#Scraping websites and #bot-protection While searching for my ancestors, I had to access data from many different websites. I noticed there were different levels of protection against automated access depending on the site. In this post, I’ll list them and mention countermeasures you can take to bypass them anyway. blog.frankel.ch/bypass-bot-pro…

DOS Friends! A new mTCP is available! This version is mostly a maintenance release, except for NetDrive which has some major improvements. (It is faster, especially on remote links.) Downloads and release notes are at www.brutman.com/mTCP/mTCP.html. #retrocomputing

I'm pretty sure immediately solved the tech issue :v Somehow it was my noise gate that was causing the issue, and it turns out it was solved with ye olde, "turn it off and on again"

I want more computer but I want to see less computer. I want my fridge to be smart but I don't want it to show me ads. I want my robot to clean my floor but I don't want it to connect to us-east-1. I don't want pop-ups on my phone. I don't want to "see what's new". I want my tools to do their jobs.

Search looks through the last 36 hours of public posts for your words, "exact phrases", #hashtags, @handles and websites, and also finds posts about the same thing by meaning. New posts join about every 10 minutes. We only include posts whose authors allow logged-out viewing (Bluesky) or search (Mastodon, indexable accounts), and we re-check Bluesky authors each time we show a page. Likes and follower counts never decide the order. For meaning matches, query text is turned into a fingerprint on Wildroot’s own server (EmbeddingGemma-300M); it is never sent to another service. Wildroot does not save query text to disk. Looking for posts like one you have? Similar posts. How to opt out.
