  2. Thread. It was just a matter of time before headlines misused the term "medieval". So I'm thankful more knowledgeable colleagues have addressed this issue to clarify that e.g. empathy is not a new invention, there were a variety of practices & not a general acceptance, etc. Here you go!

  3. I mean using the term Medieval is a bit silly, as it's being livestreamed and really one of the most famous executions, that of Charles 1st was well after the medieval period. I'm tired of the term being used in way that's not remotely close to medieval, the whole thing is just nasty and evil.

  4. Excellent thread. To add: by the 15th century if not before, the state execution of Jesus & the Christian martyrs was implicitly & sometimes explicitly juxtaposed with current judicial executions in church wall paintings. Lots of people doubted the virtue of the crown’s use of capital punishment.

Search looks through the last 36 hours of public posts for your words, "exact phrases", #hashtags, @handles and websites, and also finds posts about the same thing by meaning. New posts join about every 10 minutes. We only include posts whose authors allow logged-out viewing (Bluesky) or search (Mastodon, indexable accounts), and we re-check Bluesky authors each time we show a page. Likes and follower counts never decide the order. For meaning matches, query text is turned into a fingerprint on Wildroot’s own server (EmbeddingGemma-300M); it is never sent to another service. Wildroot does not save query text to disk. Looking for posts like one you have? Similar posts. How to opt out.
