Well said, @emilymbender. For years I’ve been giving a lecture on ethics in AI and our relationships with machines. Your point about projecting interpretations is so spot on it had me raising my fist when I read it. 😂 In discussions after my talks, people have often asked about empathy/emotions in machines. I always note that we’re looking at it the wrong way. There can be a genuine exchange of emotion, but it’s in how we view the exchange, not how the machine views it. I think that’s where folks generally confuse their own emotions with what they perceive are emotions emanating from softwa

If AI was actually an artificial intelligence, then I'd feel more sympathy to the code. But what we refer to as AI isn't actually intelligence, it's a LLM (large language model). It's just an amped up predictive texting algorithm. It doesn't experience emotions or feelings. Boo hoo.
