Feh--frustrating. I keep seeing this dialog, and keep clicking 'Upgrade...' and nothing keeps happening. #ubuntu

Ubuntu 26.10 introduces a new Add-ons page within its App Center, designed to handle restricted media codecs and proprietary hardware drivers. The feature assists users who skipped initial opt-in during installation or set up offline. It also centralizes the Additional Drivers tool for managing proprietary hardware like NVIDIA GPUs and select Wi-Fi cards following the earlier removal of the Software and Updates tool. en.hacks.gr/to-ubuntu-26-10-fe… #Ubuntu #Linux #OpenSource #Drivers

Tired of your Ubuntu 26.04 machine getting a new IP address every time it reconnects? A static IP keeps it predictable, so SSH, file sharing, and local services stop breaking. This guide walks through setting one up step by step, and explains when a static address is worth the effort (and when it isn't, like on most laptops). geekrewind.com/how-to-set-up-a… #Ubuntu #Linux #OpenSource #Networking #SelfHosted

Canonical has begun building official riscv64 desktop images for Ubuntu 26.10. Experimental ISOs are now available for testing on SpacemiT K3 boards, featuring both standard GNOME and minimal Xubuntu desktop options. Developers note these builds are currently experimental and carry no official support yet. While server images have existed for years, preinstalled desktop options mark a new step for RISC-V hardware. en.hacks.gr/i-canonical-fernei… #Ubuntu #RISCV #Linux #OpenSource

Today marks the release of Ubuntu 10.10, a.k.a. the first Linux distro I ever tried, proper. It's probably because I was 13 at the time, but it really felt like Linux was on the up back then. We had Compiz, we had Wubi for installing via Windows, GNOME wasn't going all weird and insular...

In my middle school's computer lap a computer was using Ubuntu 8.04 and I always liked using it because it was different. A little later I got the 10.4 dvd through ship it to use on a old laptop which I used that. When I fully abandoned Windows in 2020 I used Fedora and later CachyOS to this day

An observation: -- posts about "wayland," and -- posts about "ubuntu" Regardless of whether they refer to the display protocol (as opposed to, say, Wayland, MA) or the distro (as opposed to the philosophy for which the distro is named), ALWAYS shows up on my Linux feed. God, I love Bluesky! 🥰

Technically Fedora, but I didn't like whatever version it was and quickly ditched it & hopped around until I landed on Debian. Stuck with Debian for maybe 3 or 4 years.

Search looks through the last 36 hours of public posts for your words, "exact phrases", #hashtags, @handles and websites, and also finds posts about the same thing by meaning. New posts join about every 10 minutes. We only include posts whose authors allow logged-out viewing (Bluesky) or search (Mastodon, indexable accounts), and we re-check Bluesky authors each time we show a page. Likes and follower counts never decide the order. For meaning matches, query text is turned into a fingerprint on Wildroot’s own server (EmbeddingGemma-300M); it is never sent to another service. Wildroot does not save query text to disk. Looking for posts like one you have? Similar posts. How to opt out.
