Remember the Fujifilm X-half? Pretty little portrait aspect ratio thing with film simulation modes, no ibis, some bonkers interface decisions, no raw, but a preposterous price point? Amazingly they kept updating the firmware, & you can get one new for at ½ the launch price. Suddenly v compelling.

Are we quite sure this summer happened? And we‘re not a part of a Reddit fan fiction or another simulation? Because the fact that Rick Devens (yes that Rick Devens), won a season of Big Brother and Dee (yes that Dee), came in fourth, seems utterly absurd. #BB28

As the UK tries to rush headlong into massive AI Data Centres, there are many cautionary tales about AI. This one comes from Anthropic and refers to their own AI chatbot, Claude. Fortunately, this was a simulation but Claude didn't 'know' that. What a great world AI could give us! 😳

Whenever I see Pro A.I people claim that it's a powerful creative tool and the future of human knowledge All I see is Cypher from The Matrix explaining that he knows the steak he is eating is fake, just code causing signals in his brain but he's tired and just wants the simulation

I wrote about the Pelkey avatar being used in court as part of a larger discussion of grief, storytelling, family, ethics, and technology in "Your Settings Are Saved" (2025). jgcarpenter.com/blog.html?bl...

  6. GDC 2019: "Back to the Future! Working with Deterministic Simulation in 'For Honor'" by Jennifer Henry of Ubisoft Montreal gdcvault.com/play/1026077/Back… The main point of this presentation seemed to be "we made a networked game that's deterministic, and let me tell you why that was really difficult to do." Their approach is they elect one of the players as the one that performs state validation, and then every 100 ms, all the peers send a report to it about everything that has been finalized. 1/5

  7. 2/3 🔬 The research options: what can you actually test? The Simulator has three modes: the SU(N) builder model, a top-KK Higgs-production benchmark and the 4D neutrino ring. 🧬 Neutrinos: inspect heavy pairs, flavour weights, vacuum oscillations, weak and Majoron decay channels, lifetimes and coherence. The fixed-light-input experiment reconstructs nine parameter paths while keeping the supplied light masses and PMNS orientation fixed. Five linked figures show which heavy-sector and current responses can still change. 📊 Data comparisons: published CMS heavy-neutral-lepton curves, the archive

  9. The story of the birth of chaos theory is wonderful to me not just because of the math, science, and technology, but also because those involved were genuinely awesome people. RIP Margaret Hamilton.

Search looks through the last 36 hours of public posts for your words, "exact phrases", #hashtags, @handles and websites, and also finds posts about the same thing by meaning. New posts join about every 10 minutes. We only include posts whose authors allow logged-out viewing (Bluesky) or search (Mastodon, indexable accounts), and we re-check Bluesky authors each time we show a page. Likes and follower counts never decide the order. For meaning matches, query text is turned into a fingerprint on Wildroot’s own server (EmbeddingGemma-300M); it is never sent to another service. Wildroot does not save query text to disk. Looking for posts like one you have? Similar posts. How to opt out.
