Finally digging into local SF and CA state ballot endorsements. There's some truly bad San Francisco local initiatives on the ballot in November. If we allocate seven ministerial seats on this outcome by D’Hondt, it’s 3 for SF and one each for the DUP, UUP, Alliance and SDLP. Only two Unionists out of seven. But the 3rd SF is very tight with the 2nd DUP; and one less MLA for the SDLP would mean one more ministerial place for the rest.

  3. Many people are asking me for ballot recommendations, so welcome to the first edition of Dean’s List. Amidst the attempted hostile takeover of San Francisco, there are candidates and ballot measures that offer us hope for a better, more compassionate, and more affordable SF. Vote by November 3!

  4. Good thread. I had stories in F&SF and Asimov's. I sold two more to F&SF, but probably the best thing is to withdraw them - they're good, so they may well find a home elsewhere.

If there’s a valid criticism of online progressives overhyping regular things that Zohran Mamdani does in NYC, it absolutely applies to centrists doing the same with Daniel Lurie in SF

Search looks through the last 36 hours of public posts for your words, "exact phrases", #hashtags, @handles and websites, and also finds posts about the same thing by meaning. New posts join about every 10 minutes. We only include posts whose authors allow logged-out viewing (Bluesky) or search (Mastodon, indexable accounts), and we re-check Bluesky authors each time we show a page. Likes and follower counts never decide the order. For meaning matches, query text is turned into a fingerprint on Wildroot’s own server (EmbeddingGemma-300M); it is never sent to another service. Wildroot does not save query text to disk. Looking for posts like one you have? Similar posts. How to opt out.
