Watched the New Zealand horror-comedy Housebound (2014, d. Gerard Johnstone) tonight, which was both funny and horrifying (I know, right?). After a botched ATM robbery, a young woman is sentenced to 8 months of house arrest at her mom's house, which happens to be haunted. The actual plot has lots of twists and turns; it's fair to say it's a bit convoluted, but it definitely hangs together to it's satisfying - and gross - conclusion. #Film #Movies #Cinemastodon #Horror #Comedy #New Zealand

Posting longform rants in my groupchat about how depressing S. Craig Zahler's obvious right-wing leanings are cause he's actually a very talented director in terms of just skill. He claims he is largely uninterested in politics, but he casts a lot of well known conservative actors (including Mel Gibson of all people!) and his former producer now works for The Daily Wire making super racist films that cast cancelled actors that can't get work otherwise, and there's just these conservative undercurrents to every film he's made. Like I'd be interested in reading his western or horror novels, but

Another day, another film about a middle-aged Brit going mad while doing their job in the 1970s. This time, it's Berberian Sound Studio (2012, d. Peter Strickland), where Toby Jones plays a meek English sound engineer who is strangely hired to work on an Italian giallo film. The BTS stuff is fascinating, and you never see more than the credits of the giallo film, but man, do you hear a lot of it (nice twist). Reaches for Lynchian vibes, partially succeeds. #Film #Movies #Cinemastodon #Horror

It's spooky season, so that means it's time for spooky movies. Seeing as the armadillo lizard was part of the inspiration behind Sappho's appearance, I really like the idea that she hugs her tail when scared. #gpose #gposers #AuRa

  5. The other day, my wife was doing something unrelated to the cat. Obviously, this offended the cat greatly as adult humans are required to give the cat treats when they are present in the kitchen. So he sit-stands behind her and yells. Then, receiving no response, apparently decides that being outside of her field of vision might be the issue, he comes around to sit-stand beside her and yells again. It was about then that I picked him up, snuggled him, and paid him his snacks—on top of some uneaten snacks already in his food dish. #CatsOfMastodon

Search looks through the last 48 hours of public posts for your words, "exact phrases", #hashtags, @handles and websites, and also finds posts about the same thing by meaning. New posts join about every 10 minutes. We only include posts whose authors allow logged-out viewing (Bluesky) or search (Mastodon, indexable accounts), and we re-check Bluesky authors each time we show a page. Likes and follower counts never decide the order. Meaning search uses a model on Wildroot’s server. Query text may be sent through OpenRouter to an embedding provider if that model is unavailable or for a quality-check sample. Wildroot does not save query text to disk.
