’s aladdin” <3 but i doubt i came to scenes like below, i was way too small and probably kept dying even before encountering any goons. this was on my father’s pc Name the first video game you played.
Oh my goodness, it's been so many years I can't be sure. It may have been a combo Pong/light gun TV game my neighbors across the street had, circa 1976? I don't think my first was an actual arcade machine, but that followed with great haste, I'm positive.
Best I can remember, it was either Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt on the NES, or possibly Pac-Man on the Atari 2600.
My first video game that I remember playing was Donkey Kong 64. It was the year 2000 and my cousin was sleeping over my house, he rented the game from Blockbuster and we played it on my dad's N64. He left the cartridge at my house and never returned it, I still have it to this day.
Name the first videogame you played. I'm not sure but it's almost certainly one of The Hobbit Below the Root Asteroids Centipede
Can’t remember if it was Pong, Asteroids, Space Invaders, or Pac-Man. Pong was on the keyboard computer at home which hooked up to the TV. The others were in the laundromat. Hell, there was even one of those table screen Pac-Man or Ms. Pac-Man games.
Either Pong or some text-based adventure. I’m older than videogames, so whatever it was, it was quite primitive. “Open the door” “Not understood” “Open door” “It is locked” “Unlock door” “Not understood” “ARGH” “Not understood”
Space Invaders Weirdly, at the local church. Which for reasons unknown - had a machine (I am no longer religious, but still worship gaming - go figure)
the game with the bouncing balls that you drew lines to close into smaller and smaller spaces - i played it on my grandparents' home computer in the early to mid 90s
Donkey Kong… for IntelliVision.
Definitely not the first videogame I played, but the first that became a core memory was Bubble Bobble on AMIGA 500.
i think it was a phonics game about long and short vowels played on one of those computers that only have one color. the most important early game for me was this one though archive.org/details/worl...
Genuinely way too far back for me to know for sure, but I believe it was the Genesis version of Earthworm Jim emulated on Kega Fusion.
Truth is, we don't know for sure. My dad insists that he held 2-year old me up to the controls of Donkey Kong in an arcade... but Donkey Kong came out when I was 4. Pac-Man or Space Invaders was more likely the first.
Space Wars coin-op in a Seattle Fred Meyer store. There are too few quarter-eating games in department stores these days.
Some part of me vaguely remembers playing a Smurfs game, for the Atari I believe. I'm going to say Super Mario Bros. as one of them for sure though. We had the three pack with this, Duck Hunt, and Track and Field. So honestly, it could have been any of the three of them.
🖊️ Super Mario Bros for the Nintendo Entertainment System on my dad's 32 inch RCA TV that some how weighed almost as much as my dad did.
I think it was Sabotage for the Apple II. I played in monochrome, unlike this screenshot.
I think it might have been "Combat" on a friend's Atari 2600, but the first video game that I owned was "Star Raiders" for the Atari 800.
Oh geez, probably the original NES (my dad’s, growing up in the mid-90s). It’s a toss-up between Super Mario Bros., Duck Hunt and/or EXCITEBIKE.
I rember playing this at the daycare my mom would drop me off at as she left for work
If this counts, my brother and I wore it out.
This might be the most I've ever aged myself on here...
6 years old. Changed my life forever 💕 I distinctly remember naming all of my team members "So Cute" "Sooo Cute" "Sooooo Cute" and the way I told them apart was the number of o's 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
Pong. Pretty sure it was in a Sears, so possibly a display model for the home version they sold in 1975.
Sonic 3 is my introduction to video games. But it's also my first introduction to the Sonic franchise as a whole
Not sure if it's the "first" first... but it's the first I vividly remember playing - Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped!
I have vague memories of breaking a Sega Master System trying to put a Genesis game in it
Man it’s been YEARS since I’ve played this. Vs Hedlok, Name Redacted, and DNA Lab are my favs from this one.
If you are old enough, there is only one answer. Pong.
I'm sure everyone else is saying this, but it doesn't make it less right... or less great.
QTP with a video game that transports you back to your childhood ⏳
Scarab of Ra, on a Macintosh SE
The real answer is probably lost to time, probably some arcade game. But the earliest game memory I have is of playing Combat on an Atari 2600 sometime time in 1987 or 1988. I got my NES Christmas 1989, so I didn't have the Atari long (not even sure what happened to it, it was just disappeared.)
Pong, and it was on a black and white TV…I never knew it was in color.
First I remember was either one of these:
Tanks by Atari, if it wasn't Pong, Pac Man, or Space Invaders.
It wasn’t actually Pong, I think it was a knock-off. I think. Maybe supposedly more tennis-like? It was a long time ago, ok?
Legend of Zelda. Hooked immediately, would not leave my parents alone until they bought me my own NES.
There’s probably a good 10 Nintendo games that could possibly be my real answer. But best guess is that it was OG Mario.
Pong on my parents atari when i was a kid. They bought it cause they loved playing pong at the bar they'd met at shortly before having birth to me
I probably played something else earlier, but this was a lot of my second grade memories. Especially coming back to the classroom and having our color vision all screwed up thanks to the monochrome green screens on those Apple II computers.
I'm pretty sure it was Scooby-Doo Night of 100 Frights
I'm certain it was actually the Popeye game on my dad's Atari 2600, but gifs of that don't seem to exist. Donkey Kong is definitely another one, though, and it was way better. So
