#LetterboxdFriday WARD [Yugoslavia] Kafkaesque made-for-TV Eastern bloc horror about a man being pursued by another. A bit like It Follows, except nothing whatsoever like It Follows ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ THE VELVET UNDERGROUND 🇺🇸 Todd Haynes put so much creativity into his film that there was evidently none left for the title ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ROSE 🇩🇪 🇦🇹 Sandra Hüller puts in another excellent performance as a 17th century woman trying to living her life disguised as a man, because 'there's more freedom in trousers.' ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ANGUISH 🇪🇸 The film-within-a-film structure is genuinely brilliant, but this somehow doesn't fly as high as it should ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ #LastFourWatched

#22 The Grudge (2002) A little bit of a palette cleanser before we finish out the month with the remaining Hammer films on my agenda. At its best, mostly at the beginning and end, this is a great example of doing a lot with a little: black and white body paint, lighting, creepy vocal fry and physical performances. Unfortunately, it can't sustain this across a full 80 minutes, and in particular a "ghost schoolgirl" vignette in the middle really kills the tension.
I can’t remember how many years it’s been since I’ve been this excited for a movie release. Seriously. It might go back to when I was a kid and Never-Ending Story was about to become the first big movie I watched where I had read the novel first. And I love that it’s set here in the general neighborhood. #Wildwood #Laika #Movies #PNW #Oregon #Portland #Seattle youtu.be/jvz_V5Spht4?is=Rfmfar…
Last night's movie watch was just the sort of thing I was seeking for spooky season viewing. Ghosts but did not take itself too seriously. Low budget and all but I appreciated it - YMMV. #Gay #Queer #Movies #Films #QueerFilms #SpookySeason
