Merseyrail into Liverpool, then the new Mersey Ferry, Royal Daffodil, across the river. From there, it was onto a TransPennine Express train to Manchester.

Once in the city, I jumped on a couple of the electric buses for a ride around the city centre. Then it was time for a tram before heading back to Liverpool, again with TPE.

Trains, ferry, buses and a tram. Hard to beat.

I just saw "aussichtspunkt" on a map and i thought, "what the hell is that?"

But then I remembered aus means out, like in auslander (out-lander, or foreigner) and punkt means point, like in Blaupunkt (or punctual in English. Think "on the dot" for being on time).

I was left with sichts, and that one and the English equivalent, sight, haven't drifted that far from each other.

So, aussichtspunkt is out-sight-point? Oh, it's a viewpoint or lookout spot. This relief includes a striking image of one reaching their hand through a theatrical mask, which is other contexts has been interpreted as a young satyr playing at the role of Silenus (the old satyr).

Whether playfulness or naughtiness was the desired idea, a sarcophagus like this makes our hearts ache for the parents who buried their child far too young.

This one survived a British raid on the harbor in 1778, when the fort was captured. It is now referred to as the "John Paul Jones cannon."

When men believe that other men generally accept sexual violence or believe myths about rape, it inhibits their own willingness to intervene.

Many things now very generally recognized as problematic, abusive, or monstrous were once regarded as perfectly normal.

It’s the Rolls-Royce of lathes. There literally is nothing in that size class that can be compared.

If you needed one machine tool to rebuild civilization, you would want a 10EE.

It was first launched in 1938, and it has been continually refined since.

Properly maintained, you’re talking total indicated runout (TIR) well under 5μm or 5,000nm.

And then you just look at it, and you fall in love.

And I guarantee you.

And I guarantee you.
