Linux is also good if you want to get a cheap low-end PC - obviously its a different story if you need something beefier for video software, but it can give new life to otherwise shitty hardware and computers

System76 has released COSMIC Desktop 1.10. COSMIC Store can now display multiple screenshots per app; image caching and separate processing for large screenshots are intended to keep the store responsive. The launcher now uses graphics-accelerated rendering by default, following complaints about delays when searching and scrolling through results. Settings add initial support for drawing tablets, including mapping a pen to a spe… en.hacks.gr/i-system76-kyklofo… #System76 #COSMIC #COSMICStore #Linux

someday people will understand that 99% of the issue is that in the majority of cases using linux, you can't just go to a website, click the download button, double click on the program you downloaded, and it's done like have you tried pirating a game on linux? worse even, *modding* one?

I've been daily driving Ubuntu on my laptop for 2 years and I think people don't realize how far Linux has come. It is incredibly easy to use for 95% of cases, and anyone who is like 5% nerdy can figure the rest out with a bit of work

The fact that Windows needs to be defanged is speaking for itself. I've been daily driving Linux for 3 years now. I do my work, my 3D art and play all my games through it. The only time I use Windows is for Unity, but that's only on a rare chance I need to create a package for a game or mod.

wine isn’t a Linux distro - pretty much every distro should be able to work with wine! (I am not a Linux expert though I could be wrong) I use CachyOS and this worked like a dream

All arguments in favor of Windows over Linux are one of these: 1. Still need Photoshop or whatever (the valid one) 2. Based on decade-old info and/or jokes 3. Blaming issues with Linux on Linux users while treating the same issues on Windows as an unpleasant inevitability, like wasps or earthquakes

Trying Linux Fedora XFCE now... As the rolling updates on CachyOS scare the buhgeezus out of me and the install is now work essential

I'm at the point of running out of sympathy for people who know Windows is shit, constantly crashes out about Windows being shit but refuses to at least try Linux. Linux is literally easier to download than Windows 11, not rocket science to flash a USB and at least try Mint or something

If I got a cent every time Linux Mint 22.3 froze on one of my PCs I'd have enough money to build a new PC for Linux Mint 22.3 to freeze on

One of the things that made me feel worth it to use Linux is that when my dad was still on windows, I was tech support for him several times a week. I chucked Kubuntu on, had to be tech support for a little bit at first, and then proceeded to forget he even had a computer until the PC broke LOL

What's my best option for a non-android linux (or BSD?) phone these days? a. Do NOT need a recent or "high-end" phone. Looking for something in the $100 used range. Early 4g era is FINE. b. MUST be able to easily replace desktop with a simple X11 window manager. c. Don't want to go through heroic shit to get the OS installed. (For reference: current phone is a Sonim XP8800. Favorite phone ever: Moto Droid 4.) #Linux #Android
Search looks through the last 36 hours of public posts for your words, "exact phrases", #hashtags, @handles and websites, and also finds posts about the same thing by meaning. New posts join about every 10 minutes. We only include posts whose authors allow logged-out viewing (Bluesky) or search (Mastodon, indexable accounts), and we re-check Bluesky authors each time we show a page. Likes and follower counts never decide the order. For meaning matches, query text is turned into a fingerprint on Wildroot’s own server (EmbeddingGemma-300M); it is never sent to another service. Wildroot does not save query text to disk. Looking for posts like one you have? Similar posts. How to opt out.
