    This simple composition was made with a small FF mirrorless camera, 21mm lens, and travel tripod during a short hike. I didn't have any ND filters with me, so ended up having to shoot this in the bright midday light at f/8. That yields too much DoF to allow focus to separate the tree from the background. But fortunately there was just enough haze to reduce the contrast of the distant hills a bit, yielding a high contrast subject with a lower contrast background. So it worked out in the end.

    A spring day with the pond looking nice.

    Immediate foreground is a cluster of irises sporting a couple of purple flowers. Beyond that are pond with lots of water lilly leaves, no flowers yet. Further away is a house with a terracotta tile roof (that's the colour, the tiles are concrete). Further back are green trees against a blue sky.

    Cameras and infrastructure bring us amazing images from Glacier National Park, as this sunset view of Lake McDonald from last night reveals. Many thanks to the National Park Service and the Glacier National Park Conservancy staff members for all of their work. As for the image, deep blues, reds, and purples fill the sky and are reflected on the lake’s calm surface. On closer look, the band of red is made up of whites, pinks, oranges, and so on, all floating above the distant mountains that make up the backdrop to this view. In the foreground, the dock on the lower left reaches out to the colorful reflections, while the forested shorelines on the right and left show off a bit of the remaining sunlight in the form of green and tan trees. Wonderful!

    “Mono Lake, Earth Shadow, Clouds” — Mono Lake, evening clouds, earth’s shadow above the horizon. A few clouds drifted east from the Sierra crest and held together long enough to occupy the sky above Mono Lake at sunset.
