New blog post: Some quick thoughts on Unit Testing ActivityPub https://shkspr.mobi/blog/2026/10/some-thoughts-on-unit-testing-activitypub/ I'll be radically honest here - I never really got the idea of "Test Driven Development". I'm much more of a "telnet into production and damn the …

This week has been all about moving the full development workflow to public GitHub. The first tasks was speeding up tests on GitHub CI, and we just got a full run down from 43min to 5min, with the tests only taking 4min !! 🏎️ 🏁 Lots of this is compiler work, so regular programs compile faster too!

First it was link posts and now this: Meta has quietly previewed terms of use for business users that take effect on Oct. 30. They authorize Meta to scrape your web pages (and other content) for product development and training. #steampunk #meta #facebook steampunk-explorer.com/news/steampu...

  6. For a long time I've been very selective about what tech I use, based on strict ethical principles (scroll down here); disintermedia.net.nz/about/ I want to use, promote, and support the development of tech that meets as many of these principles as possible. A few years ago I came across a blog piece using the tongue-in-cheek term 'tech vegan' to describe this; nolanlawson.com/2019/05/31/tec… But a better term might be 'tech Amish', or even 'neo-luddite'. 7. There's been a bunch of discussion here recently about building a federated replacement for the recruitment and jobhunting aspects of LockedIn. There have been a couple of attempts to build something like this, and today I stumbled on another one. Development started at the end of 2020 and stalled a few months later, although the repo was only official archived and the homepage taken down in 2023; github.com/Flockingbird ( 1/2) #FlockingBird #LinkedIn #ProfessionalNetworking #FediDevs

Is this the end of Deno as an alternative to node.js? "We will support the Deno runtime for another year with monthly releases containing bug fixes and security updates. After that year we will end our development of the Deno runtime. Deno will remain open source, and we welcome others who want to continue its development." I thought this tweet was fear-mongering until I read the post. > We will support the Deno runtime for another year with monthly releases containing bug fixes and security updates. After that year we will end our development of the Deno runtime. Deno will remain open source, and we welcome others who want to continue its development. So, after a year, no more Deno development from the people with core knowledge of it. Similar to the situation where the devs behind the Gel database decided to stop working on it when they all went to Vercel. I seem to have a fantastic track record with choosin

Seriously tho it's hard to overstate how impactful Deno was: The first major competitor to Node. 4 years before Bun I'd confidently argue the @deno.land team played a history-changing role shaping + inspiring what modern development looks like in 2026 I think that's something to be applauded 👏

Search looks through the last 36 hours of public posts for your words, "exact phrases", #hashtags, @handles and websites, and also finds posts about the same thing by meaning. New posts join about every 10 minutes. We only include posts whose authors allow logged-out viewing (Bluesky) or search (Mastodon, indexable accounts), and we re-check Bluesky authors each time we show a page. Likes and follower counts never decide the order. For meaning matches, query text is turned into a fingerprint on Wildroot’s own server (EmbeddingGemma-300M); it is never sent to another service. Wildroot does not save query text to disk. Looking for posts like one you have? Similar posts. How to opt out.
