There was a Hercules vs the Amazons movie, I think, and young Ulysses saw something. Hercules says "Ulysses! Tell me that story again!" So Tom Servo says, "OK, ahem... 'Stately, plump Buck Mulligan came from the stairhead...'" The other people I was with had no idea why I was laughing so hard.

"I'm gruff and tough and not ready to be loved!" It's a funny riff and it's such a beautifully succinct shorthand for a familiar character archetype.
