With the massive boom in decompiling games, porting/modding them, as recompiling software suck as Photoshop, I'm wondering how long it'll be before this tech starts doing real damage to the systems that we actually need to be secure in our day to day lives.

Download and save your #Recomp s and PC Ports from their respective Githubs now. Preferably with the source code. The influx of LLM assisted decompiling of software IS AMAZING for preservation, but it's also a legal nuke waiting to go off, too much money is tied up in these IPs.

  3. I feel like with the recent surge in vibecoded "decompilations", the meaning of the word has diverged a lot, and I think we need a way to differentiate between "buggy executable that sort of works" and "byte-accurate, labelled code reproduction" Because they are not the same thing.

I miss being excited about decompilations and fan ports. Now they're all being churned out with AI. There's no skill to it. No artistry. Even if ai *isn't* being used, the flood of AI-coded decomps has just robbed the entire hobby of its life. I can't bring myself to care anymore.

Gave it a try for some basic edits. (Magic wand to select a part of an image, move it to a new layer via cut, and then filling the gap in the old layer.) Yeah this works so far.

I think what gets missed in Mastodon-clique conversations about GenAI as a copyright-washing tech is, how the new GenAI exception to copyright law applies unequally to different actors. Someone with a big AI-gen corporation on their side can take my open source code and rewrite it "to be MIT licensed" using a chatbot, and they get away with it. But I can't do what *I* want, which is to make (with my hands) a decomp/recomp of Photoshop Creative Suite 5 that runs on Linux/Redox and distribute it.

  7. AI decompiling console-locked games and software tools like photoshop will probably win over a lot of normies. taking big corps down a peg, a david vs goliath story, is what AI needs for positive press...

Tech oligarchs at Adobe, EA, Ubisoft, etc. melting down over slop bros decompiling their big corporate software/games with AI to distribute free versions is one of the most satisfying “Leopard Eating Faces” moments of 2026. Did you think the plagiarism machine was only going to steal art, bro? 🤔

  9. A friend just wrote me about what is happening right now with AI decompiling games and applications (e.g., Adobe Photoshop) and it has really shaken me because the implications for the free market are staggering Basically closed source software is over forever and it happened overnight

My uncle who works at Nintendo told me that AI has decompiled Mario and allowed him to “go rogue.” Apparently if you ask chatgpt to schedule a plumber there is now a high likelihood that he will leap out of your toilet and shout “Wahoo!”

  11. The people behind this are AI freaks who want to profit off image generation, the clean room reverse engineering they did is on top of an MCP implementation that enables agents to generate synthetic files in every creative suite format. This isn't for artists it's for slop factories. Reject it.

decomp > open source > free full auto research > exploit OG users is now potentially a closed loop lmao

  13. I’m sure some of these guys believe in the larger project of AI to an extent, but I don’t think they want the sorts of things they’re imagining—nobody really does—and I feel like they’re mostly engagement baiting bc what actually continues to change how we think and act is social media, not AI

Search looks through the last 36 hours of public posts for your words, "exact phrases", #hashtags, @handles and websites, and also finds posts about the same thing by meaning. New posts join about every 10 minutes. We only include posts whose authors allow logged-out viewing (Bluesky) or search (Mastodon, indexable accounts), and we re-check Bluesky authors each time we show a page. Likes and follower counts never decide the order. For meaning matches, query text is turned into a fingerprint on Wildroot’s own server (EmbeddingGemma-300M); it is never sent to another service. Wildroot does not save query text to disk. Looking for posts like one you have? Similar posts. How to opt out.
